Title: Forum’s Fav Thrill - D.R. Quinch vs. Nikolai Dante Rd 4 Heat 3
Post by: Colin YNWA on 05 July, 2022, 06:21:26 AM
Well we'll start Round 4 with no gush of excitement. No giddy anticipation of the tough, enthralling ties to come. Instead to really fire up those juices with a service announcement! Turn around is so fast I've not been mixing up these thread openers the way I intended and just kept rattling on with the same ol' format (for the posts the comp ain't changing). I had plans and maybe next round but for now, well if it ain't broke and all that... what and EXPLOSION into Round 4 hey!

Quite the tussle this one. Fan fav comedy classic D.R. Quinch by Northampton(shires) finest come up against Russia's greatest rebelling hero. A good forewarning about what this Round will do to you!

Form book:

D.R. & Quinch - Bye; Medivac 318; Glimmer Rats

Nikolai Dante - Bye; Age of the Wolf; Caballistics Inc

D.R. & Quinch - more info (https://shop.2000ad.com/series/dr-quinch)

Vs

Nikolai Dante - more info (http://www.2000ad.org/?zone=thrill&page=profiles&choice=nikolai)

Just reply in this thread naming your favourite thrill of these two series at the beginning of your post (or use Bold tags so I can spot it easily) and say what you like about these wonderful stories after that.

Match ends early on the morning of Friday 8th  July and the winner gets a place in Round 5 (of 9!!!).

What on Earth is ALL of this? (https://forums.2000ad.com/index.php?topic=48011.0)

For those that need 'um and can be bothered to follow 'um there's some simple rules (https://forums.2000ad.com/index.php?topic=48011.msg1070150#msg1070150)

Any questions, just ask as ever - and have FUN!

DR and Quinch hasn't dated well. Having seen
Jamie Smart's take in the 45th anniversary art book
, I wouldn't mind a reboot along those lines for Regened, but otherwise it just isn't for me anymore. Nikolai Dante, though, rose from quite good beginnings to 2000 AD masterpiece. An easy win.

Fondness for the handful of DR & Quinch anarchy can't compete with a mixture of fondness for and genuine admiration of 10+ years of anarchy and intrigue and indeed melodrama.

The Dashing Adventures of Nikolai Dante (and the lovers he left in his wake).

Love me a bit of Waldo and Ernest, but against Dante they come a distant second.

Easily Nikolai Dante. Also got a lot of love for DR and Quinch but Dante is one of the best things in the Prog, ever.

I can see how this is going to go: a lot of love for DR and Quinch, but not enough to prevent a comfortable win for Dante.

D.R. & Quinch is one of my all time favorite things in the comic - and could easily win over some of the other things in this round. So, it's a tough draw. I suppose that D.R. proved itself something of a one-trick pony - it was only the masterful scribblings of Grand Wizard Moore that allowed it to travel as far as it did. Frankly, nobody else should write it.

Nikolai Dante was, along with Sinister Dexter, one of the powerhouse thrills that took us out of the infamous 90s slump. It's a true epic - and despite some meandering (Amerika, I'm looking at you!) managed to maintain a mostly superb quality right up until it decided to finish its story. For the scope, for the arcs, for the flying pony-robot-things, and for the commitment to tragedy: of course this wins my vote.

Brief interjection to remind everyone that Nikolai Dante ENDED ten years ago this week.

Ended.

It doesn't seem close and with a day to go still I suspect we know the result already. More votes to come today and I'll count up in the morning.

VOTING CLOSED

Well there was a lot of love for DR and Quinch, not surprising given it by Alan Davis and the Wizard of Northampton. Its even more impressive therefore that Dante JUST didn't get into the 20+ club in this vote. Dante does have detractors but is it building up enough support to mount a bid to lead the Tories... win the tourney? We will see in time for now we do know

Nikolai Dante

Will be swinging for your votes in Round 5.
