General / Re: this weeks dredd 1790, wrong episode?

That final episode did have a big picture of Dredd slouched over bemoaning his city was dead, which kind of fits that description. True, there were other panels on the page, but that's one of the many great things about Wagner; value for money!

Neither of these stories are about two kids who find a spaceship :(

This week saw Dredd protect one of the safe blocks that we have seen established during DoC. There are hints of the hell outside, in both the fact that they need defending and the suggestion of what is going on out there.

The thing about safe blocks is that they must, by definition, be safe. Otherwise the judges wouldn't call them safe blocks. As such, and given that the day in question has passed, the safe areas are the quieter parts of the city. Future episodes might well reach out from these to see the wider mess, but this episode set in a comparatively secure place establishes that something has been saved, and now we can go from there.

Add to that the sort of intelligent social commentary we have come to expect from Al Ewing, and the fact that I was laughing from beginning to end, and we have a winning story.

Edited to add: On the subject of Block War, I think there is the idea that this can be something that happens within a block as well as between blocks, or is that just a movie thing that has wormed its way into my subconscious?

There was a time when it was hinted that Eagle Victor had two heads. Sadly this never came to pass :(

On a more serious note, I would like to take this opportunity to salute your dedication to the story. I've grown up with Dante over the past 14 years, and it has been a fantastic ride.

My friend has just reminded me of a gift I once made her:

I suspect Dredd is on his way to slap a parking ticket on that Lawmaster. Complete right-angle to the road markings.

Love it as a work of art though.

But why did there have to be *thirteen*  treasures?

I haven't read the story, but my guess it is something to do with these: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treasures_of_Britain

(if I had one quibble it'd be that they're occasionally a bit too big).

We can put that down to time waste mucking with distance and perspective. They aren't too big, they're just closer than they should have been able to get in the available time.

What about that kid of ambiguous gender from that stand alone episode of Tsar Wars? The one who ends the prog shooting that poster of Dante. I'm guessing there isn't enough time to make anything of them, unless they just jump out of the crowd with a gun during the post war celebrations and assassinate him.

Currently listening to the relentless description of brilliant sunshine and thinking thoughts of seething jealousy.

I left my prog at work today rather than soak it on the way home.

There is the pesky matter of the White Army, which looms constantly in the background, and it is difficult to see how that thread can be permanently defeated.

Part of me feels like they should just leave it, say that the blow struck to their kind in Amerika was enough to put off the invasion for Dante's lifetime at least. Some sort of life sacrificing thingy to seal off the dimensions forever could be doable, but Dante has never really been a story about that sort of wibbly wobbly timey whimey ness.

We still have the matter of all those documents concerning the death of Jena's mother. My money is still on Jocasta being responsible. The resolution of the Vladimir plot is certainly one to look forward to, as Dante has always been more about these character arcs than it has been about inter-dimensional warfare.

Either way, I am sure the ending will not disappoint.

An American release of an anthology of coloured up  re-prints? Dark Judges, ABCs, and others to be teased/announced?

Not quite
sure where the damning footage comes from - didn't Obama nix the Death Panel idea in the end?
Did Vass do some insane sort of pre-visualisation thing for his pitch?

I believe he did. I also was a little confused about this, but, upon returning to page two of Dredd, I believe the diagram in panel four is part of a super-future power-point presentation that then spans the next five panels. That is why the Chief J is seemingly looking up at the sky in the next panel after that, he's looking at this video presentation.

A little confusing, as far as story telling goes, but what the hell; slightly rushed art from Flint is still brilliant stuff. I'm loving this story.

And yet it is here on the news thread, on the official Rebellion/2000ad site.

because the thread was posted by a member who saw it on CBM.

Ah, so it was. The confusion clears.

Though not the confusion about what this is actually about. Curse you Molch-R for making us this way!

I seem to recall the IDW news broke elsewhere first as well; the internet is hardly an easy thing to co-ordinate, especially across time zones, so I don't see a less-than-a-day time delay as any sign that Tharg's droids are neglecting this site as an official platform for news.

because IDW announced it at one of the cons and it was more or less simultaneously announced by the PR staff -Molcher- on this board so there's no neglect. The Rebellion announcement is different as it seems aimed at the US and may not be directly releated to 2000AD.

Indeed, I was also saying there was no neglect. The fact that the "new" button takes you straight to a most recent post of any thread means that I had forgotten that this thread was not started by Molch-R. I had first seen this news on Twitter, and so my memory tricked me into assuming this was an "official" thread.
