Dandontdare

is it possible to get that free sample track without one of those smartphone scanner thingies?

COMMANDO FORCES

Think yourself lucky that you haven't heard it!

Dandontdare

thanks for posting that. I don't do Facebook either (You know as a kid I always thought futises made little sense - you wouldn't call it Future Shock 'cos to you it would be the prersent, it sounded silly. Nowadays I am warming to the idea. I'm one New Web Phenomenon away from running down Deansgate with automatic weaponry!)

Frank

I want that shirt.

I'm enjoying the album and the idea that this might have been the Dredd soundtrack is tantalising. I'd recommend listening to it on a nighttime drive through the city; there are parts of Glasgow, the elevated section of the Clydeside Expressway that passes the construction work around the SECC, where the city already does a passable impression of the nascent MC1 we see in Origins and Al's Baby.

Apparently, Drokk functions as an alternative soundtrack for the 1995 film too, in the same way Dark Side of the Moon synchs-up with The Wizard of Oz- anyone tried it yet?

I like the music but as a soundtrack to the new Dredd I don't think it would've fully worked nor do I think it is fully up to scratch for those purposes. If they'd made a Dredd film in the 80's this would've been perfect but some of it is too retro-Carpenter.

It remains to be heard what Paul Leonard-Morgan has done but he had this to say about his Dredd-score:

Take a bunch of 80's analog synths, stick them through every distortion pedal known to man, then add on some crunched up beats, and you should be halfway there...

The more I listen to it the better it gets.

For some stupid reason I wasn't expecting this to be my sort of thing, but thanks to that link, I've had a listen and really enjoyed it. Very atmospheric and as Joe says it has a retro-soundtrack vibe that I really appreciate.

Noisybast

Not bad at all (if not really the sort of thing I'd generally listen to). I think it would quite nicely as a movie or game soundtrack, but I can't see this going on heavy rotation for the drive to work.
Dan Dare will return for a new adventure soon, Earthlets!

COMMANDO FORCES

I was on about the free track not the album!

I may get round to listening to the whole thing before I buy it, through that link.

Mudcrab

Just got round to checking this out. Can see the "Carpenter film" comparison pretty clearly, but it's also very Koyaanisqatsi (I refuse to look it up to check, so the spelling's probably wrong).

It also strikes me that you could conceivably do a mix of that with Catch 33 and get away with it  :D

Also reminding me a bit of Jeff Mills' Metropolis soundtrack. No surprise there though I suppose.

I really want to kid myself that I can justice spending £60 on this, love Portishead, like what I've heard of it, love that t-shirt, like me a nice bit of vinyl, love me some Dredd... but I can't...

... I really can't...

Its times like this I wish I had the same mentality as Commando Forces then this would be mine... sigh...

I LOVE Jeff Mills. "Robot Replica" off Metropolis is a very ace track.
