Portrait of a Mutant Disappointment

I got the aforementioned TPB this morning. Sadly, the quality of the printing inside is rather poor, with washed out blacks (caused by an uneven water/ink balance during the printing process). The pages too seemed to vary from pin sharp clarity to those that look like they've been scanned directly from the newsprint originals from the strips' first printing in 2000AD. The Schicklgruber Grab too suffers from this irregularity. Has anybody else's copies got the printing problems and can someone confirm whether recent Megazine reprint of the Schicklgruber Grab was pulled from negatives or scanned from the comics?

TIA, TCC

No, but it sounds like I need to cancel the one I've ordered!

If you've ordered it from Amazon, see what you think if it first before returning. Yours might not have been effected by the printing errors, though elsewhere the picture quality varies between fine and poor, hardly a collectors' edition.

I've checked and I actually didn't order it. Thought I'd ordered it through my book club (one of those one's that everyone slags off, but if you wait long enough and cancel they offer to remove the need to buy a book every time). I was thinking about it though. May have to check the local shop I reckon.

Something Fishy

John,

I got mine today and had not really looked at it until now.

Mind also suffers these problems.

Shame, i was really pleased when it turned up today.

HiEx

Mine Portrait of a Mutant is currently on the way from Amazon. Hope it doesn't suffer the same print problems, but I'm not too optimistic.

I'd also like to point out that the recent hardback edition of Cursed Earth also suffers from these same printing problems. I was most upset :-(

Me thinks Titan need to get themselves another company to do the printing...fast!

I wonder if it's the same company that's been causing all the problems with the Digital Archives?

HiEx

My 'Portrait of A Mutant' just arrived from Amazon. It has all the aforementioned problems and also suffers from a few creased pages...boo, hiss!!!!

Titan, you really need to dump this Italian printer and find a new one.

I'm also surprised at the choice of  The Shicklegruber Grab as the second story, as this was only recently reprinted in the Meg. Surely, there is a lot of other SD material that hasn't had a reprint in the last 10 years.

I must be easily pleased because I've got this but don't mind the pale pages.

Aaron Smurf Murphy

I was gonna buy this out of the good things i'd heard about but now it does seem rather pointless until a second print.

Got mine today and it seems fine. Maybe there was a bad batch?
The perspective on that chairs all wrong

Hi-ex, as for why the 'Shickelgruber Grab' is the second story, I suspect that it's because it features one of the Stix, whose brothers go on to appear in 'Outlaw', along with...

John Caliber

I would say that the Schiklgruber Grab was selected because (a) it fit the page count and (b) it is nicely self-contained.

PS - I've e-mailed Titan with my complaints about the book quality. No answer yet ...

There are other stories they could have fitted in to the gap that are more self contained than 'Shickelgruber'. Could be a co-incidence but the story has a sequal that is also a sequal to 'Portrait'.
