A great loss.  I'm not one to get overly emotional about the passing of folks I don't actually know....but on this occasion....it does rather feel like the loss of an old friend.

This is a sad day. Mr Nimoy's influence has been, I think, incalculable. In his most famous role, how many of our greatest minds did he turn to science? There will be many, I think, waiting to pipe him aboard that great starship in the sky with full honours.

For me, I do feel like I've lost an old neighbour and mentor. One of the last generation of truly inspiring figures.
