Dear Hexen,

yes, Dirty Harry is the film I thought of first. But the story of Dredd I was reminded was not the Hunter Club but a story in Judge Dredd Annual of 1982 or 1983 when a sniper makes a target of innocent civilians on a busy street. The difference  is that he is live on a vid-phone show and the victims were driving not pedestrians, but the same sentiment of random killing. Very fine Esquerra artwork.

Dear Jayzuz,

the small proportion of material in 2000AD that is unsuitable for children is usually unnecessary. Most stories would be not suffer by cutting it. 'F*ck' and 'sh*t' can always be replaced by 'drokk' or similar.
Female nudity is rarely essential to story and usually only present to titillate or to expose artist has never seen a real woman naked outside Playboy magazine.
Violence - brains or intestines flying out of exit wounds is very boring. A cheap and easy way to express action.
With a little care 2000ad strips could appeal to adults _and_ children without being childish. More adult content will only restrict the circulation more. Also if you exclude kids now, the future readership will be absent.

Off Topic / Poetic justice
30 June, 2002, 11:03:44 PM
Dear message board friends,

Compared to the sustained, continuous narrative of film, comics is a sequence of discrete moments. I think for a comic to be succesful great care must be taken over each moment, each panel, just as each line in a poem is struggled for and carefully considered. Therefore, I think comics is poetry to film's prose.

So this made me think, what poets do other comic readers like?

I give three:

- Omar Khayyam
- Edmond Rostand (French author of Cyrano de Bergerac)
- Shane MacGowan

Dear SiG,

Fort and Fred The Clown are both very good, Fort is not as good written as some, but the amazing art compensates.

Except these two, and ABC comics, I buy little in addition to 2000AD and the Megazine.

For Corben, I would like to see him draw Dredd.

Dear Trout,

Judge Fish might be a better idea. I don't mind if you choose Smiley's suggestion!

Dear Oddboy,

For Future Shocks, I bet new scriptdroids cost less than the rights to King short stories. Also Adabting Stephen King won't get new writing blood into 2000AD.

Having said that, anything replacing Telguuth is a good idea.

Except perhaps scojo's screenplays.

Dear UKDane,

Glad you got it OK. When I asked for postage I thought it would be very expensive. For 94p, I meant to say don't worry about it.
