In their annual awards, announced yesterday, the Irish Comic News web-site (the Irish equivalent of DowntheTubes), named Sector 13 as best Anthology comic of 2019. This is pretty special for a 2000 AD fanzine as zines like ours don't often get a look in. Comics featuring fan-tributes to their favourite comic creations are not normally fare for awards.

I like to think that our decision at the start of last year not to use Dredd, or Johnny Alpha or other top-line characters (except in very exceptional circumstances) had something to do with this. Sector 13 uses the worlds of 2000AD but with our own characters. We have the Judges of Sector 13, based arround our cosplayer. We have specialist Judges, Whatley and West who deal with very particular threats to mega-city one and we have introduced SD Agents, Billy Camo and Hurt Box, written by W D McQuaid and drawn by Paddy Brown.

Add to that stories inspired by Misty and a fantasy story by Will Simpson and you can see that we are trying something different. The nomination was an honor but to win is a real thrill. You can see details of all the winners, including Michael Carroll and the 2000 AD dominated, Enniskillen Comicsfest. great company to be in.
https://irishcomicnews.dreamhosters.com/2020/02/29/irish-comic-news-awards-winners-2019/ We have taken a wee rest in the early months of 2020, but we're just getting back to things now. I'm reading scripts and ZenArcade is champing at the bit to get back to the Sector 13 photostories.
