Events / The Art of Ian Kennedy at The Mercer Art Gallery
05 November, 2022, 01:01:07 PM
Hi all,

some info about the Ian Kennedy exhibition, as part of this years Thought Bubble...

There is a launch party, next Friday the 11th of November at 6pm in the Mercer Art Gallery,
which is 5 mins from the Harrogate Convention Centre - https://goo.gl/maps/dBVb2g9ZNdSa1Bx37

All welcome.

The exhibition will then run for 3 more months, more details below:

Ian Kennedy is undoubtedly a giant of the British comics art scene. Sadly, passing in 2022, Ian leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire for generations to come. Much lauded and highly respected by fans and fellow professionals, Ian Kennedy's career in comics spanned more than 70 years.

We are pleased to present a selection of original art from Ian's studio in Dundee. Enjoying an everlasting association with Commando comics, works featured include the artist's first-ever and final covers for the title, alongside artworks and curios from the many other titles whose pages Ian's masterful work graced. Characters and publications from Codename: Warlord to Dan Dare to 2000AD are on display in a three-month-long exhibition, launching as part of the Thought Bubble Comics Festival.

Anecdotes and annotations supplied by Ian's friends Phillip Vaughan (Abertay University) and Gordon Tait (DC Thomson) accompany the pieces on display as we celebrate a genuine one-off and remarkable talent.

It's a subscription copy, looks like its's a one off, so will keep a hold of it... although I maybe tempted to colour it in, which would ruin the value!

Not so much a review of the prog, but I had the unexpected return of Flesh (well a scary dinosaur) in my copy. Due to a printing anomaly the centre 16 pages of my prog are missing, to be replaced with a Barney colouring-in comic!!! Anyone else have this problem??? See pic...

I concur with Monty's post above, me being one of the judges on it an all :)
Original ideas and concepts would be the best option, obviously a 2000ad vibe
would be acceptable! Its a great little competition and the submissions for last years
Amazing Mr. X competition was of a very high standard!

I am sure the boarders on here are more than up for the challenge!!!

Can you talk a bit about the work you did for DC Thomson and specifically King Cobra?
