The fourth MONIAIVE COMICS FESTIVAL to be held in
Dumfries and Galloway takes place over the week of
September 1-5th.

The festival was started four years ago as a Moniaive Action Project initiative to boost tourism after the area was devastated by foot and mouth. All monies raised from the festival go back to the village of Moniaive for village events.

From Wednesday 1st September to Sunday 5th September the festival is hosting an exhibition of original Dandy & Beano Artwork (courtesy of DCThompson) in the Masonic Hall. Exhibition runs 11.00 - 4.30 daily. Donations only. (Preview party on Tuesday 31st August 7pm)

The weekend of 4/5th September sees Moniaive alive with comic strip writers, artists and editors and all for ?1.

There is a programme of workshops on both writing and art, free signings and sketchings, competitions, an animation workshop, demonstration of computer colouring and 3D work, a short video by Glasgow students, raffle, fancy dress parade, stalls, the infamous comic version of the ?Weakest Link? and a ?Mudfinger? a superhero with strange mud-like powers will be wandering the streets on the look out for victims.

Entry is ?1 for the weekend with children under 11 free. Free comic on entry.

Events are staged in both Hotels and the Memorial Institute in Moniaive - all within a minutes walk of each other.

Guests to date include: Alan Grant (writer Batman, Judge Dredd, Ace Lightning); John Wagner (writer and creator of Judge Dredd); Ferg Handley (writer Commando and Spiderman); Frank Quitely (artist X men); Jon Haward (artist Spiderman); Dougie Braithwaite (artist The Hulk); Barry Kitson (artist Legion of Superheros); David Bishop (writer 2000AD related novels); Graham Manley (artist DC Thompson); Maurice Heggie editor of the Dandy; Wayne Thompson, Karl Dixon (artists on Beano?s Billy the Whizz, Beryl the Peryl etc.); Nigel Dobbyn (artist Power Rangers, Thunderbirds); Gerry Moore (Caricaturist); Stuart Croft-Perkins (Class of 79) and Jamie Grant (artist MacAlien of Moniaive) plus many more.

A full programme of events is available on Tharg's Newsround

Dudes,

bizarrely this link takes me to a page that says it hasn't been updated since October 2003 and has the old comic festival details on it from last year.

I swore I'd seen an up to date one somewhere.
Be excellent to each other. And party on!

There is a prgramme apperently, but it might be pretty new as I've just e-mailed for it.

is it just me or is that too low res to comfortably read?

I feel like I've just deciphered some alien hyroglyphics.  Tired and unsure if I've got the right meaning.

Still, looks fun.

Not just you. The image has been stretched from too small. Here is the actual size.
