LOL

Absolutely superb illustration, thank you.  Even if it was a half-inched idea ( sorry, have I just broken some other rule with that one? ).

how to enjoy Armitage? like everything else in Meg / tooth, take each story on its merits and if someone disagrees with your opinion then deploy tactical nuclear weapons!
Look on the bright side, it's a damn sight better than those poxy film reviews.

Also, is it me or was the quality of the Hershey / Steel reprint in this month's 'supplement' [ sorry, pedant mode - that is NOT a graphic novel! ] a bit scrappy?

Strontium Dog-  I'm enjoying this. I wasn't too sure of the resolution Alpha took... but it has proved interesting. Am I right in saying that S/D agents have another more preciese method of time travel outside of utilizing time bombs? Sure, I understand them not being able to use it, it being a sudden decision, just wondered like (I haven't read many of his earlier adventures beyond a couple of tales on this site). Oh, and that's what a mork is! (For some reason I got 'Mork' mixed up with 'gronk' in my head.)

There is a time machine in the doghouse if I remember rightly.  Could well be that this story is set before that since the current run of stories is set at different points in Alpha's life.  I would have to agree with your explanation as the most likely but at the end of the day are we really so anal that we care that much?  ;)

Dredd really does seem to be going down a similar road to that of the Pit.  I may be completely off base but the Munn / Bueller characters seem strikingly similar as do Heck / Lee.  For me this is shaping up into a much more interesting approach.  I'm still itching to see what is going on with the council of five though.  Francisco just doesn't seem strong enough for CJ.  Knowing Mr Wagner I'm sure we will see something flying at us from left field on that one.

Dante does seem to be working up into a nice interlude.  I like the idea of exploring the universe from the perspective of some of the other characters for a change.  Marshall's artwork is finally warming on me too.

Kingdom - hmmm Planet of the Apes anyone?  Never been a great fan and Elson's art does tend to be a bit scrappy in places but still ticking over nicely.

Shakara - more 'e' vicar?  Henry Flint is always a sublime pleasure and the understated colour palate works nicely.  Be interesting to see where Morrison is taking this.

All in all a definite high.

Like a prize mook, I've only just realised looking at that cover that we've finally been given that inevitable Long Walk story, only in the usual completely different Wagner way.  I'm reminded of the oft-cited writer's problem of having a lone hero in the wilderness with no-one to talk to, as most famously solved in Rogue Trooper with the bio-chips.  Here we get Wagner's solution to Dredd's Long Walk - make it a team of Almost Long Walkers!.

Dead man notwithstanding!  ;)

Actually this new policy of posting the new cover days ahead of it arriving on the doorstep is doing nothing for my insomnia!

I think the only time anyone would pay Silveracre prices these days is when they're looking for a specific Prog or two to complete a run. A fiver (including postage) for ten Progs is a more realistic eBay benchmark.

to be honest the only reason I recommended them was that a.  they tend to carry a wide selection, b.  it gives some idea of the range, and c you have better comeback if there are problems.  The only advantage of them is like you say, being able to be specific compared to ebay.  Plus you are more likely to get an accurate description of the quality.  Whilst you can get some real low prices on ebay the quality can sometimes be a bit dubious and it is not always clear until you get the comics.

Silveracre www.silveracre.com and Incognito  comics www.incognitocomics.com are two of the few online dealers that carry back issues so those would be a couple of places.

Usual blather about condition etc but ebay is really hammering down prices so you would probably be looking at about the £1 level for most even as far back as 200.  Plus the prices you see here tend to be fairly reflective of current value.  Some of the earlier specials ( 78, 79 ) tend to be highly sought after but the later ones, not so much, especially those from the 90's.  Hope this is of some use and good luck with the website.

anyone any other suggestions of what to buy bulk wise from the bargain bins, i've been recomeneded Starman and the question

Don't know if you'll find them in the Bargain bins but 100 bullets and Y the last Man would be ones I would recommend.  The other stuff worth looking into is Edginton / Disraeli's War of The Worlds adaptations and Sequels [ Scarlet Traces / Great Game ].  Scarlet Traces was reprinted in the Meg a few years back and Dark Horse has done some very nice hardback editions of all three that are insanely reasonably priced [ £11 for Great Game ].  I must also confess an affection for The Alien Legion not to mention The Last American.

What you have to bear in mind is that Wagner likes to play the Long Game. Yes, there's going to be some inevitable conflict between Dredd and Dan, but this being Wagner that's a story arc that's going to take years to ultimately play out.

I think too many people are expecting Tour of Duty to in some form resolve the ongoing mutant storylines, which are probably more likely simply going to be a catalyst for a new Cursed Earth jaunt, probably not even featuring Francisco. I expect it'll be a good few years yet before we get any sort of resolution of the issue such as you're suggesting - think Kraken/Necropolis, or the still-as-yet unresolved Mayor Maybe plotline. The Long Game, people.

You also have to bear in mind that this is the midpoint of a long game.  Look back at the storylines that Wagner has run since Francisco was introduced in the middle of the Origins epic.  It's not the first time Beeny's been Dredd's sidekick in the CE and we've still got plenty of hanging threads from the Mutants in Mega City arc.  I wouldn't be surprised to find that there is still some life in Edgar yet [ current deceased state notwithstanding ].  I wonder if this is going to be more in the vein of the Pit than the Apocalypse War for now.

What for me makes this so stunning is that even knowing we could still be sat here this time next year waiting for the full denouement, still I'm actually looking forward to it.  When was the last time a Marvel / DC storyline had that effect?  I've been waiting months to see how Ultimatum ended just for some degree of closure, other than that I can't say I care that much.  Alan Moore might be the king of the multi layered text but Wagner could teach Straczynski a thing or two about long term plotting.  The comic world equivalent of Lord Vetinari?

It can't be long until these are a little more affordable - the faint memories I have and the art I've seen is just beautiful.  Easily one of the things that Burns is going for when he paints Dante, don't you think?

Definitely.  The similarities with Lawrence are unmistakable.  I remember flicking through the old look and learn's back in school that carried the strip, Lawrence's and Burns' ships have a lot in common.  It would be great to be able to afford the current reprints because the larger page size allows a greater appreciation of the detail in the work.  I was 'umming and 'aahing at one point over whether to put up my Hawk Dare's and go for the Titan's.  Did look at a couple but decided in the end that with the number I had it made more sense to try and get the last few ( bl**dy 'Terra Nova Trilogy'! ) rather than starting over.  The way they are appreciating as well, might make a nice inheritance for the kids to boot.  Plus at the time Titan's track record on following through a series was a bit hit and miss.  That said, Hawk fudged it a bit with the final volume, picking what they felt were the best of the later stories.  Will be interesting to see what Titan do then.  Might end up supplementing the current collection.

Ok well maybe to say I was 'VERY ANGRY' was a little over the top but I am quite pee'd off if Im honest and I'm afraid Dark Jimbo you can't take that away from me. Ive read hundreds of 2000AD progs and hundreds of Megazines and when I saw 'The Complete Judge Dredd Case Files Vol 1' I thought wow thats great idea and to quote from the pack cover:

"Now you can re-discover the roots of this legendary character in this vast and Thrill-packed series of graphic novels collecting together all of Dredd's adventures in chronological order, complete and uncut!"

As I'm sure many can agree when something is described as "Complete and Uncut" you wouldn't expect after spending £181.87 (13x£13.99) for the cases to be 'incomplete and cut' which is clearly what is being considered here. Again I must draw attension to the fact that Rebellion has never made it clear that the material will only be from the pages of 2000AD.

...

These books aren't really for kids they are for die hard DREDD fans with cash to spend who want to re-live they're youth reading DREDD. I want it complete and I want it in one volume and I have a feeling most people do and thats why they started buying it in the first place.

You have to admit, the fella does have a point, the inference that this will cover all of Dredd's 'adventures' is a reasonable one.  Interesting to note though that if you look at later case files this tagline does not appear on the blurb.  It would be nice to have some idea of how Rebellion plan to deal with the Megazine period, after all it will be necessary to synchronise in one or two cases.

I'm not entirely sure that I would agree completely with the point about these being for die hard fans, personally I felt that they missed an opportunity by not doing a hardback edition which I would happily spend dosh on to preserve the originals.  I did like what Titan were doing with the hardback versions they put out before Rebellion took the contract back in house.  That said, it's only because my collection is already as complete as I want it.

Now, about that Bakewell ...

Well I've taken the plunge and ordered the first book on the strenght of DXB's enthusiasm. Im a fan of 50s childrens fiction (WE Johns ect) anyway so old fashioned morals and a bit of melodrama shouldn't put me off. I'll put my own thoughts up once digested.

Might want to jump then to 'the man from nowhere' through 'reign of the robots'.  Artwork was always sumptuous ( personal view ) but the stories could sometimes be a bit ropy, largely because of the change in sensibility.  Currently working through the 80's Eagle Dares, some really horrible stuff in places!

(Pity the Don Lawrence Trigan Empire stuff hasn't been given the same treatment. I couldn't even pretend to be able to afford the last collections.)

I'm hoping that Titan will pick these up like they did with Dare after Hawk books finished their run.  Certainly I hope so, some of the prices are scary!  :o

Are the publishers actually considering now after making me buy 13 releases of 'THE COMPLETE JUDGE DREDD CASE FILES' that they might not actually be putting in the COMPLETE Judge Dredd Case Files?

I have to assume that we are glossing over the obvious incompleteness for copyright reasons of the 'banned issues'. ;)

Could I have some shortbread with my tea please?
