Title: Prog drought!
Post by: Leigh S on 11 October, 2020, 03:59:53 PM
Has anyone else had a problem with their progs?

I am three saturdays down without a prog, coinciding with my Annual Subscription being taken at the start of the month - contacting Subs and they have put me on hold until Friday on the proviso that post can be three weeks delayed, but it seems to me that this is not normal!

I went out and bought 2201 last week, but no 2202 or 2203 as yet... If nothing turns up tomorrow, tempted to buy 2202 before it goes off the shelves and just ask for my sub to be pushed forward a couple of weeks.

I seem to recall having to get in touch with Subs last year with my annual renewal not "sticking", but they fixed it pretty quickly that time....anyone else have similar problems?

I subscribed for the first time last week. I got a couple of subscriber gifts sent out to me but have yet to receive prog 2202. I was planning on sending an email tomorrow if nothing turns up.

Doesn't look as if anyone has 2203 yet.

My sub failed to renew because my payment card had expired, but mail delivery has been so random since lockdown I hadn't noticed - I had only just decided I'd better call when they emailed me. That nice chap at Rebellion is backdating it and sending me a bundle of missed progs - just in time for my week off work!

I know for sure my £170 was taken 1st October, so it is pretty galling - I'm presuming the year ran out before the 1st October, but as they didnt take until then, it created a gap with prog 2201 and that has knacked my sub up (as I seem to recall happened last year) - why it is any different to the monthly sub I don't know (not had any gifts either, though I saw some advertised a few progs back?).

I've just had a "how did we do?" email re the customer service... not sure yet!

Now you mention it, the gifts I got were "2019 Subscription" ones, not the badges that were advertised.

My copy of 2203 turned up on Saturday, but it's the first prog that has for a while. I did have chat with my postie earlier in the week and he apologised that my 'magazine' had been turning up late (I didn't bring up the subject, he did), but apparently it's across the board with all post that he's been regularly delivering.

I thought I'd just check the forum and see if it wasn't just me, and...it wasn't just me!

Same here - 2201 and 2202 haven't been received at all, and 2203 didn't turn up on Saturday either. Very odd to be late AT ALL and have never had two (maybe three) progs go missing. It also tied in with my subscription renewing per OP.

I contacted customer services who first asked me to wait ten working days (for 2201) and then was told 2201 and 2202 would be re-sent, which I've yet to receive.

I'm relieved, in a way, as a bigger problem tends to get sorted quicker but I do wish they would just own up if there's been a problem.

Well I am still 3 progs adrift, or at least I would be if I ahdnt picked them up from the Newsagents. I've asked for my Sub to be pushed on 2 weeks instead, in the hope that might fix the problem next year... however no response yet to my suggestion - any luck yourself Dossa?

I'm still waiting for a response as well, with no sign of the two progs I'm missing. Newsagents not an option for me.

Hmm.  Kinda. Received 2021 and 2022, but these were replacements sent by customer services. So, still haven't had a sniff of three progs in three successive weeks. Clearly not a postal problem, but some kind of picking error, I suppose?

That would be my guess - I have pointed the Customer Service people to this thread, so hopefully they will get back to me soon with the answer!

I'm in Australia and was getting my progs from my LCS - last one here was also #2166.

I've been wanting to move from my LCS as the price was a bit steep, and was going to shift over to a subscription (the only two newsagents near me both closed within a fortnight of each other at the very start of the year), but considering the state of UK-Aus postage it currently doesn't sound like it'd be much of an improvement

No prog, no email - that's what you get when you rebel rouse on the forum!

Honestly, be nice to have just a holding email while they check out whats up.  £170 quid is no small biscuits!  I'm already buying progs here at more than the sub cost, to make up for their sneck up, so I can't see the problem with my suggestion....

Possibly I went too far in my last prog review....  :-\ :'( :-* :( >:(

By way of update - CS got back to me, and have (hopefully) sorted the problem.  Essentially, I had been "missed off the print lists" when my subscription renewed.  Sounds like a tick box error, but have been assured it's been resolved now, with the missing progs in transit.

Definitely worth a mail to CS if you're in a similar position, just to check if your renewal has been logged correctly.

Good news, Dossa - I have not had anything  :(

I'd like to think I've got sorted along with yourself, but I havent heard frm them for a week now - Tharg, if you are looking here, take pity on a poor Earthlet!  I'm already £6.20 down on buying two progs, let alone this weeks!

I had a similar problem, with email conversation just stopping. I've a sneaky suspicion that my mails either went to junk due to frequency, or they diverted to a particular member of CS, who may not have been available. So, I hurried things along by starting again via the web form, summing up what had been discussed previously. Got a quick reply and a positive conclusion (I hope...)

I think you are well within your rights to ask for a voucher along with replacement copies, and, from previous experience, I think you have a good chance of getting one.

I'm 4 progs down (and a meg?) and a bit tee'd off to be honest - I told them at the beginning they needed to check the sub was OK from previous experience, and all I got was a "if you haven't had it be Friday we will send you some... well I have them, I don't like not getting a prog if it is going off sale, even in this age of modern miracles.  hoepfully this gets sorted witha  response Monday or I am canceeling the annual and going back to Monthly where this kind of nonsense never happened....
Title: Re: Prog drought!
Post by: Leigh S on 19 October, 2020, 04:24:45 PM
Well the drought has broken with 2204 and the Meg, but no sign of 2201 to 2203, which of course I do not want to see as I have just gone and filled in the gap by getting 2203 from WHSmiths and already purchased 2201 and 2202 due to the slow reaction to my request for Subs to check if I ahd fallen off...

All good, except no email and no pushing forward of my subscription, so the question becomes do I cancel it and go monthly? - Not happy  with the annual service AT ALL.  Both years it has bitten me and it's just not worth me stumping up that wad of cash up front to Tharg (albeit for a saving) if it's going to mean I end up progless for stretches.

I see there is a option for a two year subscription. My subscription is up soon so I will see if I have issues.
Title: Re: Prog drought!
Post by: Leigh S on 19 October, 2020, 09:22:29 PM
Yeah, I noticed that - curious as to who that would appeal to - no saving over the yearly one, but at least you might avoid the annual disruption.

Still don;t get why this is happens to annual subs but not monthly ones - it is surely the same principle of renewing after a certain time period?

Leigh - speaking as a confirmed 'monthly' subber who has been letting that light fingered Betelgeusian into my bank account every month for about 17 years now; I've never been asked to reconfirm my sub.
Title: Re: Prog drought!
Post by: Leigh S on 20 October, 2020, 06:02:17 PM
I was a monthly subber from prog 1246 to October 18 when Tharg lured me to annual with some exclusive gifts, and yeah, no recurring problems - very few missing progs or need to contact subs.

Good news and credit where it is due, Subs have sorted me out today, so I'm hoping that next year with my sub due before the progs run out, I might be in for less problems (unless as I think may be the case I have just pushed them back a few weeks! We shall see - if it is the case it keeps happening, I will revert to monthly

I called my LCS in Melbourne earlier in the week to see if there was any hope and they got back to me to let me know that - supposedly - the monthly prog packs would be resuming from where they left off in a week or so. Good news!

That said, the idea of having five months or so of progs and megazines arriving all at once wasn't particularly appealing from a financial standpoint, but it seems they'll be spaced out to slowly get caught up.

I know someone up-thread will have mentioned the digital option - cheaper to buy, cheaper to store, lighter to store, never gets damaged, it's never late etc.

(I do appreciate the joy of sitting somewhere relaxing with a physical prog in hand, but that was in the before-time.)

It is a very mental shift. It took me awhile to get use to the digital version of publications but now all my comics and books are only digital. Physical copies are always better but the reality is also as things are going now in a few years we might only have digital.

Another great thing about the digital option is it is very easy used as a quick reference.

I'm 8 months plus into digital only. It's not as pleasant a ritual as a physical read, no question, but I've got used to it and it's almost half the newsagent price and at my fingertips every Wednesday when I wake up. The Prog savings more than cover the Meg, and planning to buy physical collections with the balance is free of double-dipper guilt.

Give it a whirl for a month or two, you can always pick up back progs later (I may).

I'm trying to figure out a way forward. As much as I love my complete collection of 2000 AD and the Meg, it's not viable to continue with. It already takes up the entire space under the spare room bed, and I know I won't likely ever read them through again. It'll be a huge wrench to part with them, and I'm not ready yet, but I think that's in my future.

Which leaves two choices: continue to subscribe in print, but then sell on the Progs at the start of every year; go for a digital Prog instead. I'm increasingly tempted by the latter. Rebellion would still get my money, and I'd build a collection of comics on my NAS drive that I could access at any point, with the bonus they wouldn't take up any physical space.

But, as I said, I'm not there yet. (The Rebellion comics are the last survivors for me, since Titan pissed me off too much with Doctor Who comics and Panini canned MWOM.)

There's ya problem. Plan a re-read. Its a joy. I mean mines going to take the best part of 6 years I reckon by the time I finish. But the good thing about that is once finished I'll be well ready to start again!

Which would be fine, but... With the 6yo, I currently have maybe two hours tops, per day, of my own time. And along with several thousand 2000 AD comics sitting there, I have a pile of unread books, loads of Marvel Panini reprints in a cupboard, half-finished Pi projects, etc. :/

I mean, it's really first-world problems to be complaining about being rich in geeky projects, and I'm more than aware of that. But it is starting to head into guilt territory. (My wife is very cool about this. She's happy with all the books on or shelves, and says I'll read them eventually when mini-IP is older. But she is starting to nudge a bit about the 2000 ADs...)

Ha! I'm reliably informed by other parents that things change pretty quickly from this point on, in terms of time. So we'll see. I'm not going all Marie Kondo, but there is a point where things become a burden rather than something positive, and my Progs are teetering on the brink — although my subscription itself absolutely is not.

I've not had 2208 but the Meg turned up yesterday.

Been erratic like this for weeks now. 2207 was several days late and 2206 actually came the day after it, by which time I'd already bought it in Tesco. Same thing happened with 2204 so keep ending up with two copies due to panicking and thinking it won't come at all.

Prior to that it was all pretty stable with either Saturday or Monday deliveries.

Wednesday. I arise, blearey eyed and sleep-starved, dragging foosteps and clumsy fingertips at my morning routine. But then from outside - what is this? A cheerful whistling, the crunch of footfall on gravel as the postman approaches. The letterbox rattles as a mornings treasures drop to the mat below. My heart sings, my mornings toil is forgotten as I scramble to retrieve them.

... but no. As postman departs and I stand alone in the hallway like a forgotten statue, clutching a bank statment and a Grazebox with empty eyes. Upstairs the cat meows excitedly as he savages a mouse of cloth, it's innards shredded like my hopes of reading the next installment of Hookjaw. All is darkness.

I weep with you brother - never has pain been so gloriously shared.

I saw the postie coming up the path this morning and jumped up to open door, lest he fold my Prog in two. He proceeded to hand me a brown HMRC envelope for my wife's company about Brexit and a brochure for a Buckinghamshire retirement home.

Alas no Prog.

Localized entirely within the 2nd lock-down of a global pandemic?

Just posted this on our socials, thought I would be an idea to add on this thread too:

Subscribers: there continues to be huge postal disruption across the UK, which is delaying the arrival of subs issues of 2000 AD. Unfortunately, this is beyond our control. Please be patient during this challenging and unusual period. Our customer services droids are as frustrated as everyone by these delays, we know they're "just" robots but please do not take your frustrations out on them! Tharg abides!

Yeah the need for this one sat a little uncomfortably with me. And when I nosed at reactions on some fan sites most folks were lovely and understanding. But some, a few I will note, still seemed to use the post being a bit rubbish during a chuffin' pandemic and since its been privitised, as a way to beat on Rebellion. As if Jason has earned enough off our backs and should be delivering the Prog personally on his horsey. Seriously folks seemed pissed at the company, on a Wednesday, only four days or so after the comic was due. Which I really hope hasn't lead to nasty phone calls to real folks, who have no control over this...

...that might explain my rant on another thread thinking about it!
Title: Re: Prog drought!
Post by: Barrington Boots on 19 November, 2020, 09:22:00 AM
Agreed - I never honestly thought people would be kicking off over this and everyone realised delays would be down to the post office (which isn't really their fault either, having been bollocksed up by being privatised, in the middle of a global pandemic and it being Chritsmas - as Christmas where everyone's shopping is being done by post, pretty much) so the fact 2000AD had to put out this statement is a bit of a surprise.

Anyway - my prog has just ARRIVED! So there is hope for us all.
Title: Re: Prog drought!
Post by: scrotnig on 19 November, 2020, 09:51:07 AM
Indeed, I never thought it was Rebellion's fault. I really hope nobody's giving the staff a hard time.

Keeping the prog and meg in full production throughout all this has been magnificent and very impressive.

And it's not the posties' fault either. It's a challenging situation, many will have to isolate at times for various reasons.

It's the randomness of mail these days that's weird. It used to be you could set your calendar by The Phoenix. It arrived, without fail, every Friday. Now, it shows up all over, from Thursday to the following Wednesday. Mostly, it's Saturday/Monday. And they're checking these out early. Beano varies from Friday to Wednesday. 2000 AD for me has usually gone from Saturday to Monday. Just one of those things. It'll show up eventually, and if it doesn't and is deemed lost I'm sure 2000 AD will send a replacement. I've got plenty to read in the meantime anyway.

I agree it does seem random. I've had some post arriving the next day, others seem to take a week or more. The Beano was a bit erratic last month, but is now arriving earlier than usual. I imagine there are local bottlenecks, rather than a complete failure of the system.

I've not yet. Our copies of The Phoenix are also coming very late. Which is a sure sign of problems as they arrived like clockwork before, even at the height of the first lockdown, when they actually arrived earlier than normal typically. I think its not landed on a Friday only twice since March, that is before the last two weeks when its been 5 or so days late both weeks. Using that as a barometer I'm expected the Prog to arrive 5 - 7 days late (from Saturday) and that's cool. Fingers crossed we get to the bumper X-Mas Prog and things will sort themselves out over Christmas.

I don't really mind. My last two progs both arrived six days late, so if that happens again then I'll still be getting my progs at weekly intervals as normal. There will just have been one gap of 13 days two weeks ago, which is in the past now. It's only a problem if you keep looking at it as " my prog is always late" instead of considering that the gaps between progs are normal.

Title: Re: Prog drought!

Yeah the randomness makes this a little harder to deal with. Somethings seem fine (ish) others seem regularly delayed. Not knowing the inner workings of Royal Mail I don't know if so massive mail outs (so sub copies from printers) go via a different process to mailout of a smaller scale?

I had a nosey at Royal Mails website and they give vague updates, but little specific info. So clearly their service will be impacted by safe working practices and reduced staffing due to isolation and illness. There is however nothing to suggest the more systemic problems we seem to be seeing with subs services. I wonder how wide spread it is?

Well now 3 weeks without any sign of either prog or meg.  Other mail is getting through but it feels a little like parcel mail is more reliable.  I do wonder if this is the shape of things to come as RM is trying to kill off letter post in favour of parcel post.

On the positive side, having been asked by subs to hang on and give it 3 weeks to see if owt turns up, I find an email from the aforementioned subs department asking if anything had arrived or if they needed to sort a replacement.  In this day and age it is more than a little unusual to find the company chasing the customer rather than the other way round.

Fair dues.

Just to chip in from the shire of Cambridge, my 2209 and 2210 both arrived Saturday, but 2205 was seemingly intercepted by thrill-suckers and never showed.  The subs people were very helpful in organising a replacement which arrived about a week later.

Just to put people's minds (slightly) at ease, it's not just the prog.  I started a New Scientist sub back in January, which usually arrived on a Friday (a day after on-sale).  Gradually this has slipped to Saturdays, almost perfectly in sync with the prog shifting to Mondays.  However I'm still waiting for this week's to arrive, and one or two previous issues have been delayed by a week or so.

When I've managed to chat with the postman he's indicated they've had xmas-levels of post for some time now, but not the usual extra staff to handle it.  I guess they have to prioritise and perhaps standard regular bulk mail-outs drop down the queue a bit - might explain why replacements and specials seem to get through.

Good to know it's not just the Prog impacted (well, sort of good - commiserations to those still awaiting other missives).
My copy of 2210 has now arrived but no 2209. Raised with the subs team, had no answer but I suspect they're snowed under somewhat...

Why is the prog like a London bus?

Because you wait ages for one and then three turn up at once!  (plus the meg).

Interesting to see what happens with the end of year prog now then.

As a postie, I've read this topic with great interest. I can only talk about the office I work in with any authority. However if that is anything like other offices around the country any delays in the prog are the fault of Royal Mail and not Rebellion. We have been struggling for months to deal with the extra volume of parcels since covid happened. Management want us to prioritise parcels over mail. Saturday is also seen as a light day for mail and so it can be rolled over until Monday to allow for more parcels to be delivered. It's an unfortunate set of circumstances that all go against the prog.
Title: Re: Prog drought!
Post by: Dandontdare on 04 December, 2020, 11:31:56 PM
I only got 2209 yesterday - but Colin's right. My prog delivery went noticeably worse a few years ago along with our postal deliveries in general. Monday became the norm, maybe later. Many times I called Denise who'd dispatch a replacement, only for the original to show up a few days later (the record was a 3 month old prog delivered).

My mate's been a postie for about a year now and he's encountered so much shit from just trying to do a good job. And his stories don't inspire confidence in the organisational skills of the Royal Mail.

Calling Denise was always an easy fix, but they're still pretty good - Simon was very helpful when my sub lapsed accidentally (he sent me a bundle of missed progs and followed up with an email checking if I was missing any Megs - I know I'd received and read the anniversary special, but I think I may have recycled it by accident. I jokingly mentioned this and he sent me a free digital copy - which was nice)

If the change from Royal mail having to deliver letters on a Saturday does happen it will be even worse for subscribers. It would be the end of Saturday delivery.

They definitely seem to of stopped letter delivery in my area by Braintree on a Saturday, people posting on the local Facebook site haven't received letter post on a Saturday but Monday or Tuesday instead for at least a month now, parcel deliveries seem to be priority
Title: Re: Prog drought!
Post by: IndigoPrime on 06 December, 2020, 11:38:22 AM
That's what's going on. Large letter deliveries here are all over the place. They're clearly being 'stacked' and delivered at random. We got three of mini-G's things all at once a while back, and those publications never before aligned. Parcels seem to not be delayed though.

But then this was always going to happen once Royal Mail was sold off. It's no longer about a universal service but viability. And this will be the first step. We'll shift from "no letters on a Saturday" to "letters only on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday" within a year or two. (Parcels will be the trickier one. Right now, Royal Mail is obligated to delivery parcels Mon–Fri, but not Saturday. Who knows where it will head in future?)

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-55263177 (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-55263177)

To be fair my default position is bloody since they got privitised. When it should probably be. Bloody unique conditions of reduced staff due to illness / isolating and massivley increased demand due to global pandemic.... but I'm being grumpy at some folks on Facebook suggesting all colour art in 2000ad is not as good as the black and white stuff in the first 500 issues so I'm going with my unreasonable stance here....

Prog 2211 or the Xmas Prog 2212 -
my Prog's have been arriving over a week later for over two months mostly
I ordered the Xmas Misty 2020 and Dredd Year Three new book by Lauren Sills -
both arrived yesterday - thankfully both are Xmas Presents ( first one for a young kid -
second for me )

I was also informed the Trigan Empire Volume 2 was shipped late - probably arrive next month

I appreciate its not Rebellions fault - but might be a good idea not to release them right at the end of December in future - in case this happens again ( down a Xmas Present )
eg can they release the Hellman of Hammer Force edition in late November 2021 ??

Title: Re: Prog drought!
Post by: SmallBlueThing(Reborn) on 30 December, 2020, 01:51:19 PM
All the people unable to get their thrills- has anyone found the prog not appearing in their local newsagents? I buy mine from Smiths, and this year has seen the prog going from being massively "overstocked" (15 copies one week), to the more usual ten, down to a bare three at one point. They only got six of the current issue.

The specials have been similarly haphazard- with the 2000AD Sci-Fi Special being the most conspicuous by its absence (only two copies), while others such as John Steel had ten plus.

All very odd. I understand the pressures of the year, etc, but surely the number of ordered copies of long-running titles should stay around the same from issue to issue?

I always pass through WHSMITHS on a Wednesday morning as they are putting them out on display, so I would say at least 48 weeks this year I have received my copies from the box before they hit the shelf.

I'm a monthly subscriber.  The last month was downright bizarre.  No prog for three weeks then all turned up on pretty much the same day.  Unfortunately just after the subs department had asked about them and then said they would put replacements in the post.

So it looks more like the posties are the problem than the subs department.  As for Smiths (which is pretty much the only local newsagent left round here), they've been pretty consistent with progs, specials and megs.  I've been picking up the specials because a) I wanted to cherry-pick this year as there were too many that I didn't have any interest in and b) I want to encourage them to stock the specials for casual readers.

Post does seem too be getting back to normal now that the Christmas / Covid chaos is dying down.

2213 here today. (North-east Hampshire.)

Looks like these problems are really localised, judging from a Twitter thread I saw earlier. Some people are just receiving their Radio Times Christmas edition (some getting it with the new issue). A journo noted he just got his mid-Dec Private Eye. One person noted they've had no mail at all for almost six weeks. I guess it must be down to capacity in your sorting offices and such.

Tangentially linked to the "Great Prog Drought 2020", I havent yet received my trade paperback as prize for the letter in 2212. Since such a thing is merely a cake icing on the pleasure of seeing it happen, I feel bad about mentioning it. I wonder how long it will take to arrive?

Xmas prog landed on NYE. The replacement progs (2211, 2212) I asked for a couple of weeks ago arrived today!! Happy to send these duplicates on to anyone who still can't get one, though I'm guessing the print run will be larger for the Xmas prog anyway.

In the end only Mega Mania and one other thing I ordered failed to land - Have to say both Rebellion Support and the other folks have been excellent when its come to support. I wanted to be as patient as possible as it wasn't down to them. In the end though when we all agreed it wouldn't land there was absolutely no hesistation in sorting it out and their customer service practice of keeping the customer warm and informed was superb.

Thanks Rebellion.

Curse you Royal Mail!

I got 2213 yesterday so I am completely up to date.

Aside from about three weeks where the post went a bit awry, the prog and meg has been on time, there or thereabouts, for me all year.

Given the challenging circumstances, this is an incredible achievement by Rebellion and, I should add, is greatly appreciated.

As if to highlight the randomness of Royal Mail right now (likely exacerbated in some regions—including mine—due to COVID cases), deliveries here have of late ranged from early to on-time. This week, we've not yet had The Phoenix, The Beano or 2000 AD.

Yep just as things seem to be getting back on their feet The Phoenix, which came Thursday last week - hasn't shown up and is unlikely to before Monday now I'd guess.

I have little hope for the treat that was a Saturday Prog anytime soon if ever again.

prior to the pandemic i am one of those old primitives who enjoyed picking up the latest prog, in person, from my tiny little local newsagent, partly out of support for a thrill-supporting little shop, and partly for the nostalgia of going through the motions of the same excited weekly ritual that eleven year old me partook in - in the days when i would spend the week just desperate to know whether harry 20 would actually succeed in his bid for freedom ...

being on the government shielded list since last march, and not actually allowed out of my tiny flat for much of that time, rebellion's keeping postage free for the prog and the meg was a beautiful thing that allowed the locked away to continue to source the prog. it was usually late, but it always got here in the end. bravo.

now, ordered back into shielding again, and rightly, i am still dependent on my weekly trip to the online shop. last year, the free shipping usually encouraged me to pick up a couple of other items (and willingly pay for their shipping) too. this year, without warning, but coinciding directly with a return to fearful enforced houseboundness for crocked folk like myself, the rather pricey shipping for the prog and the meg has been reinstated. i have no choice - i am not allowed out. but this timing is pretty bad by tharg. and what it means for rebellion is that i won't be (i won't be able) to pick up any more of their excellent exclusives, sale items and extras any more. i am not alone. it isn't very clever. there should have been a warning.

so this year's quarantine 3.0 will definitely have a thrill drought. disappointed. rigelian blasts all round.

No sign of 2213 still, though still a chance before it goes off sale - normal routine would be to go and buy it at the newsie across the road from work if it doesnt hit tomorrow, but I'm working from home, and local newsie are Grexnixes....

If it is free postage, I'll order a copy from the shop I suppose, but I don't like being without a prog - feels like bad luck!

I was a bit concerned to see this so checked and can confirm nothing has changed - the current print Prog and Meg continue to be exempt from P&P (if ordered within the first week (and first month) after publication).

This applies when they're ordered by themselves, if ordered with other physical products there will be a shipping charge but the Progs won't be part of that consideration.

Hope that sets your mind at rest.

I got 2214 yesterday and finally Christmas Prog 2212 today! Only because I paid over the odds on eBay for it! Subs refunded the issue and sent a link for the digital copy to me as they have none to send out, which was good service - can't control what happens once the Royal Mail get hold of it. Hopefully a one off as missed my Christmas Prog, port and mince pies!

Still no sign of 2211 or 2213 (or 2214) for me yet - 2212 arrived after New Year at least.  I'm just rolling with it for now and hoping the missing issues will eventually arrive and delivery is back to normal in a month or two (or six).  I know none of this is down to Rebellion, just a byproduct of the weird circumstances we're all living in at the mo.

Perhaps those are just the worst affected. Every area is going to have issues with staffing to some degree. It's pretty clear that Royal Mail is stacking large letters at the very least—only parcels delivered by van are going through reliably at normal speeds.

2213 showed up yesterday (2212 came just after New Year); still no 2211 or 2214 or 2215 but I'll give it a few weeks before bugging subs about it as it's down to the postal service and I imagine the issues are just floating around there somewhere.

Aquila came through a few days ago, luckily but we haven't had The Phoenix for weeks and the boys are getting a bit impatient about that; just one of those things and not exactly the end of the world (yet).

Oh that's interesting. The Phoenix is back on track and fine here. We got this weeks on Saturday rather than Friday but that's largely to do with the snow we got I imagine killing delievers on Thursday.

PROG 2199 I never got as well Judge Dredd megazine number 424.
Contacted Oliver the subs droid who passed my email on to his replacement.
PROG 2199 out of stock so was offered a digital copy and refund.
Judge Dredd megazine , got replacement copy.
Now prog 2211 has gone AWOL and looks like it is also out of stock.

It's not the customer service element I'm worried about, more the systemic problems there seems to be in getting large-envelope-printed-stuff through the post from the UK to Norway lately...  The Phoenix now seems to be getting through but I'm missing so many Progs and I don't know whether to assume they're lost or just held up somewhere, and that's not something customer service can assist with.  I don't want to hassle them for replacements when they might just turn up so I've held off up to know - if there's no sign of Prog life in a couple of weeks I'll see if anything can be done I guess.

I'll check my subs status but I'm fairly sure this isn't the problem - my annual sub didn't renew until early February (and I got the automatic email letting me know that payment had gone through okay).  I think it's just Brexit-related postal meltdown or something.  I'll give it another couple of weeks and then contact subs about whatever issues haven't made it through (the last four, pretty much).

I've no idea these days. In olden times, it depended on the publisher. If they'd pay to have things sent back, everything would be returned. If not, stores would tear off the covers from unsold issues and bin the rest.

UK to UK is also still very bad. It seems to specifically be a problem with 'large letter' post, for whatever reason. Parcels are rattling through the system OK as are normal letters. But mags are still showing up pretty randomly here. (Although they do at least always show up—so far.)

Bank Holidays do knock things out in that given week but I'd suggest normally that should be straight by now (having no idea about what's going on in the back ground).

Number of folks posting in the review threads suggest there isn't a wide spread problem? Are you just missing this weeks or is it also previous ones still outstanding?

I'm guessing it's not the case from the healthy looking review threads, but worth me checking: anyone else having issues with postal Progs this year? I know Covid is hitting a lot of services hard and our post here is really messed up, but it is filtering through Porgs aside.

My copy of 2262 never arrived (although the Subs team kindly sent me a replacement which did) and neither has my copy of 2263. 2264 hasn't rocked up either yet - that was only due this weekend but I'm getting a sinking feeling about it.
This is following the disappearance of 2250 too... normally the subscription delivery runs like clockwork but two in a row and three in thirteen has me wondering if there's a problem somewhere.

Mine's been mostly fine, but some other stuff has been random. One of mini-IP's Phoenix issues rocked up eight or nine days late. I suspect the entire postal service is still having problems.

Yeah generally my 2000ad's land - though occasionally late (by which I mean Wedneday or after) and one did go missing late year.

The bigger surprise was missing a Phoenix - which even at the height of Covid turned up like clockwork. Got a replacement no problem but things still seem a little sticky at the Post Office.

Phoenix has been wobbly here, but still the most reliable of the comics. I was deeply impressed when an issue didn't show up, though. I pinged them via DM on Twitter and a copy arrived the next day by guaranteed 24-hour shipping.

Thanks for the responses dudes. Sounds like it's probably Covid messing with post rather than anything sinister - weird that I'm getting some post and not others, but I suspect bulkier items are being prioritised.

All those who like me are still missing issues, hope they get resolved soon..!

I got a Instagram from my brother in Perth yesterday, he'd just received my Xmas card sent at the start of December, it was their 1st mail since mid December! oh that's Perth Scotland, an hour up the road, not OZ.

Mail has been fine in the East Lothian Wastelands...

Progs are the least of it, bank cards, medical appointments, so many things have been stuffed up. It was done in anger after complaining to the Royal Mail and getting a generic "we're doing our best in difficult times" response. Was impressed that one of her staff got back to me same day with a case ref. saying they have asked RM to investigate problems in my area. Nothing else yet, but if they know the MP's sniffing about they may just put another postie on our route.

The fact it is quiet here would suggest most peoples progs are back on track?

If I was more conspiratorially minded, I'd take the fact that the week after I slagged the progs for "never ending story" syndrome my prog turned up a week late and looking like it had been through Mek quakes guts as a sign of Thrg's displeasure.

Since then, my prog has been usually Tuesday and sometimes Wednesday - still no 2274 here.. just me?
Title: Re: Prog drought!

Mine is consistently a week late nowadays..it usually arrives the Friday following the Saturday it should have arrived (if that makes sense) although sometimes it's later.
I assume its not Rebellions fault, but it means I probably wont bother subscribing next year and will just buy locally. The webshop voucher is great, but it does lead.me to buy stuff I probably shouldn't.
Title: Re: Prog drought!

Title: Re: Prog drought!
Post by: Barrington Boots on 24 March, 2022, 09:04:12 AM
The post here has been absolutely shocking since Christmas - parcels are running ok, presumably because they take up space at the depot and need to be moved out quick, but letters and the like arrive generally a week or two after you'd expect them.
It's a symptom of the terrible decline of Royal Mail under the Tories and there's very little I can do about it, but it has made me re-evaluate a couple of things I'm subscribed to and cancel them, which is good I guess? I'll stick with the Prog subscription till it is due to expire and then see how I feel: I loved the little ritual of getting it in the post most Saturdays, but if it's going to arrive two days after it hits the shelves I can buy it in my local newsagent and means I can skip the odd week where there's nothing on I want to read.

Title: Re: Prog drought!

last week I got 3 progs and a meg on same day, plus various letters postmarked up to 10 days ago. Things got a bit better with the mail for a while after the MP got involved, but we're now back to a weekly bundle rather than daily post.
Title: Re: Prog drought!
Post by: Barrington Boots on 30 March, 2022, 05:09:26 PM
Pretty sure this isn't a Tharg issue as lots of other boarders are getting theirs on time.

The Prog does seem to be especially impacted by delays (my megazine from the 2000ad shop came immediately) but I'm convinced it's just local post being not fit for purpose. I know for a bloke in his 40s, getting a weekly comic on time is a very very petty thing to be annoyed over but so much of my life is relentless stress atm and this does hack me off. Nothing anyone can do though!
Title: Re: Prog drought!
Post by: IndigoPrime on 30 March, 2022, 05:16:51 PM
It has to be localised regional problems, with staff issues or other factors impacting on deliveries. Letterbox post here is still slightly wobbly, but far more reliable than it was during the early days of COVID. But there are times when mail has clearly been 'stacked' (the odd week where we suspiciously get ten items on a single day, after days of nothing). But the Prog is regular, usually showing up on a Monday. So this can't be a Tharg thing.
Title: Re: Prog drought!

No prog still

I;d think it was local, but my bills are all turning up like clockwork!

Possibly its not local but somewhere in the chain that all my other post doesnt encounter?

As I say, a more paranoid person would link the fact this all started after I slagged Tharg's recent output (the next prog I received as actually absolutely ground into pieces - wasnt even in a "sorry we have destroyed this post" bag! )

I suspect it's a localised issue but further up the chain than the local post office.

Yeah  not had anything since 2309. Made all the more frustrating as the boys Phoenix's are limping through okay is, a few days delay aside. Title: Re: Prog drought!
Post by: Barrington Boots on 08 December, 2022, 09:12:52 AM
It's 100% on Royal Mail. I had a chat with my postman yesterday about a missing parcel and mentioned the Prog - he told me that the current bosses of Royal Mail are not interested in letter delivery as there's no money in it, and they're having to prioritise parcels. Sounds like it's Royal Mails ultimate aim to move to a Hermes / Evri style model with the postmen being essentially self employed independent contractors getting paid 50p per parcel delivery of whatever they get.
Looks grim for our postal service. As to the missing progs, I'm sure they'll rock up eventually.

Here, even those are random now. Mini-IP got two on the same day. I've asked her to start keeping an eye on whether those and her Beanos are showing up, but, well, she's 8.

It's such a mess. Core infrastructure should never be sold off, and post is core infra. All the warnings at the time have come to pass. Royal Mail, not it's a for-profit entity with shareholders, wants to ditch the things that don't make it cash. Which leaves letter post where? (And given that all magazines sit in that space... bleh.)

Its a lovely gesture to offer the digi solution, so dont want to come across as an arse here, but I do think the strike is highlighting a problem with 2000ADs subs post that predates the Action ("Power to the People!")

I've had things slowed by the strikes for sure, and had a 10 day run without any post.  But I;
've had stuff sent and received with only a few days dealy at most, while prog 2310 is now 2 weeks late?

I do think theres some Zragian sorting office close to where the progs originate that has been slowing things for months of not years already, and I'd be interested if there is anything Tharg could look into once the dust settles.

I don't think this is rocket science. I would imagine bulk mailings by contract are handled differently, and likely at different sorting offices/distribution centres, to normal mail.

Yeah it's certain that the prog isnt just popped into the nearest post box, and it looks like whatever contract there is with RM for the prog has been put to the back of the queue - that said, I think that may well speak to the fact it wasnt getting prioritised very highly before the strikes.

Not Rebellion's fault.

After e-mailing the subs office, their response is basically that if we don't receive anything by Friday, then you should contact them henceforth in order to for any and all replacements to be sent in the post and in your hands by Christmas weekend(-ish).
[/quote]

Yesterday and today were strike days so I doubt anyone will have got anything by today. May wait till Monday.

(Ok that was meant to be a quote from up thread but you know what I mean!)

Post has come and gone this morning, no Progs, not really surprised.
I wouldn't say it's worth contacting the subs guys today: we subscribers are all in the same boat so they've obviously all been held up somewhere and presumably will turn up at some point. Once the bulk of people here start getting theirs I'd give it a day or two if nothing arrives and then get in touch with them about a possible replacement.

The strikes are 100% not Rebellion's fault and I'm fully supportive of what postal workers are having to do - although I can't ignore the fact that prog delivery has been shoddy and random all year when other periodicals don't seem to suffer in the same way.. Regardless, I'm ready for a big dose of thrill power when all of these finally drop.

This is were I'm at, doubt very much anything will arrive today, but don't fancy harassing the subs folks as its all seems to be too widespread to be anything about me missing Progs. I also doubt if we did get replacements dispatched today whether they'd arrive any better. I guess the fear is they 'sell out' of replacement stock?

Assuming they don't arrive I will miss my reading of the X-Mas Prog on X-Mas Day, but could always read my digital copies... won't be quite the same, but its fantastic the option is there.

A bit of me is tempted to source elsewhere and assuming they and my original subs copies arrive safely at some point pass any dups onto folks who've struggled to get them... in fact...

So it turns out Royal Mail are in cahoots with ebay. Arrive back today and both my sub Prog 2312 and my ebay back up 2312 landed at the same time. This is the second time this has happened, the same thing occurred with Prog 2310.

They are trying to cover their tricks as back up Prog 2311 landed today as well, a couple of days after sub 2311... but I mean it paper thin cover and I see right through it.

So anyway in summary have a full set of sub Progs and back up Progs now... so if after X-Mas folks are still short I have spares.

I'm now only missing 2312 (Christmas Prog).

This week 2310, 2311 and Meg 451 all appeared.

A word for Rebellion here....we've had the Covid mess and they never missed a beat, now we've had the strike chaos and us print subscribers have access to the digital editions....so I won't miss my Christmas Prog "fix".

This is my sentiment. I honestly think that something has gone wrong, badly wrong, with the subs and the postal strike is masking it. No other mail is a month overdue. And to miss one letter is unlucky. I am missing four (2310, 11, 12 and the Meg). That's not right. That's not a strike.

I've received today all my outstanding issues 2310, 2311, 2312 & the Meg.

Royal Mail have been delivering other mail in the days between the strikes just looks as though subscriber copies have been left till last. Others in my extended family are missing other subscriber magazines so it's not just Rebellion by the looks of it.

Hope this note may alleviate some peoples concerns on here.

I got 2312 two days ago.

I don't think it is Rebellion. I think it's just that some sorting offices are more badly affected than others, that's all. Dr X is just the conspiracy theory / worst case scenario opinion.
Title: Re: Prog drought!
Post by: Leigh S on 30 December, 2022, 11:03:17 AM
I dont think anyone is blaming Rebellion - if anythign, I worry for them when they get a tidall wave of requets for duplicate copies while the originals languish in some backwater sorting office untouched for weeks.

It;s possible RM have a way of identifying magazine subscriptions and have depriorotized those, though IP's Phoenix's dont appear to have been half as badly affected as the only other datapoint we have

Some have also got through, so it can't be a blanket decision taken near the source.

However, it's pretty frustrating that absolutely nothing has made it out to me after the best part of 5 weeks - In that time I've sent post 2nd class and it has taken a week or so to get through, so it does seem theres a specific issue with the prog for them to land in big chunks or not at all.

You say that, but I have had six deliveries refunded from Amazon sellers over the Xmas period, because all (thin books, dvds) failed to arrive despite being marked as "in transit" since late November. Four have had "Royal Mail tracking numbers"- which are next to useless, due to the post office website being... well, if you've used it, you'll know.

So it's not just magazines or subscriptions.

On the other hand, comics ordered from EBay have all arrived (and I buy a lot of comics), including one that got all confused when the wrong one was shipped to me by the seller, had to be sent back- along with my copy sent to another buyer- then sent again buy the seller to the correct buyers... which arrived in the time you'd expect normally.

It's just a backlog and hardworking posties trying their damnest to sort through it. I gave my continually-harassed postie a tenner as a Xmas gift the other day, which hopefully will help keep her onside and the mail flowing, and her away from bloody food banks for a few days.

2311 and the Christmas Prog have just landed so it looks like a bumper Thrill-fuelled new year at Kev Towers*

Cheers

We had items beyond 2000 AD take an age to arrive as well, although not quite as long as the Prog. It just is what it is, and it's clearly very random. For example, entirely unexpectedly, 2313 dropped here this morning.

My missing Progs all turned up together today. I still get the impression we aren't getting as much post as normal though.

Having read them all digitally I will probably just settle for a flick through looking at the art.

Got the Megazine this morning, but still missing the progs - If I was going to get one, that'a the one I resisted buying from the shop, so there is that!

But its weird that the Meg was the last of them to be released and the first to make it through.

Still waiting on the meg but the rest all arrived in dribs and drabs long after the original release date.  It's going to be manic for a while with all the back-log they'll be having to deal with.  Although it is possible that I might actually be waiting on neighbours due to the unfortunate naming convention on our estate with several roads being variations on a theme ...

Personally I'm still behind the posties 100%.  The owners of RM picked this fight with their ever-increasing demands, constant changes and erosion of conditions.  They'll no doubt use this to justify a further reduction from the original 6 day / universal service commitment, citing financial damage from the strike.  The main post office in town has now closed as they are unable to find a postmaster to run the place.  We're not exactly a small place so this doesn't auger well.

My Meg 451 arrived today so I'm up to date. I'm sure everyone will get theirs eventually.

I completely agree Tjm86 about the strike. None of this needs to be happening, but if you treat your workforce badly enough then they will strike.

I've been in Canada the last two weeks and when I left Scotland I hadn't had a prog delivered for a week or two. Wondering if I'll find any on the mat when I get home and what state they'll be in once I've unavoidably run them over with the front door.

Got home to find 2310 and 2311 waiting... it's a start...

Yep after all that Prog 2314 is that now rarest of things a Saturday Prog! What on earth us going on!?!

Need to find time to read it today now so as not to remove the glory of the once great tradition.

I'm just back from a week away. Lots of post, but no progs! I'll have to give up on 2310 I think, and source elsewhere, but is anyone still waiting for 2312 (Xmas prog)? Should i hold out longer? (Strangely, 2311 turned up before Xmas.)

Prog is pretty much up to date at the moment but I'm trying to decide how much longer to wait before picking up the Meg from Smiths (or contacting subs ...) since there is still no sign of it.  :-(

Woohoo! The Xmas prog has arrived at last! And the one after it! That's me finally up to date (obviously no sign of this week's, but I wouldn't expect that normally anyway).

Either the Rigellian hotshot has worn off or Tharg has put me back on the naughty list, but thats a Tuesday Prog last week and only a hope for a Wednesday prog this week - it was nice while it lasted!
Title: Re: Prog drought!

The Rigellian effect has definitely worn off here.. after the optimism of a couple of Saturdays the slide began - Tuesday, Wednesday and now this the postie has been and gone and no Prog today so it's Thursday at the earliest.
It's at the point where I don't even expect it till Wednesday, which is pretty rubbish.

Due to 20+ years of postal damage whenever I tried to subscribe and random out of stocks on the website I have shifted from ordering from the website every three months to going to Smiths.

I can get there every two weeks so pick up every other 2000ad and every meg, making up the balance every three months from the website.  I would like to go every week, but it is not viable.

I wouldn't have depended upon a subscription for at least 20 years - even though I did try again a couple of years ago and it failed because of the damage - because of the way Royal Mail handles things, but now the service has deteriorated as well and there are strange print runs that mean random copies of 2000ad/Meg go out of stock.

My advice would be to get them physical if you can and if not reserve it from a newsagent.  If that is even possible as that was an 80s thing with the newsagent's mark.

I have a full collection and the anxiety of missing an issue and not knowing if I will get it on ebay or a damaged one I can't replace is more grief than going out to get it myself.  Which happened with Meg 440 for some reason.

I subscribe for the freebies and the discount really, though ahvng to buy copies when the sib doesnt turn up is eating most if not all of any discount

No prog by Friday here, which would suggest we are back into the Strike service, but as far as I can tell, there hasnt been anotehr strike in Feb? The RM website says they ahd to call off the one they had planned?

Whatever Tharg did a3 or 4 weeks ago, do that again!

Well I had to wait a while for the first new size meg.  When the next one turned up I got in touch with the subs team who sorted it out in a heartbeat.  This is the second time I've had to do this because Royal Fail are about as good at delivery as the Tories.  Every time the team have sorted it out with impressive efficiency.
