Still loving Judge Dredd, but for some reason ABC Warriors and Strontium Dog are losing me. Sweet doing nothing for me at all. Although I'm really getting drawn into Grey Area...

Strontium Dog and ABC Warriors is pretty good, but I'm all about Judge Dredd: Titan. I know it's early days but I think it has the makings of a classic.

I really ain't sure that Judge Death could work in these movies. I could be wrong (and I frequently am) but Dredd had such a realistic tone to it that suddenly bringing undead beasties from another dimension into things - I don't see how they could make it work. I'm saying nothing new here. You've heard this from me before.

Having said that I would love to see 2000AD/Rebellion venture into direct to DVD animated films. Some of the DC Universe ones are absolutely wonderful. That would be a great medium to introduce everyone's favourite undead Judge.

As for a movie sequel, we need it on the actual streets of Mega City One. The society, the justice system... all this would be perfect ground for the sequel to explore. Something along the general lines of The Day The Law Died (although the acute satire of that one might need to be toned down).

Agreed. Strong prog. Nice new Judge Dredd story from the looks of it and it's great to see ABC Warriors and Strontium Dog back. This is REAL 2000AD. Seriously. That's the shit right there.

I'll probably re-read this a bit later. Very strong start to 2014. Let's hope the Meg starts off on an equally strong footing.

I've got all four issues of this now. Will have to sit down and have a proper read at some point.

Thank you Indigoprime! When I'm up to date on Stony Face's complete case files this is where I will go next!

I seem to have missed out on a lot of Strontium Dog. I wish to catch up though. Where would be a good place to start? Can you get the Judge Dredd Complete Case File style phonebooks?

the most important character in Judge Dredd, arguably as important as Dredd himself, is Mega City One - as the first film had to be constrained to one block, I'd dearly hope they'd include more city stuff - weird crazes, unhinged cits, future sports etc.

Agree. If there is ONE thing I could have in the sequel it's more of Mega City One. I loved how Mega City One was depicted in the movie.

I enjoyed the issue as a whole. Pretty much dug all the stories. The Judge Dredd one (like mentioned before) was a bit... confusing in why he put that dude away at the end. But it's nice to see the return of Sinister Dexter and I am VERY pleased to see the return of Strontium Dog. He hasn't really been in it since I started reading again back in January 2013 - so I'm very excited about this new epic.

I'll come in with more detailed thoughts later when I've read it again.

Cover - It's well drawn but not my cup of tea. I find the face annoying to look at and it blocks too much of the logo - especially for a jumping on prog.

Dredd. I quite liked this although it could have done with a little more action. It's a good set up and Joyce and Catarina are both characters I'm looking forward to seeing more from. The art's pretty good but the Lawmasters are a bit scooter like.

Damnation Station. I found this boring. The art was nice but who are these characters and why should I care about them? Just a load of exposition delivered via a tired talk show format. There was (presumably) some humour written in French and Spanish which I didn't understand.

Flesh. Another boring strip with characters I have no reason to care about. The art is good but the thick black lines make it look ugly. I wish the artist would use a finer pen.

Brass Sun. Yep, you've guessed it, another boring one. Again I don't care about the characters. I just feel like I've seen it all before. I've never thought that characterisation was Edington's strong suit but it's less of a problem on an action strip like Red Seas. On something that's so dialogue heavy and (supposed to be) full of intrigue like Brass Sun it just makes the whole thing such a chore.

Aquila returns next week and I'm a big fan of that so it should help this run of strips pass as painlessly as possible.

I don't usually sound so negative when reviewing the prog but this is a really bad run of strips for me. I think for a jumping on prog it's seriously lacking in 'wow' moments and, for a Sci-Fi, action anthology any sense of action or great Sci Fi ideas (other than Brass Sun's solar system). If I'd picked this up as a new reader I'd probably not come back.

This.

Film Discussion / Re: Dredd Soundtrack - Official
11 September, 2013, 12:31:18 PM
When I'm relaxing with one of the complete case files books, I listen to the soundtrack to the old Stallone movie, and follow that up with this soundtrack and play both in a loop over and over whilst I'm reading. Adds to the experience.

As crap as the Stallone film is the soundtrack is half decent. Got decent tracks by The Cure, The The, and The Concteau Twins, and the selections from Alan Silvestri's orchestral score are quite epic. Enjoyable stuff there.

Judge Dredd. Nice ending. I'd like to see Bender become a big villain in future.

Age Of The Wolf III. Glad this one's over. It's just never grabbed me.

The Ten Seconders I really got into this at the start but kind of lost my way with it. I may go back to the beginning and read it all again.

Slaine. Couldn't follow it. Just couldn't follow it. Gonna look out for that graphic novel though in November. That may just be a must read.

Looking forward to the jumping on issue!

OK, I've seen the first three episodes now. Not overly impressed so far - but it's early days so I'm willing to stick with this and see where it goes.
