Here's a fun game for you all to try. Simply go to your local National Lottery outlet, pick six numbers and then see if they come up on the Lottery draw. Who knows, you may be "Squids In".

This is a bit like "Get Fact", but entirely fish based.

During the summer of 1647, a rain of fish was seen to descend upon the village of Shirts in Lower Bacaque, France. The frightened villagers perceived this to be an act of witchcraft and burned the local old wise woman known as septic Meg. Many years later it was revealed to have been the work of mischievous schoolboys who had climbed onto the church roof and thrown haddock they had stolen from the local fishmonger.

Similar to the thread about famous people with fish like names this one. Can you think of any fishy sounding films or TV series? If not just make some up.

For those budding artists out there who have your own sites and are capable of linking to here, now's your chance to shine by designing a costume for his Majesty's celebratory undersea dance. Remember that talent isn't necessary, as he'll hate anything you do anyway. Here's an outfit I designed...

While scouring the Web in search of freaks, perverts and weirdo's to amuse myself with, I noticed an incredible amount of impostors who bear the Troutman name. Here for the purpose of naming and shaming are some of them. You may like to gain favour with the Trout by adding someone else to this list, as I certainly can't be arsed to include them all.

Here's a fun game, which involves picking a song and changing the lyrics to suitably fishy ones. Here's one I made earlier...

Like A Sturgeon

I made it through the wilderness
somehow I made it through.
Didn't know how lost I was until I found you.
I was beat, incomplete
I'd been haddock
I was mackerel too

But you made my eel
yeah
you made my eel shiny and new.
Like a sturgeon touched for the very first time

Like a sturgeon, when your heart beats next to mine.
Gonna give you all my love
boy
my fear is fading fast

Been saving it all for you 'cause only love can last.
You're so fine and you're mine
make my strong

yeah
you make me bold.
Oh
your love thawed out
yeah
your love thawed out

What was scared and cold.
Like a sturgeon
hey
touched for the very first time

Like a sturgeon, with your heartbeat next to mine.
You're so fine and you're mine

I'll be yours 'til the end of time

'cause you made my eel
yeah
you made my eel

I've nothing to hide.
Like a sturgeon
hey
touched for the very first time

Like a sturgeon, with your heartbeat next to mine.
Like a sturgeon
ooh
ooh
like a sturgeon

eels are good for slides

When you hold me and your heart beats and you love me.
Ooh
baby
yeah
can't you hear my heart beat
for the very first time?

His Majesty the Trout has, as you know unnaturally un-fish like super powers, and although no one has actually seen him demonstrate these powers it's your job to decide what they may be.

Could he for instance be able to survive in the airless vacuum of space without breathing apparatus? Does our Sun give him incredible super powers such as X-ray vision, super strength and the power to drink copious amounts of alcohol without staying sober?

It's up to you to say, but remember you may be executed for your suggestions.

This game involves taking all the fish like comic characters you can think of and putting them in order of hardness. Once completed, all the results will be polled and King Troutman will be declared the hardest. Here's my list.

1. Hook Jaw

2. Namor

3. Aqua-Man

4. Billy the Fish

5. Gums

The object of this game is to think of all the famous people you can who have fish like names. You could for example have Karen Carpenter or Patrick Troughton. There are no prizes, unless you count being allowed to pursue your miserable existence, so just have fun.

General / The First Rule of 473 Club...
30 April, 2003, 04:03:22 AM
...is that you DO talk about 437 club and anything else you like really.

Welcome to the official* prog 473 cover club. This, as you may have been clever enough to guess from the title, is a club dedicated to the wonderfulness that is the cover of prog 473.

In tribute to the bike gang featured in the tale "Riders on the Storm" anyone who joins the club can be classed as an honorary member of the Ferd Marcos Block "Insolents" and it will be your duty to ruthlessly gun down any members of the Imelda Marcos "Trendos" that you may encounter during your everyday business.

Members will receive very little for their time and patience, but get to hang around on the 2K site doing really cool stuff like posting and replying to messages and talking in the chatroom if they like.

Everyone is welcome to join, there is no prejudice in the prog 473 cover club, but if you dislike the cover of prog 473 in anyway you can just f*ck right off 'cos we don't want your sort in our gang.

I'M FIGHTING WITH THE FERDINAND MARCOS INSOLENTS!

WHO'RE YOU FIGHTING WITH?

My PC was just shut down by a power surge due to the thunder and lightning we're experiencing here, so I'm playing it safe and f*cking off till it stops. Thank Grud for surge-protected plugboards eh, or not as the case may be.

General / Cover's Book.
21 April, 2003, 04:02:08 AM
No you haven't fallen into some backwards dimension, I do mean cover's book and not Book cover's. This seems to have got lost amongst the other posts in "The Greatest Cover Ever: Round 5" thread so I just thought I'd post it again, separately this time...

I'd just like to say on a kind of related but separate note that it's a shame that the printing process on early 2K's just doesn't compare with today's methods, resulting in somewhat muted colours and an overall detraction from what could have been even more striking covers.

This set me wondering if anyone else would be interested in a book of 2K covers, in a similar fashion to that of D.C's Preacher and Sandman collections, so that we may be able to view these classic covers in their full glory as nature intended.

Would anyone be interested in a series of volumes containing every cover, or just one or two books with a selection of the best, perhaps collected from the votes here? Would you like commentary from the artists responsible if possible? I imagine it would be cost-effective with it just being one page re-prints. Could we take a poll on this? Over to you...

Ah, what a day. Very little work to do so we all grabbed chairs from the canteen and sat out front enjoying the sunshine and icepops.

An extended dinner break followed allowing me to pop home and check all the Web sites I like to frequent, then back to work for a mess about on the PC's which left the trainees sickened after I wiped their scores off the pinball with mine.

Does life get any better than this? Well of course it does, I'd be a bit of a sad knacker if I thought this was the be all and end all wouldn't I, but sometimes it's these tiny moments of spontaneity that make life so refreshing isn't it. Now I'm off to rest in the garden after my hard day.

Your not so Blue Meanie,

Is anyone starting to become concerned over what is possibly nothing more than a few unconnected and minor details and the current financial position of 2K.

The first of these was the "wonderful" "The Droids Decide" filler in the Christmas prog, which was then followed by the two-cover edition of prog 1335. Both of these seem to be the work of a company trying to cut costs and increase sales, which is technically what all companies do I know, but it's starting to make me wonder just how healthy the current financial state of 2K really is.

The final detail came with the advert for next week's prog, which carried the always-dubious "STILL ONLY" message. As most people may have realised this sort of message normally appears a few months or weeks before a magazine goes up in price. It's a common enough ploy to convince you that the company has done well to keep it so low, for so long before whacking an extra five or ten pence on the cover price and mentioning the ever spiralling costs of printing.

Could the recent Bolland cover and the return of the old skool writers and artists to 2K be a last desperate gamble to tempt lapsed readers back into the fold and increase sales? Do I seriously believe we have reason to worry? Am I deliberately picking key words out and highlighting them for dramatic effect or am I merely trying to relieve some monotony by being an evil scaremonger who just wants to see the widespread panic as you consider the thought that your weekly fix of 2K might be in jeopardy? Well yes I am, but that's just the way I am today. Discuss...

Off Topic / How do you read yours?
04 April, 2003, 02:45:47 AM
As Easter approaches I couldn't help noticing the similarities between my weekly prog and a Cadbury's cream egg, apparently there isn't any. I do however tend to read it a certain way and wondered if any other boarders have a ritual...Well if I'm honest with you I didn't really wonder, I mean I do have hobbies and interest and a quite interesting life I suppose...

Anyway, I don't tend to read my prog from beginning to end, more in order of least favourite story to most favourite. For those of you interested here's how I read it this week:

Nerve centre

Input

Atavar II

Tales of Telguuth

The V.C.s

Future Shocks

Judge Dredd

And that's about it really. I may read it in a different order next week...who can tell? I can do that you know.

A little bit controversial I know, but with 2K being a quarter of a century old, do you think it has now actually become an influence for people's ideas, inventions, bizarre lifestyles, fetishes or criminal acts.

A lot of people out there are affected by books they have read in their youth, so I can actually imagine that in a similar way people brought up on 2K are in many ways influenced by it.

It's the old "Everything I know I learned from Star Trek" scenario, but without having to worry about wearing a red top when you visit a strange new place.

Anyone here prepared to say if they have been influenced by anything they have seen in 2K? Have you had your views on race, religion the judicial system or anything else overturned by a few choice words or pictures?
