Alan Moore's influences...

Alan Moore is a genius an? all, but over the years I?ve spotted a couple of things that at best could be described as homage, and at worst near plagiarism.
Anyone remember that FUTURE SHOCK: ?And All of Them Were Empty?? The setting, in a roadside diner or service station, the people huddled within, taking shelter from rampaging, autonomous vehicles, the panicky guy making a break for it and getting mown down, how they eventually have to re-fuel the machines ? all exactly the same as the Stephen King story ?Trucks? from NIGHT SHIFT.
Then there was the stuff in HALO JONES. Toy?s advice to Halo at the beginning of Part 10, Book 2 about taking care not to fall down in her suit on the ice, as the exhaust filters would ignite the frozen oxygen? Anyone ever read Joe Haldeman?s THE FOREVER WAR?
Indeed the battle suits - bulky, unwieldy - and the time dilation effects of the battlefield all are uncomfortably reminiscent of Haldeman?s book.

There was also a scene in Halo Jones that was taken (almost directly) from the original version of 'All Quiet On The Western Front' where Halo is dragging her wounded friend back to base, chatting away to her, kepping her moral up etc... only to find, on reaching the base that the friend had been dead for quite some time and Halo was infact talking to voices in her head.

Or something like that.

HG Wells, Joules Verne, Bram Stoker, Robert Louis Stevenson - ALAN MOORE OWNz j00!

Also Moore has admitted that he was inspired by a Outer Limits episode, "The Architects of Fear" for the ending.

However he does a lot more with the idea than the original TV show did so more power to him.

Still, mostly, a genius, even if a mad snake-worshipping genius...

The Architects of Fear is a fantastic episode, one of the few I have on VHS along with another classic 'Deamon With A Glass Hand' (which Cameron aparently riped off for The Terminator, personally i don't see teh connection)

Andy Diggle

another classic 'Deamon With A Glass Hand' (which Cameron aparently riped off for The Terminator, personally i don't see teh connection)

Nah, Cameron ripped off Day Of The Daleks for Terminator. And he ripped off Them! for Aliens, big time.

But he turned 'em into pure movie gold, so we 'll let him off.

Buddy

Disagree there Andy, Terminator is good, but showing it's age, Aliens is utter trash, I mean really bad, Bishop is the only good thing about the film.

I'll court controversy here I much prefer Alien 3.

OOhhhh now there's a debate about to start.

Slippery PD

IMHO Alien is the better film, the camera usage is really good.  Look at the spaces where you expect the alien to come from and it dont.

Aliens is a typical cameron blockbuster, good action, lots of machismo.  its not awful.  But its not that good.

Terminator is Arnie tour de force, the only role he ever looked that comfortable in :-)

Harlen Ellison successfully sued Cameron for ripping his story off.

I still don't see the connection other than both stories involve a robot/android.
