Fudge Bredd - excellently spooky stuff that (because of the artist) made me think it might be Dark Judge related - especially since those stories have started adding in newer DJ varieties. Now that I'm reading it, it seems more its own thing, but still has echoes (naturally) of Necropolis.

Blackhawk - a wonderfully done wrap-up to this section of the tale. I imagined that Nero (?) might mwuah-hah as soon as he was free, but the story usurped my expectations there. (I do wonder if there's still time, though - what with leopards and spots.)

Bumskulls Battalion - a really tight first part, and lots of fun to be had with the diagrammatic establishing view of their HQ.

■■■■■ - given that dialogue often drives this, I got a bit lost on a page where the two characters seem to be talking at cross-purposes to each other. Still very good, but that was distracting, and it felt like it might be a mistake. (I'm blathering on about "I can get you a tour." followed by "You're saying people disappear?" I realize it might just be Kurtis trying to stay on point and cut through the bull■■■■.)

Numskulls Vex - wait, is he full up with the little peeps, or is it like a married couple? It's reminding me a bit of that twin AI in The Algebraist (Banks), but I also like that these guys are little tardigrade things in a mad exoskeleton. Even though I can see a through-line from Nemesis to Shakara to Vex, this has become a firm favorite on its own merits.

Jessica Paris could replace him, and take the name Dredd.

Seconded and did we need have to have the Doctor mention a lesbian gymkhana?  Again bringing in gay references where it's unnecessary.

Also is it me or did the containment device look very similar to shall we say, a marital aid, just without the helmet end?

Bringing in dildo references where it's unnecessary.  :D

Reading the digital prog here, and Intestinauts is a struggle. A lot of the lettering is difficult to read. At 100%, the entire comic double-page spread can be viewed on my big monitor, and text is usually legible. Intestinauts needs double-magnification to read, because the lettering on the call-outs and building-alarm-voices is ... not good.

I don't know much about lettering, but aren't those I's just not really fit for purpose?

Quote from: Stegron on 17 May, 2024, 11:42:44 PMI genuinely thought that 'Tooth & Claw' was the start of one of those multi-story stealth epics that Dredd does so well: start off with Tooth & Claw, Moon gets offed, Dredd's on his own in rough territory, and he's got to finish the mission on his own, cut off from backup and without any resources.

I totally get what you mean. Another way of looking at it, though, is like at the end of Judgement Day:

The next story was The Marshal. We never saw the story about Dredd and Alpha - probably because, much like The Kessel Run, it's best left in our imaginations.

Now that the bear's dead, Dredd crosses the mountain and returns to the city. Of course he makes it. (It's still true what you say, though. There is a disjointed nature to Dredd at the moment, and it's because there's no show runner. Whether that's good or bad..?)

Blimey! Well, let's hope they don't follow the reprints too closely...!

Evidence of crimes against comics (or CAC) right there.

Quote from: IndigoPrime on 29 March, 2024, 07:03:51 PMBloke on bike was tactically inept. A showboater. They get you killed.

It just occurred to me that this might be a Dirty Harry reference. In The Enforcer, Callahan drives his car into a store in order to defeat the armed gang within.

Is this a modern writer distancing the character of Dredd from that of Dirty Harry?

Am I stretching?

Yes, and I noticed that Gatwa looks nothing like original Doctor Tom Jones. The casting department need their eyes tested. Perhaps an optician can help?

I like the idea of ending on a deliberate high note, but it is a cool universe.

Star Wars - 1950's Super Panavision 70 makes me think of what I imagine a bad trip would be like, although if I was actually on 'shrooms I'd probably think this was the most genius thing I'd ever seen, and that the AI must've been tripping balls when it made it.

I did my best to collate all the Corann and Lesley Ryan stories.
