Reality TV is dead, long live....?

What's going to be the next big thing on TV then, RTV has been flogged within an inch of it's life and is struggling with the antiseptic cream...

I quite like the idea of doing the opposite and bringing back great variety TV shows with all the new comics, musicians, actors, compares etc. that we now have.

Alternatively we could look at new tech. and how that could work, a TV show where we press the red button after each break to determine the outcome of the show...

The resurgent genre of quality drama - with shows like Lost, Desperate Housewives, 24, Spooks, Doctor Who etc - is supposedly the result of a backlash against Reality TV. It certainly seems to have reminded many, principally the Yanks, that good TV is the result of time, money and honest-to-goodness talent.

Hmm... have we seen anything of the explosion of quality fantasy that was predicted would follow the success of the Lord of the Rings films?
