Off Topic / Re: They're officially on my list

Parents who think that the library is their own private creche. Don't get me wrong. I'm all in favour of children being exposed to books and the joy of reading. So long as they're at an age where they are reasonably well behaved and, more importantly, not shouting at the top of their lungs or trying to run an indoor marathon around the bookshelves, then by all means absolutely bring them in. But seriously, bringing babies and very young toddlers into a library and expecting them to be quiet is just plain daft, not too mention extremely inconsiderate towards other users of the service. I won't smoke in their creche if they don't scream in my library.

Off Topic / Lord of the Rings Themed Pub

I can only imagine Tolkien's Reaction if he walked into the bar featured in the link below. The literary snob in me is appalled by the idea of this pub, while the geeky Alco-nerd - hovering over my left shoulder - is screaming: "Bring me! Bring me! Bring me!"

Not quite said directly to me but as related by a guy I know: He and a friend are discussing the current Ebola situation. His friend announces - in very strident and admiring tones - that there was a headline in a newspaper, about how rock band "The Who" are in Africa trying to assist the people suffering so terribly over there.

Needless to say, "The Who" in question was the World Health Organisation.

And with morals like that, he's probably also responsible for the distinct lack of Virgins in Crewe.

Hell, sorry to hear that Sharky. Been down the homeless route before - albeit not to the unfortunate and horribly rough extent as yourself - so you're in my thoughts, mate. Hope things improve for you, good luck and may Fortune favour you in your case.

Help! / Re: Apostrophe Catastrophe

To quote the late, great and much lamented Con Houlihan (writer and columnist with several prominent Irish newspapers) :  "A Man who can misplace an Apostrophe is capable of anything!"

Good to see some balance, at last, on the topic of domestic violence. Interesting to note, that those bastions of equality like The Guardian and The Irish Times have conveniently chosen to ignore the article below. No doubt they are terrified of upsetting the Sisterhood, who have also been predictably quiet about this subject.

I told two old biddies to stop talking during 'The Passion of the Christ' - "It's got subtitles" was their reasonable reply.

You should have replied: "But with the two of you gabbing, how am I supposed hear the whipping as Mr Gibson intended me to?"

Music / Re: Sad songs
12 June, 2014, 11:42:40 AM
Treated myself to a taxi into work this morning. On the radio, some sad cunt is singing "All by Myself ! " with the same, desperate level of emotion as I feel when opening my Electricity bill. Just the start to the day that a lonely, middle-aged batchelor needs, lol.

Off Topic / Where is Slaine when we need him?

If only Slaine was around today. What a pleasure it would be to see him using Brain-biter on the mindless fuck-wit who vandalised one of the most sacred Irish monuments, as detailed in the link below.
