From an article in the Guardian yesterday:

"Skyhouses of up to 50 floors containing 500 flats were put forward as the answer to the south-east's housing crisis....at 200 meters high, the blocks would provide facilities for an entire community including gardens with trees and a roof-top swimmign pool with a stupendous view....communual areas in each block would provide gardens, health clubs, spas and creches."

But the really important question is, will they be named after B-list celebrities of the past, the more obsure the better?

Smiley

Nah, they'll all be named after Nelson Mandela.

I'd like Gotham City / Will Eisner type buildings, in the shapes of typewriters, umbrellas, and stuff. Architecture that spells out big blocky noir titles, washing lines hanging between the words and all that.

Well we've already got the martial law, so they'd better hurry up and start building.

Apparently this is a 'discreet' presence (presumably an overt presence would involve giant robots and the odd star destroyer)...http://news.bbc.co.uk/media/images/38804000/jpg/_38804603_terror300.jpg">

Now, I'm a big fan of tanks, but can someone please tell me what the hell kind of threat to Heathrow they are expecting that would require one to counter it?http://www.arthurwyatt.co.uk/images/photos/s_bov05.jpg">

Seen Panic Room? The title sequence does some lovely stuff in that style.

Oh, and Edinburgh has a buildeing apparently designed to look like a filing cabinet.

Isn't it more a kind of "scaring away the bad guys" tactic, with a very visible show of strength and heightened security?

Or maybe they've found out The Hulk's joined Al'Quaida and is gonna get all jihad on us.

Yes indeed, this building has a giant filing cabinet drawer pulled out of the side of the new Museum, apparently there are problem with H&S rules on closing it, it's a tripping hazzard man.

Tanks at Heathrow? if a infedel shows up the tanks will start shoting the f*ck out of everything and careering around causing mayhem, it will be just like kiev, but without the chickens...

There's also a building in Coventry that's designed to look like an elephant.

Thought it was a suspected surface to air missile, presume the tanks are to take on anyone with a launcher. Although stugg having those piddly litte recon tanks send in the challengers 8-)

Am I alone in thinking "Heeeeey..... just when the Government needed some public support for their yee-haw warmongering, along comes a convenient and very visible terrorist threat reminding us all of what a great job the boys in camo do, by jingo."

Surely the government wouldn't be so shite as to spend all that money on tanks, guns, film-crews etc *just* to drum up a bit of public support.  Surely.  *Surely*?

Mk13

Challenger tanks, feh! What you really need is one of these...http://www.kelwick.karoo.net/Images/Classic%20Pics/Die%20Hard%2003.jpg">
