Like many here, I have a lot of reservations about Judge Death appearing in any of the films. Don't get me wrong, I loved the early Wagner/Bolland Judge Death stories but thereafter felt that the limitations of the characters meant that subsequent tales were rehashes of what had went before. I think when it comes to the films, the idea of bringing this supernatural foe to the screen is going to be challenging to say the least.
But, as Beaky pointed out, Alex Garland has indicated that Judge Death is his preferred villain for the sequel so I think it will happen one way or another. I also think that the inclusion of Anderson's character is - as well as to give Dredd someone to interact with - to set up the notion that there can be supernatural elements in MC-1, and thereby pave the way for Death's appearance up in the sequel.
I'm certainly interested to see how they deal with Anderson's psychic powers in "Dredd". If that and the rest of the film works well, I think I'll try to keep an open mind and trust that Mr Garland won't pen a sequel that undoes any good work done in the opening film.
