It truly is and more to come 👍🏻

I did my 1st Lawless in 2019 and loved it and booked to go the following year and was gutted when the shit hit the fan.
So the wife and I have booked the Hotel for next year 🤞🏻 it goes ahead. Just got to save the pennies now.

Cracking line up.

I'll be there.

In news likely to cause dozens of cancellations, I'll be there as part of the Rok of the Reds posse, originally planned for the 2020 Lawless, deferred to this year, and now (fingers crossed!) actually happening in 2022.

I think Abby's coming as well. Not sure about Jim (Boswell) but there's a decent chance you can get a full house of signatures on your Rok TPBs, devaluing them significantly. :-)

Look forward to that I'll be in the queue for those hallowed scrawls 😁- any hint of a 3rd volume announcement around that time?

Quoth The Wag: "Only if there's a chance I won't lose money on it."

Don't get me wrong — we'd all love to, but Vol2 launched smack into the start of the pandemic and the complete lack of cons as a sales channel hasn't done the prospects of a third book any favours. :-(

That's a real shame. Is there any prospect of a publisher picking it up and rereleasing it?

Not sure, TBH. I think the rights to the first volume are tangled up with BHP, but I couldn't swear to that.

Frankly, I think 2000AD might have picked it up if the Regened project had been in full swing when John originally pitched it to them, but Regened wasn't yet so much as a gleam in the Mighty One's eye when he passed on it. Not blessed with fortuitous timing, this book. :-(

I did toy with the idea of asking Rob if he could script in match against the Radford Reds, with Melchester only beating them because star striker Kyle Dixon was on international duties for Scotland. :-)

Perhaps a tv in the background showing Dixon knocking in a last gasp winner against the Faroe Islands?

Me: After nearly two years of no gigs, I have tickets for a weekend festival in May with loads of cool bands!
Also me: Lawless is on this year and I'm totally going!
My wife: Not to both on the same weekend you're not.

DROKKING HELL.

I attended Lawless a couple of years ago...*and booked ticket for the following year , which was cancelled for obvious reasons. Recently booked again, weekend tickets. Looking forward to it!

*I worked on a costume too.. then kind of chickened out of wearing it. In my defence the shoulder pads wouldn't bend around properly. Thinking of reworking it for this year... but we'll see.

Have you seen the prices that the Hilton are charging for rooms this year?  :o

Maybe it's because I left it a bit late, but they want almost £500 for 2 nights! The Ibis and Travelodge are offering doubles at about half that rate.

Wow! I was early (well the wife was) but they weren't that much. Seemingly there's a music festival in the area that weekend so probably put up all rooms

It was far cheaper in previous years, but if there's a lot on best get something booked before the others go up too!

Bizarrely, Hilton prices have now dropped quite a bit - over £150 cheaper than last time I checked- still not cheap, but I'm going to splash out and treat myself. It's always nice to be able to just roll out of the bar into the lift!

Of course — it's always a pleasant surprise when anyone wants me to sign anything! If, for some reason, I'm away from the table when you roll up but you spot me elsewhere, it's fine to ask then, as well.

(Side note: folks looking for a full set of Rok sigs might have to wait until Thought Bubble to snag Abby Bulmer... last I heard she'd managed to double-book herself for the Lawless weekend and can't make it.)

By contrast, I'm practically beardless these days, my beard having gone entirely white whilst my hair, a few grey strands not withstanding, remains more or less the same dark brown that it's always been. Since the beard now looks daft and I really can't be arsed to dye it, I maintain it in a very short stubbly form (because I also can't be arsed to shave).

That is nice. My hotel is a bit over a mile away but that's better than the one I booked last time which turned out to be four miles from the convention! ( I don't think I quite realised until I got there, although it was just a single somewhat lengthy bus ride,.) A mile is no big deal as I walk it to the main shops regularly anyway.

I'm on the train now on my way. There was a worrying moment when I realised late on Wednesday that I'd booked my outgoing train ticket for Saturday instead of Friday. I sorted a replacement but GWR would only post a physical replacement ticket (original tickets are e-tickets) which didn't arrive until this morning! Intercepted the postman on the way to the station.

About thirty minutes out from Bristol. This is the first significant, multi-leg train journey I've attempted since the before times, and it's all gone remarkably smoothly. So far...
Title: Re: Lawless 2022
Post by: Mardroid on 27 May, 2022, 01:53:47 PM
Aside from initial ticket hiccup, which was totally my fault, my journey had been pretty smooth too, so far.

Anyone wishing to place me at event I'll probably be wearing black clothes* and a black trilby, unless it's rather hot, in which case I'll be wearing a dodgy balding hair-do-, which is part of the reason for the hat. (But I try not to get too precious about it.) Between beer slurps, I'll likely be wearing a face mask to complete the gangster look. Or keep people, and myself, safe from COVID. One of the two. Or both. (Hardly anyone wears them anymore judging by my train journey. And now someone is sitting next to me. Go away! )

I actually had a costume last time which didn't quite work because the shoulder armour wouldn't curve around my shoulders properly and looked like it was floating. I ended up leaving it off and just looked like a regular bloke in a black outfit. I hoped to fix it this year and even had a couple of extra things to augment the look but I realised last minute I'd lost  the armour!**

*Which doesn't really set me apart from a lot of comic nerds.

**Now I come across like a kinky snecker!

Managed to sign a bunch of stuff for quite a few folks on the Sunday, but apologies to anyone who missed me on the Saturday — when John Wagner nicks your table, you don't argue. :-)

If we do this again next year and you want something signing, or just to say hello, collar me wherever you see me. Don't worry if it looks like I'm talking to someone, the other person will probably be glad of the opportunity to make a getaway.

It was great to meet the legend that is Jim Campbell and thanks for signing my RoK books. 👍🏻
It was my 2nd Lawless and really enjoyable once again- I was more relaxed this time as getting use to seeing all the comic talent from tooth and everyone is so friendly punters and Guests.

Sue and her team do a fantastic job organising.

🤞🏻 It happens next year and my diary is empty so I can get a hat-rick. 😁

Here's that Lew Stringer Mean Machine.
I really think Lew should be doing something like this in Regened.

I love that Barrington - I'll hopefully get round to posting my Judge Dan later tonight.
And agreed that Lew could do something in Regened.

Super effing annoyed to have missed this. Hotel and flights were paid for. I got up in time and got to the bus station, but the bus, that is meant to come every 20 minutes didn't arrive for the hour and a half I waited.
Made worse by me asking a driver where the bus was and him telling me it had just been a few minutes ago, despite me having been standing waiting for about 20 minutes. Bus company twitter is also super unhelpful - still no explanation as the why the service was not on.

Anyway - Bah! Hopefully see you all there next year!

Aye that was a damn shame. Bloody shitty transport! I wasn't the only one looking forward to catching up with you again.

Another good weekend though - Props to Su and the team for organising. Despite all the top talent in attendance - Wagner, Bolland, Fabry et al - I think I was most excited to meet Conrad off Spacespinner!

Eventually uploaded some of my Favourite Sketches I got done at Lawless.

1st up is a comparison of 2 John Higgins sketches. The Dredd one I got in 2019 and the Judge Glover I got this year - by all accounts this was only the 2nd time it has been requested. Watching him add in the details was amazing.

2nd one is Judge Desperate Dan by Lew Stringer- like I said perviously it would be great to see him do a wee strip in Regened

3rd is a mashup from Dan Cornwell of Rok (of the reds) morphing from impersonating Dredd - for those that have read the Rok books I love the idea of a mini Dredd running about trying to get back to his rightful size.

Lastly is one of my Fav ABC warriors from Clint Langley - Mongrol - I wish I had seen him at work but I left my Sketch book with him while I was at a couple of panels.

All the sketches, including the others from Ian Richardson, Steven Austin, Lee Carter and Mike Dorey I got done are great and when you these guys work it is amazing to us mere mortals how they bring these to the pages so quickly.

And I have the 1st Judge Glover, must have been a bit before you on Sunday! John said it was the first request for Glover he had had.

Superb and hopefully he gets many more requests as (🤞🏻) Dreadnoughts get more runs.

Lovely stuff McFad, thanks for posting! That Rok Dredd has a small touch of the Judda about him.

The effort Clint puts into convention sketches is unreal.
Top Art Droid and top bloke.

The others are great too, in particular those two by unwavering hand of the Higgins Droid.
