VS

Strontium Dog - more info

The draw might not have given us the semi-finals we wanted, but it's probably given us the semi-finals we needed. Strontium Dog gets the ... excuse me... under dog and given what it did to Halo Jones can we expect much from Meta Lawson and co? Well if you need any reason to shake things up here just read some of the comments about Lawless last Round. Strontium Dog has its ups and down, Lawless has been flawless... I don't expect it to make much of a difference...

Form book - Thrills vanquished to date (in order of round met earliest to latest):

Lawless: Samizdat Squad; Chimpsky's Law; Mazeworld; Thistlebone; Firekind; Brink

Strontium Dog: Angel Gang; Absalom; Ant Wars; Slaine; Bad Company; Halo Jones

SEMI FINAL - will feature just one thrill a day. I'd like to pretend this is to give these epic thrills more space and time to be commented on AND I think we'll allow them an extra day to run as only two ties all week. So to make sure everyone gets the chance we'll wrap up on... well I'll come to that.

To Vote Just reply in this thread naming your favourite thrill of these two series at the beginning of your post (or use Bold tags so I can spot it easily) and say what you like about these wonderful stories after that.

Match ends early on the morning of Friday 9th September and the winner gets a place in the Semi Finals.

What on Earth is ALL of this?

For those that need 'um and can be bothered to follow 'um there's some simple rules

Any questions, just ask as ever - and have FUN!

When I die, I want to die like my grandfather who died peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming like all the passengers in his car.

Lawless is awesome but don't think it yet has a track record to match Portrait of a Mutant, Outlaw, Rage, and all the rest. So...Strontium Dog.

Honestly, Lawless. When it's great, Strontium Dog is great. But, again, I was less thrilled than I thought I'd be from the UC re-read. Lawless, on the other hand, has been relentlessly great throughout. My guess is it won't win here (I suspect at least 2:1 in favour of Alpha), but it's the strip I want to read now, which matters for me more than anything I read then.

Not sure I buy into the concept that Strontium Dog has been patchy. I think it has been one of the most consistent long running series. Comments last round about some the epics being weaker than the shorter stories notwithstanding; and those are the stories I suspect a lot of fans hold up as the best.

Yes Lawless is probably the best strip to ever appear in the Meg, but Stront is the best strip to appear in 2000AD that's not Judge Dredd. And yes I prefer Lawless to Meg Dredd, but it's a different beast to Prog Dredd.

So I'm voting Stront. It's probably the strip the Prog misses the most. At first glance it is a simple formula, but no other strip has managed to replicate it, even though a few have tried. For me it's absence leaves a big hole.
