Other Reviews / Re: Sandman TV Series
« on: 07 August, 2022, 04:19:32 PM »
As a counter point to this, let me just say, I thought it was great. (I’ve watched all of it). Casting decisions all seem. spot-on. I like the dip in to the wider scale of the comics in the first season that will probably play out over a few seasons (or, I dunno… season 7 if it gets that far).

I’ve read the entire run of sandman, though I came to it quite late (read a chunk of it about 15 years ago, but then last year read the entire run via library digital downloads) and overall I prefer the tv series.

Owing to a piece of idiocy on my part the comic WASNT free and pay what you like, it was $2+ I have no made it free (or pay what you like) so if you just fancied downloading it. Please do so (and if you can, I’d be grateful if you leave a star review!)

DOWNTIME??? THIS IS DOWNTIME! (joking aside, this IS me relaxing- I've really enjoyed doing these, even as it's taken a week of them for me to find my voice and figure out what tools give the best results, next time I bring a ruler with me though... drawing straight edges with an ipad Pro 12.9" as a ruler is no fun... in fact, I'm gonna miss it when I'm not doing these any more...)

Anyway the final hurrah! A 2 pager that, if there was any justice, would see me win either an eisner or an eagle award (or both) but equally could see me drummed out of all comic book circles for life!

As ever, there's an accompanying blog post: https://www.pauljholden.com/2022/07/15/holiday-comics-day-7/

No-one talking about/watching this?

It's pretty great, sort of high end spy fiction with a ground hog day like conceit but also quite funny and a protagonist who is very likeable even as ... well, you'd have to watch.

it lays out its single sci-fi conceit pretty quickly then explores all the ramifications of it - essentially they can reset time back to the same fixed time point in the year, and the team can remember everything that's happened even as everyone else forgets (some because it's an ability they're born with, others have had a serum)- but, of course, rebooting the planet is very very costly and so, it's a trick they only pull when there's an 'extinction level event'.

I think if you liked Ultraviolet or Slow Horses you might enjoy this.
