News / Re: New trades listed

Just recieved the new case files and Dante this week.

My god both are STUNNING collections. Dante is huge with 3 talents at the top of their game from start to finish. Bit strange to see the same sketch pages repeated from previous volumes but thats by the by. Simply a must buy and compelled me to get Hell & High Water and Sword of the Tsar to make up the gap in my collection. Peerless work fellas.

And Casefiles 12 -  THIS is the business. Its so good it makes me cry that all the volumes haven't been including colour to date (serious do a limited web-only run of them - I'd pay up to 40 quid to have casefiles 11 produced like this). Only read Hitman so far but its the doozy I remember. Definately buying another copy as a gift to a lapsed reader to tempt em back.. this stuff is like unlce umps finest. At first you think 'oh thats quite thin' by the time you've read the first epsoide of Hitman and stroked the pages, marvelled at the reproduction..... you're hooked.

God life is good. Hurrah to the book driods - you've done sterling work. This whole post is just to say thank you.

BOLLAND?

You mean the chancer responsible for one of the worst covers ever to grace 2000AD?!

Pah!

Gibson is very under-rated (even vilified) thesedays but for me he'd never be out of an all-tiime top 5 - his backgrounds and vehicle designs for MC1 were stunning - I long for everyone to draw futuristic transport like him rather than 'oh its a 2008 van' that so many seem to (HELLO PAUL MARSHALL)- he's been there since the start - Robot Wars' shot of the Oil Depot is seminal MC1 and worked on Dredd, Halo Jones & Robo-Hunter.I reckon he'd do a mighty Dante too. Plus he's not that long departed...

COME BACK GIBCAT!

'walking soup cans' - dredd's endearing term for robots during Robot Wars.

Harlem Heroes, Blackhawk, Dan Dare, Mean Team, future shocks galore, Flesh.... ACE TRUCKING.

Would we have Flints bonzoid alien fest of Shakara without Belardinelli?

Quote from: "W. R. Logan"It has all the elements, its a Cursed Earth Megazine story that surely ticks all the boxes then why is it so bloody awful?

For a start, Tony Lee doesn't really seem to have any sort of handle on the Dreddworld (sorry Tony) and the art doesn't help in this respect. A good case in point is the 'I look like a hooker' line. They wouldn't say 'I look like a hooker', they'd say 'I look like a slabwalker.' The Judge is far too young to be on her Long Walk, I suspect because the artist preffered to draw another 'sexy chick' character rather than stick to the established rules of the 'verse, and again she speaks nothing like a Judge.

This isn't pedantry for pedantry's sake - the cast, with all their jokey current-day slang, fail at every turn to seem part of the Dreddverse in any way; they just come across as random joes in a random desert. Yes, it has dinos and giant spiders but it could be past, present, future, Cursed Earth, Nu-Earth, Ararrat, Mars, and it wouldn't really make any difference.

And while it is fun, there are some really dark elements mixed in (no bad thing in themselves) like the constant rape attempts, which jar horribly with the comedy, cartoon violence.

That pretty much on the mark - the hooker line was awful, the rape references alongside 'toony' style art is shockingly glib and the whole thing started as poor and went downhill fast. YES dinosaurs are great.. but that dosn't excuse this tripe.

I also think none of the characters have any depth or personality or even distinguishing characteristics... they look alike, speak alike, their lines are interchangable... much like a certain concentration camp story.

See.
Mm, but as I've said on this board a couple of times now, that release has been cancelled. Instead, Necropolis will be in the last of 2009's Dredd CF books, and Dead Man will be issued the same month.

the LAST?

say it ain't so bub.

like BSG they should chalk it up at the start of every script.

Or maybe at the end after dredd has shot another half-dozen.

Defoe is classic 2000A - great individualistic art style, mass violence, silly supporting characters, bonkers dialogue, bounding along at 1000mph. If it said 'Script: Robbie Morrison' you'd have it pinned as Dante1799 (minus the sex granted).

Appreciation of any one strip must come from your like / dislike of both the writer and the artist - block 'hating' of an author who NOBODY can deny has written some fantastic work is simply 'odd'. I can think of Mills things I've not been hugely taken with recently and stuff I've thought was THRILLPOWER personified... but the same with Morrison, Abnett, Ewing, Grant and yes.. even Wagner (been while mind). I've not liked the work of Lee so far but am more than willing to give his forthcoming strips a go.

Are you sure its Spainsh? - Basta definately means 'enough' in Italian. Repeating it 3 times is their version of 'calm down'.
