Suggestions / COVID Face Masks
22 July, 2020, 10:53:16 AM
Is it wrong of me to want an official face mask?

Or a full set?

Plain black, fitted mask, with a small judge shield, or full bleed artwork of Judge Fear's grill? Or just the 2000ad swoosh?

Or am I missing something from the shop?

General / iOS App Battery Shaming
01 October, 2014, 10:43:32 PM
Noticed a bit of a drain on the old iPad this evening, so launched the battery usage app. I read one Prog and the movie spin off in the Meg, and I used 64% of my battery?

Ios 8.0.2 iPad 2.

Thargs editorial in this weeks 2kad, suggests that a long time character is going to die in the next 18 months, please let it be Joe, please.

General / I'm in love with David Bishop
04 April, 2002, 06:31:43 AM
For years now, I've leered at that little baldy bloke taking digs at all fair targets, in his bile filled slot in comics international, usually it's the first bit I turn to,  and if I'm feeling a little masochistic, I might read it twice.

But now that I've heard his lilting antipodean accent on the cover CD, I've changed my mind, he can be my best mate any day!

Scojo, don't be jelous now, I'll pay for sooshies college fees!

Off Topic / NOW you wish you had a 2kad beanie!
04 February, 2002, 08:49:33 PM
it's the rain I suppose, but I have a question, how do you wear your beanie, the logo to the front, inside out, jauntily to one side, facing the rear? (thats the back of your head, not actually your rear!

General / Anyone watching Smallville?
10 January, 2002, 06:22:55 AM
Tonights episode was a little better than the first 2/3  episodes. the baddie was more belvible, however the pure abundence of kryptonite in smallville seems a little over the top! I enjoy the Lex/Clark relationship, belivible so far.

but now harking back to a favorite topic of mine, but how Dredd needs to be altered for other mediums, film, anime, Dredd-on-ice, etc, this version of superman, is very different from any other form that we see Clark normally in, the DC comics go from strength to streangth, still their major character for over 60 years, yet the strength of the character that they own is his versitility for being rewritten, revamped, as necesary to keep a 60 year old character fresh, the comic has changed in the short 20 odd years i've been reading comics (you can see it with Flesh in the meg) but they are dated, the comic continues to bring in new readers for those older readers who are 'natural wastage' so to speak.

Heres a suggestion though, how about some dredd stories out of continuity1

well mate, dont all those nods to Helter skelter scare ya! I think SH will be the introduction of a new character to MC1, by means of said Helter Skelter, that will kill the old joe and leave clone boyu in his place!

General / I got a 2000AD 'beanie' hat today
12 December, 2001, 09:08:38 PM
As always my girlfriend has exceeded all hopes and renewed my subscription as a christmas present (some problems have meant I've been receving two copies of everthing so far though!)and through the letter box is am, a thrill containment unit (well it keeps the heat in)

however, upon walking into work, a collegue asked me when I was going to buy a new hat, instead of one from 2 years ago (ie the millenium) I began to explain, and then came to the shock conclusion that 2000AD HAS TO CHANGE IT'S NAME, I cannot be accused, in the fashion sense of being BEHIND THE TIMES, this is not on.

Even if it's just for me, please change the title. Thank you.

Prog / This weeks Future shock
27 November, 2001, 05:44:05 PM
I must congratulate the bros. G, for their effort, the pace of the story was good, the art was nice and simple, and the twist, sorry the twist was seen coming from the moment the aliens appeared at the door, saying that though I enjoyed the whole thing and look forward to your next piece.

what constructively can you take from this, like I said above from the moement the aliens said they'd be back I knew they were going to charge a very high price. The rhyming couplets seemed forced in some places and didn't trip off the tounge so easily, you mention Alan Moore in you background on this site, check out Alan Grants The Deamon for great rhyming tricks.

keep up the good work!

Off Topic / I'm just back from holiday...
19 November, 2001, 04:03:48 PM
my twice annual trip to see the Parents, who have been generously storing a lot of my comics for the last 8 years. It started with a Tea-Chest full, about 700mmsquare by 1.5m deep, which on every trip I've been emptying enough (about 30 comics) to carry home on the plane, this summer though they experienced a bad leak, and the smell of must and damp on the comics was awfull, so I took the largest case I could find in the house and filled it with all my back issues of The Megazine, and they now sit comfortably on my shelf, going through them though I seem to only have the specials starting at number 5, none of the free gifts and the posters seem to be missing too, but from tomorrow I'm going to re-read the lot, but my girlfriend is looking forward to all the old Andersons she hasn't read yet!

General / Thargs responses to this weeks letters
16 November, 2001, 05:27:47 PM
In particular I refer to his response to the last letter about comics in general. I understand that many of the readers of 2kad do not read the numerous issues from the american market, many of those same readers bemoan the fact that these larger orginasations 'stole' many of the greatest artists and writers from these pages, this is no reason to dismiss those fans that do regularly read stocking clad superheroes from far flung shores, superman and batman pre date many of the british style comics by years (well five at least), many of the 'pulp' heroes have become defunt in the US and yet the brits still continue to pour these out week after week, Dredd is after all a sci-fi pulp hero(anti-hero), I cant knock one system or the other and do not appreciate it when the editor of one of my favorite magazines does, how insulting of the green bonced one!

How sweet of the bloke to write such a nice letter to the industry, four years? is that all, I hope the pastures new he talks about include a lot more than writing pieces for this mag, best of luck to him, and his replacement, which mark is this?

Suggestions / authors for 2000ad novels
26 October, 2001, 10:13:37 PM
David Brin
Greg Bear
Kevin Anderson

all have done sterling work in writing additonal novels in other authors universes recently, Bear and Brin did some good prequells to Asimov's Foundation series, and Anderson does fantastic Star Wars books and has co-written the recent prequells to Herbert's Dune series.

others I would like to see, Ben Bova, Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett (he would do a great Banzai Batallion, and anything to get him away from the dire discworld stuff)

oh oh Jeff Noon - check out his vurt, pollen and autonmated alice books

or how about Ian Rankin for a good crime story (brit cit judges)

Peter Carey for a chopper in OZ story !!

Phillip Jose Farmer for a true helter skelter story

and if you could bring a couple back from the dead, Edgar Rice Burroughs for a slaine novel

oh oh Marion Zimmer Bradley for a slaine novel

William Burroughs for a real dope story (sorry Gordon)

Christoper Tolkein for any good fantasy stories (what he's done with his dad's work is fantastic)

oh I can keep this up for ages

Other Reviews / Charlie Adlards DC/WS The Establishment
26 October, 2001, 09:58:54 PM
if anyone liked Charlies run on Dante, check out the first two issues of this comic, it's so good to see british superheroes, Zenith must be the last superhero we've had, I can't think of any from 2kad, anyone?

General / This weeks cover
16 October, 2001, 09:49:53 PM
Salmon, where has he been? This cover has to be a favorite for the future. Anyone who cares to ask me (go on ask, please, please) will tell you I'm a big Batman fan, and my favorite works of batman have been the animated adventures, which span off the cartoon series, and then superman, and now JLA 'adventures' style cartoons, there has been many suggestions over the years for a dredd cartoon, and Salmon gets my vote for being the stylist/artist for the series, based solely on this cover. go on  you know it's a better idea than another movie!
