Wiki / Re: Copyright of text: CC, GDL, None?
« on: 29 March, 2010, 08:38:44 AM »
You'd have to harass w3bz (i'd suggest PMing him) for a real answer, but when I set up the wiki I intentionally left the copyright information blank, simply to get the site up rather than wait for Rebellions legal to work out what they wanted.

I'm not sure in which direction it would go, seeing as a lot of works posted on the wiki, like covers or even snippets from the issues, may feel under one legal umbrella, while a great deal of other information and writeups about issues and stories probably belong under CC or other general use lisences.

As far as Rebellion are concerned I don't think they're interested in laying claim to anything you write on the Wiki, such as information you post there, they just want to ensure they keep ownership of works that belong directly to them, like art or story extracts.

Again, badget w3bz for an answer, I don't think he reads these forums too often, so try PMing him or Wake who should be able to get in contact with him for more info. Hope that helps.

that proved more effective than anticipated  :o

Thanks guys, I'll miss the temporary bans, cryptic news announcements and bug reports.

Now.. how do I demote myself...  :-*

To all forum members,

It is with a sense of great sadness that I must announce on the 17th of March 2010 I will be leaving the 2000AD forums and my position as System Administrator, as well as my position of web goon at Rebellion - for on the very next day I will be boarding a 747 headed for Australia.

I've had both a great time on these forums, helping you guys out, fixing issues and tweaking features, as well as working at Rebellion and helping with their websites, and I hope this place doesn't go to hell without me.

I don't know if you guys will get a new goon to replace me, or if W3bz will be the one keeping an eye on this place, but to help with moderation we've finally decided to hand some of the responsibility over to a group of volunteer moderators - and they are:

His Lordship rac
House of Usher
Mike Carroll

These guys will be making sure you don't wreck up the place, will be taking out the trash in regards to reported posts, and helping out W3bz and Wake with the current moderation load.

I wish you guys all the best for the future and I'm still here for 3 days so don't go all lord-of-the-flies just yet

There were a few reports so I added the spoiler tags, but I didn't feel it was rule breaking in any way so no reason to delete it.

I think spoiler tags is as far as I go with censorship. Some people are a bit delicate, is all.

Personally, I enjoyed it.

You tell me, you wrote it. It's like the piccaso of stories.

It's like a rollercoaster in word format.

This has to be one of the most deliciously vile introspective ironic pieces I've read for a while. It left me feeling dirty.

As for the offence it evidently carries, am I not "getting" something?

I'll have to add some of these soon. Pretty awesome so far.

This is the greatest thread of all time.

It's like some crazy obsessive trainwreck.

I suggest he moves to england, finds out where they're printed and shack up next door.

I assume it's because poor ol' W3bz hasn't had the time.

You're doing it wrong

You'd need to edit in the magic word "__NOEDITSECTION__", which hides edit section links, into each of the templates.

I might do this myself if I get some spare time.

Correct! Here's the full list:

Code: [Select]
User Group                 Stars    Users    Posts Required
Mek-Quakes Leftovers       *        1825     1
Sub Basement Sewer Unit    *        499      10
Page Numbering Droid       **       110      100
Sentient Tea Bot           **       56       250
Prog Stacking Droid        ***      53       500
Posting Machine            ***      54       1000
Evil Cyborg                ****     16       2000
Battle Hardened War Robot  ****     33       2500
Bionic Fingers             *****    18       5000
CALL-ME-KENNETH!           *****    3        10000

I hadn't noticed the 2000AD Creators group only got the one star. I think I've corrected it now. Maybe.

To be honest, it's a pointless inciator or something we've got both words and numbers for. I'd rather we only had stars to indicate a user as a staff or important member, but it's a change to the template I can't be bothered to make.

Some series aren't characters, and some characters aren't series. This is a descendant from the Vault (front page) setup, where it doesn't make sense database-wise to mix the two into one entity.

Really though, the wiki is free for you guys to figure out. Can you make a separate topic about it?
