Ho there
Just wondering if anyone had read the Dredd Story "Fire and Brimstone" that's on the web? I can't point you to the site or anything (laziness you see) but it's easy enough to find. No idea who wrote it but it was helluva good.

Anyway

To be honest, Scojo's screenplay sucked a bit. It was too run-of-the-mill, too much Dredd muttering to himself (which he does in the comic, but it doesn't work well in a screenplay) and the grammar kind of put me off (or lack of it).
Sorry man, try again. You can only learn from your mistakes, young padawan.

I agree about the language, it doesn't really seem right especially in Atavar, where he just went "SHIT!" every time anything of any minor surprise happened. If he said "Hot damn" or something it still sould have made the point. To be honest it was a pretty bad series so who gives a sh*t? Its acceptable in 13 so long as it's used with a bit of taste and cockney charm (if such a thing exists).
Words are just words, but Atavar was poo.

Ho, tis the doc here.
Just wondering what kind of opinions people had on this new series 13. In fact, what do people think of that and this Bec and Kawl thing? Now i know it's only been one episode so far (bec and Kawl) but frankly I couldn't bear to read it. I mean, putting "like" between every first and second word of a sentence is bad enough, but the whole thing just seems to be trying to do a cliche in a kind of, like, in the 2000ad stylee. TO be honest I think it fails miserably and I somehow seeing it turn slowly into the reincarnation of RAM Raiders...
As for 13, I was quite impressed. Good art, interesting plot, although the main characters dialogue was somewhat steretypical.
And I hang my head in shame for thinking Sin City was going to be the Frank Miller thing.
The new Dredd story's going pretty well I think, on that note. However I am sorely disappointed with Kev Walkers art. It still has it's own style and flair but for fucks sake, is it anything compared to the art on ABC Warriors (the Hellbringer story comes to mind). Imagine that kind of work on Dredd... it would be enough to make a grown man cry some happy tears.

Post your views, peoples.

Who cares? Whoever you choose will probably be killed by a robot or something quite soon, or whenever Garth Ennis next writes a Dredd story.

Preacher was good but LEAVE MY DREDDY ALONE!

Oh yeah, and that bearded guy in "Janus Psi", the one who got blown in half, he was cool. Before the blowing in half thing happened.

Mine is a total lie. I'm not even sure being a doctor of love is possible in this day and age. And love is certainly not my speciality.
But it sounds cool when you say it in a Barry White voice.

"Diavolo" was a good Dante one. Often mumbled as something big appears on the horizon and yells "We are da imperial gunship" or some such.

Thank you loyal followers of the right and true way of WAG-NOR.
Ennis might be good at stuff like Preacher, and he might be British too, but I just don't hack his Dredd stuff.
At least WAG-NOR does his genocide with some integrity and ingenuity.

I know where Garth Ennis gets his ideas from.
His arse, that's where.
"Hmmm.. a story where all of Judge Dredds enemies gang up on him and... what else can happen? I know, I'll have 'em wipe out most of Mega city 1's senior Judges and show just how incompetent Judges really are, before Dredd shows up and pops off all the baddies."
Ennis, you're a star.

Preacher i sindeed one hell of a good read, although some of the characters really do take a gut wrenching pasting just a bit too often (Cassidy being the prime example). Some of it made me cringe but even so the story kept me hooked.
THe mid-early Spawns kick ass, around issues 20-50 or so. All available in GN format (the brit versions have more episodes per book, but the yank ones have pretty new pictures 'pon  the covers.) Highly recommended to anyone, anywhere, anyhow. As with preacher though, the main character gets hammered a lot ( and manages to walk around with no lungs quite often, despite needing to breathe oxygen. And as for walking around with most of his spine missing too, it's a bit dodgy on some of the continuity.)
Apart from that, the doc has nowt more to say.
Cheers.

Black Light wasn't half bad. At least to start with. Dunno if it cropped up in the few years after, when I didn't collect 2kad for a while.
And Mambo was pretty cool. At times.
As for the rest- cube 'em, probably. I didn't get to read most of them, (one episode of Urban Strike sticks in my mind, the only one i ever read, the very first one in fact.)

If only Atavar had substitued all his swearing as the Strike fellows did. It woulda made it a classic!
