Based on strip art only - Greg Staples and Alex Ronald would be in there, otherwise. Length of service and frequency of appearance are also taken into consideration, or I'd have been tempted to sneak Leonardo Manco in there, alongside the great Mike Dowling and former regular Ben Willsher, who seems to have dropped off the end of Tharg's Rolodex in recent times.
5 to 10 could be in any order, really. Cheating at the end with the doublers - didn't want to push that too far, or Trevallion, Goddard and Richardson would be in there at 8, 7 and 6, too. Anguished for ages about Culbard - initially had him higher, but he fell down the ranking due to the length of service criterion. Current artists only, which I'm defining as having a strip in Prog or Meg every year for the last three years.

So there we have it. Dredd 'Control' ends and if I'm honest I'm a little disappointed. The ideas were excecuted well. The events that were used to carry them a little hackneyed for me. Shame as this has been a great story and I really liked what it was aiming at. Have to say happy that [spoiler]Maitland's alive[/spoiler].
Indigo Prime however is glorious and is the kind of story that gets away with 'The human Fingerbob' by the force of shear creative brilliance and glorious realisation. Ending exciting too!
Always happy with Sinister Dexter and this is a nice intro. Just also say I didn't like how John Charles coloured the Might Yeowell's last time here I think its a complete trimuph! It really evoked the painted stuff Steve Yeowell did back in the late 80s.
If I'm being picky the Future Shock makes a great Terror Tale as the shock ain't all that shocky but the terror is certainly in the tale. Shouldn't really get too hung up on that as its a good story. I'm intrigued how folks will react to the art in this one. 2000ad fans can suprise by how conservative (small c) they can be in their art tastes and I see this could be an issue here. Me I loved it thought is was sharp striking. Loved the bold colours.
Jaegir didn't really move us on too much, just kept the same things going effectively enough.
Decent Prog if not quite up the standard of late.

my thoughts
( 1 ) Dredd - Control - a good story , and it was enjoyable - well worth reading 4/5
( 2 ) Indigo Prime - not too bad , this is a story that you have to really concentrate
and use the back progs to work out what's going on ...on occasion 3/5
( 3 ) Sinister Dexter - First rate - I think the reason this story does so well is that it
doesn't come out too often ( like Jaegir ) and its fresh and original ( art work is great ) 4/5
( 4 ) Future Shock - well written , nice art work and a good , original story 4/5
and
( 5 ) Jaegir - this second part of the story was very good - its building to a nice climax
with hints of the Parachute Raid on Los Baños in 1945 , about it ,
for me Gordon Rennie is on top form here .
As ever the artwork is just glorious from Mr Coleby - he delivers every time
I am glad I bought a ' Jaegir ' page from him back in Feb 2017 - best £ 60 ever spent
anyway for me ( I am a fan boy , I admit it ) 5/5
overall , a good , solid and enjoyable prog 4/5 in total
Great cover, but the text could have been dropped a bit, why the jaunty angle?
Dredd: Nice use of Rad-rats and good to see old Stoney-Pus as dogged as ever, art great and happy to see those last two panels :thumbsup:
IP: lots of nice refs in here, not too sure about the Fingerbobs...
Sin/Dex, more of the same as previous tales so far, liking the colour use, adds to the feel
Future shock: enjoyed that, I think the SPLUTTCH panel should have been flipped left to right to make it flow better.
Jaegir: Great to see some hardwear on Nu Earth, Colby does it so well. Didnt The Grennie droid use Kashan flying troops to attack a train on the Rogue Trooper xbox game, or am I miss remembering again matron? great tip of the helm to continuity if it is.

Arcana's Fingerbobs line was funny, as was the headflick. While the idea of Burroughs Staypufting it through Docklands is entertaining*, JG Ballard is probably a metafiction too far.
Unless the closing credits of Indigo Prime feature Allen Ginsberg showing up at Robert Anton Wilson's apartment and announcing that he's putting a team together.

My general feelings on current Indigo Prime mirror Tordelback's but, while I don't like it one bit, this is a level of cross-media, meta-fictional, reality-hopping I can admire.

It was relative good prog not so fond of the Future Shock. Great stuff from both Dredd and Jaegir.
So while I thought Jaegir was Top Thrill (Rennie is the solid bedrock of the comic these days, his strips are now consistently excellent week after week), I actually thought the Dredd wrapped really well.
Even though it was Maitland's bullet that knackered the Mechanismo, leading to Dredd's escape, it was the grit of the man himself that got him out of there. I also liked that Pin didn't stick around (although we didn't see her die...). Unless she had/was developing some sort of Dark Judges connection, I think her story was done.
And dear sweet Grud the art! I can't believe no-one has done the noose badge-chain thing with Death before, it's inspired. That corpse-pit will take sons beating too. Weston is a treasure.
Very good news that Thistlebone is coming back. It worked great as a one-off, but I'd love to see more.

A satisfyingly squalid denouement to 'Control', I thought - kudos to all involved. Admittedly I wasn't quite sure what was happening when the charnel pit opened up - was it an empty subterranean space, the roof of which the sinking Mechanismo droid caused to collapse? If it was just a filled pit, where did all the mud go? Also, I got the impression from earlier installments (and previous chapters of the arc) that Pin's lair was underground, but here it was raining, or was that water running in from a ceiling? Anyway, the 'dark side' of Smiley's ghost was a nice touch - it took a moment before I realised why it was there!
IP seems to be pulling out a lot of tricks, but to me it just seems like it's trying too hard, and Kek-W should concentrate on refining his characters and storytelling rather than on each page simply unveiling yet another contrived new idea. Contrast that with the simple yet elegant style of Dan Abnett in this week's Sin/Dex, where his narrative flow is like a sweeping river winding smoothly across a lush plain. John Charles' colours are, I agree, absolutely glorious and the perfect complement to Steve Yeowell's art.
I quite liked the Future Shock, nothing revelatory but a nice twist (shame about that cheesy last line though) and Liana Kangas' vibrant art was a treat.
Jaegir was as magnificent as ever. I can cope with short 6-week bursts as long as they keep coming this frequently.
So Thistlebone is on its way back, then. That at least explains why the end of what turned out to be the first chapter wasn't especially rewarding.

Great prog this week. I was expecting things to worsen once the excellent Thistlebone and Absalom were replaced, but Jaegir and Sin Dex are so far worthy replacements.
Pin's fate feels both just and apt. I would like next prog's Dredd to focus on the huge ramifications to the SJS division that these events would undoubtedly have, but of course Dredd will be back to full health and on a new adventure, probably a one-off by a different author, and any Pin-related fallout will be quietly forgotten until the next time Rob Williams pens Dredd. Gah!
So stoked Thistlebone is coming back!
I wonder how Tharg will fill the "spare place" for the following 4 progs until 2150? Will it be 4 more Future Shocks or will be get a 3riller?

I thought that was very cool and wondered why I'd never noticed it on Death before, I suppose because nobody has drawn it! The artwork throughout Control has been fantastic and a real treat.
A good prog, highlights for me being Dredd and Jaegir.
I felt the last
Dredd page ended things a bit abruptly but other than that was excellent, I even felt a pang of sadness for Pin. As awful as the things she's done are a really good job was done of digging into your mind and where it all went wrong for her and I genuinely had some sympathy her when she met her final awful fate. Maybe I'm mad!
I could just read and read and read
Jaegir stories because that Rogue Trooper universe is so dang cool and it takes it in such a great direction and the artwork is incredible...brilliant.
Was pretty happy to see
Sin/Dex back, they're always welcome in my prog and the artwork looked really nice. Not sure how much of it is down to the colouring or if Yeowell has changed up his style a bit but it looks grand.
I have no idea what's going on in
Indigo Prime and haven't for a while, but I'm still somehow quite enjoying it because all the madness leads to some great imagery and the art more than rises to it.
The
Future Shock was okay, I thought the set-up was more interesting than the ending but I definitely didn't dislike it, and do agree that it felt more like a Terror Tale. Quite liked the art and wouldn't mind seeing more of that.
I even read the letters this week which I haven't done for a while! Not sure why I've been skipping them, I do enjoy them and this week they were decent.

The Input page says a 3riller.
Let down by the Dredd ending, that may be a lack of invention compared to the high standards set by Williams normally. His toughness got him through. And a bed-ridden Dredd gets rebuilt again a la Steve Austin.
Future-Shock was good, these often tie themselves in knots (well me anyway), this was breezy and worked well.
Jaegir was grim and great as ever, SinDex an accessible first part.
IP's contrivances and art aren't for me.

Actually, I thought the art duties on Dredd have been very nicely executed for this little run. All that rain and mud this prog really came across well! Nice story too, although I was a bit worried it felt like wrapping up an era. Please don't leave us, script droid!
And what about Jaegir? It's a bit good, isn't it? Roll on the collected second book, I say.
Overall, I was pretty happy with this prog, a good mix just like an anthology should be. Let's keep reserving a slot or two for new or developing talent though and give them a bit of space to develop. Erm, which we seem to be doing, so that's fine. ;)

There are 99 helmets in that first panel - I liked Pin as a Psycho murdering the odd colleague, but how could they not notice slaughter on that scale?
She has been active since Chaos Day and the department looses Judges on a regular basis. So loosing a Judge is normal and just another stats

Well put, while I'm obviously super happy when the prog is thrilling me cover to cover I'm very happy for a strip or two to not necessarily blow my mind because it's nice to see how those creators develop and it's great to see them get the chance to. It's part of what makes 2000AD great and long may it continue.

Yeah, it would be good to get a followup story digging back into Pin's activity and the imperfections within SJS, there's obviously a space between the Dept and the SJS where Judges can disappear without PSU seeing.
Hell, link it into Smiley, the secret Ninja judges in the walls and the plot to get Hershey out by feeding her alien germs (what, you didn't know about that?) and it could bring down the Justice Dept!

We always read the story out the perspective of Dredd and the perp not Justice Department. Pin also know how the department operates. She knew how to get away with it without being noticed. Surely they have personal who investigate the disappearances of Judges.
Lots of dead Judges found with missing helmets.
Given Judge Patsy's abilities to process data, s/he should have seen the pattern :o
Considering just how many times an SJS officer has gone crazy/abused their power, isn't it time the SJS themselves were investigated?

I thought it was a poor end to the story, too abrupt, hopefully some follow up before too long. But also a sad ending for a pretty good/interesting character. I think Dredds world works best when there are other characters he interacts with.
