Some questions for knowledgable squaxx:

1. What radio station was Cool Johnny Cool on?
2. Who was the guy who was given to Max Normal as a gambling debt when he won his nightclub in a rigged shuggy game?
3. Is Cool Johnny Cool still alive?

Cheers!

Bolt-01

From memory: CJCool was killed is a strip by Glenn Fabry. This is the strip I found.

Yup, he was hounded by 'voices' that told him to kill himself so he went and threw himself into the garbage grinder in his apartment. Turns out he'd suddenly developed psychic abilities and the 'voices' were just a manifestation of everyone's hatred of him.

Scratch that idea, then... never mind.

So we won't be seeing the ghost of Cool Johnny Cool make an appearence then?

Bummer.

Cool Johnny Cool was introduced in Prog 506's 'They shoot DJ's don't they' as the top jock on Radio Radio Radio. A citizen's brain implant picked up Cool's show, causing him to threaten the star.

He bought the farm in Prog 740's 'Talkback'when a blow to the head caused him to tune into the city's collective hatred for him. After a few abortive suicide attempts he stuck his head in a grinder. A weeping psi Judge weeped for him until he heard a recording of his show, when he conceded his fate was just.

Not sure of your Nax Normal story although it sounds like a Cassanovas one from a JD annual - any more plot detail to tie it down?

Buttonman

Still on the case...

I think the body you are talking about is that of Marlon Brando. Max gets cheated out of a shuggy game by the Sharkey brothers and so poses as a criminal job placer and sends the cheats to steal the body, whilst simultaniously grassing them to Dredd for a fat reward. Not the cleverest of twists! From an early Dredd annual although I forgot to write down which one, and I've put the ladders away now...

Nah, this was an old Pete Milligan story where Max rigs a shuggy game and pretends to fall apart, so the crooked bar owner puts all his property and his assistant on Jean Ordinaire to win. Said nameless assistant ends up helping behind the bar at 'Normals'.

If you're being a bastion of knowledge, could you dig into the back progs in search of that old 'House Party' story where the entire block has an acieeeed rave-up, and tell me who the guy was who organised that one? I'm going to have to go find a copy of prog 740 somewhere as well, but that might have to wait until I can get to a proper London back prog shop.

I, Cosh

Jean-Luc Ordinaire. Wasn't that in an annual?
We never really die.

Al_Ewing

Might have been. I read it in a Complete JD Special. Brett Ewins art.

Can't find that Max outing in any of the JD annual episodes. If it was a sub plot in a Dredd adventure good luck in finding it!

No idea about your Dredd rave-up story either. If you have an idea of a title or rough prog period try xenoclast's excellent index...

If you are stuck for the Cool Johnny Cool strip let me and I'll e-mail you a scan of the pages, as long as the copyright holders don't object...

My index is okay when you know where to look, but might this site's index help even more in tracking down http://www.2000adonline.com/index.php3?zone=thrill&page=profiles&choice=max" target="_blank">Max Normal?

My annuals are in storage but it doesnt look like the story that Al is after is listed on Max's profile.
There are a couple of specials that it could be in that have no strips listed.

As for CJC, not a nice way to go.

All I've got both CJC strips on disc if you want to read them.
