Classifieds / Ebay pimpage
11 September, 2010, 06:22:38 PM
I can't remember if the board rules allow us to pimp ebay stuff any more, but there's some stuff here that might be of interest to someone.

http://shop.ebay.co.uk/eraserhead1972/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p4340

If any boarders win any of these items, I could always throw in a free 2000ad character sketch of your choosing. (if you don't like my work, then you can always request that I don't send you a sketch!).

Cheers,

Chris.

Was it called Shok? The Kev O'Neill illustrated strip with the killer robot, brought back from the Cursed Earth. I thought I'd be able to find this in my back progs easy, or reprinted somewhere - it must have been reprinted at least about 5 times over the years - but I don't know where to start. Can someone point me in the right direction, or post a scan of a page or two.

Cheers,

Chris.

I've got a 10 page small press strip that needs lettering and I'm useless. Can't get my head round it. I'd be eternally grateful if anyone out there would do the job for me.

Please?

General / Droid Life poster for subscribers
20 November, 2009, 12:29:21 PM
As a monthly subscriber, got my Droid Life poster in the mail this morning. A nice surprise, even if Tharg has only done it to sweeten the blow of the price increases. Shame it couldn't have been a mug or T-shirt, but there you go. Don't want to seem ungrateful.

Anyway, I'll probably never stick it up on the wall, so if any non-subscriber wants it then I'm happy to post it on to someone else. Just let me know.

Off Topic / Name the celebrity
13 September, 2009, 09:18:08 PM
I've got to draw a certain celebrity to accompany a magazine article, and drawing a good likeness has always been a major problem for me. So here you go. I'm using the board as a testing ground. Can you tell me the name of the celebrity below (the image is still at rough stage). If enough people can tell who it is I'll at least know I'm moving in the right direction. And if no-one can tell, then I know I've shot it!

General / ABC Warriors - Meknificent Seven
01 August, 2009, 10:59:34 AM
I've been looking to buy a copy of The Meknificent Seven off t' internet but i'm a bit confused as to which copy i need. There seems to be two copies (maybe more) one of which has an image of each of the warriors heads, and one that has an action pose of Hammerstein by Kev Walker. Can anyone shed any light on which of these is the most recent / best to buy? Amazon seems a bit vague on the subject, and the image they show in the description isn't always the correct one. I'm sure there was some talk recently of a re-issue?

Cheers,

Chris.

Off Topic / Something different for Christmas?
03 December, 2008, 10:34:09 PM
Christmas present ideas for the sci-fi/comics/gaming fan/etc.

Around the £10 region.

I'm quite fond of the Mighty Muggs figures.

Anyone else with any original ideas?

Books & Comics / Daredevil fans in the house?
20 September, 2008, 06:33:21 PM
I was always quite fond of the mid/late 80's run on Daredevil, with Nocenti writing and John Romita Jr artwork, but have no idea whether they've stood the test of time. I'm about to re-read them now anyway, so I'll soon find out. I have recently gone back and read the Frank Miller runs, which vary in quality but set a nice tone for the series. And I thought I'd have a bit of a dabble with the Dennis O'Neill issues which came after Miller's first run, but discovered them to be pretty poor.

Anyway, what i wanted to know is, are there any decent runs after the Nocenti/JRjr run? Are Fall Of The Kingpin or Fall From Grace worth buying? And are they're any other standout issues? I'm strictly talking about the first volume here, as trade collections are few and far between, unlike the second volume which seems to be collected in entirety.

Off Topic / Digital camera advice
28 September, 2007, 11:56:36 AM
I'm looking for a new camera for the wife's birthday, and wondered if anyone knew much about this from Argos. It's only needed for the odd holiday snaps and general use, and the price for this seems spot on, especially as she's after an ultra-slim model.

Any advice?

Off Topic / Any decent free anti-virus software?
16 July, 2007, 10:37:58 PM
The anti virus software that i picked up off ebay a few months ago has suddenly packed in and appears to be not quite the authentic deal! Is there anything i can download off the net to keep me going til i get it sorted out?

Wondered if anyone could name this track or perhaps even tell me where i can get hold of it. I heard it in a dingy little club back in my student days about ten years ago and it was quite fun. I think i managed to download it off Kazaa a few years ago, but have since mislaid it. It was basically the imperial march, set to a big beat backing track overlaid with lots of Darth Vader sampled speach. Much better than it sounds from that description. It was around the same time as the Chemical Bros / Propellerheads / Prodigy explosion.

Anyone got the last three months issues of Comics International?

If so, can you check the small press reviews and see if there is any mention of Sponge #3. I haven't had chance to get down my local comic shop in ages, so if they printed a review, I've missed it.

And if they didn't review it they're bastards.

Cheers.

General / 2000ad parodies
15 August, 2004, 06:24:09 AM
Don't know if this subject has been touched on before, but I thought it would be interesting to see evidence of other comics which have parodied or used the image of 2000ad characters in the past.
This is a page from Battle Angel Alita published by Viz comics in about 1992. No prizes for guessing which manga-ised tooth character this is modelled after.
I remember also an Alan Davis issue of Excalibur, featuring an alternate futuristic earth policed by a very Dredd-like female law enforcer.

General / has Tharg lost it?
28 March, 2004, 03:19:24 AM
No prog last week and this week it's already in the shops, FOUR days early! What's going on? Is the pressure of the job finally getting to The Mighty One?

General / prog 121
13 January, 2004, 05:42:47 AM
While rereading some old progs I came across the Dredd story in prog 121,which is a rather touching tale of a young orphan - Ralphy Bryce -  who idolises Dredd and is badly beaten by some perps, after which Dredd takes a personal interest in his life and enrolls the kid in the academy of law. Anyway, it all ends in disaster and young Ralphy is eventually expelled from the academy, but the story ends on the note that Dredd becomes like a father to the kid, visiting him on a regular basis in his new foster home.

I just wondered if young Ralphy ever made an appearance after this, as I don't recall it myself. The story is actually being told by Walter down at the local laundro-mat, so could be put down to an over-sentimentalised account of something that may never have even happened, I guess.

I thought it would be nice to see some kind of follow up story though, as Ralphy would be 30 or so by now...

General / what do you do on Sunday?
15 December, 2003, 06:58:20 AM
Every Sunday I seem to get absolutely bugger all done. I've spent most of today trying to work on a 4 page strip which seems to have taken months, and still looks crap despite several re-workings. My baby daughter seems to be developing yet another nursery related illness. And I've managed to piss my girlfriend off throughout most of the day by complaining about the wretchedness of my life. I've noticed that this pretty much sums up every Sunday for as far back as I now remember. Anyone out there have really good sundays?

General / Fighting Fantasy

Good to see the old FF books are back in print. I spent many a late night in my youth tossing dice beneath the bed sheets.

No really, I was tossing dice.
