The cover was brilliant this week, I have to say!

One thing we'd all agree on I'm sure. Amazing cover.
Agreed!

ABC Warriors: Can anybody tell what prog the Humpies originally appeared in? A google enquiry wasn't forthcoming...

You'll find the humpies in progs 129, 1237-1239, and 1336.

The thrill-power levels have increased for me in the last few weeks. Prog 1840 was great and this one was too, with last week's 1841 suffering from an ever so little dip. Ten-Seconders is my favourite story of the five.

I loved the retro cover. It just needed a cheap tacky plastic thing stuck on the front to get the full effect!

I'm enjoying Michael Carroll's storytelling in Judge Dredd. The way he told the cadet's story was clever and left me feeling really sorry for the young guy after initially thinking he was a coward. I hope the Carroll droid stays serviced and functioning in the Nerve Centre for a long while...

3rillers was great fun and I enjoyed spotting the little things in the artwork. The street scene was my favourite.

Zombo made me smile.
I noted the dangly bits, briefly wondered how many people would notice, before reading the next panel with it's "And he's got his bits out!" bubble signpost making sure the answer would be "Everyone!".
And I was delighted to read in the letters page that our ancient green editor has promised the return of Survival Geeks :)

Like ChickenStu, I clucked with delight at this week's retro cover. I'm currently re-reading some Progs from the first couple of years, so I was momentarily confused at whether I was looking at an old Prog or a new one.

Cover - I will "cover" (boom! boom!) this in my comments on Stickleback

Dredd -
I was shitting me-self when Hamida got shot! "Not another promising character killed" I wailed. Relieved to find it wasn't so.
The large Judge shoulder pieces are very 80s aren't they?

Dandridge - I think Max Beta is one of my favourite villians. Should another one appear called VHS, I'll always think he's inferior to Beta, Max.

Zombo - Did you understand the plot? Nah, me neither. Did you love the double page Flint spread? Yeh, me too. And have you sunk the song 'Yellow Submarine' from swimming around in your brain yet?

3rillers - Lovely, lovely story and artwork. I'll remember this one for a long time.

Stickleback - I think D'Israeli is a Picasso amongst comic artists. And like Picasso with his cubist artwork, while I appreciate his genius, I don't find his Stickleback artwork easy to look at. For example, I don't think the cover is going to win Pete Wells 'Cover of the Year'. I found the fight sequences very static. Sometimes I have to squint to work out what the pictures are saying. Having said all this, I wouldn't want D'Israeli to stop his experimental approach. I just hope that this style will be confined to Stickleback...

Flint's cover was eye catching and will be one of the contenders for 'Cover of the Year' I think.

Dredd had a great cliffhanger ending. No spoilers from me. As an aside, I'm re-reading some early Progs and after comparing logos, I was idling wondering when they stopped using the Judge profile for the 'J'? I'd like to see it return.

I enjoyed the Betamax jokes in Dandridge, though I'd welcomed a dig at the inferior VHS format  ;)

3rillers also had a great cliffhanger. My thrill circuits are sizzling with anticipation for the finale next week.

I always slow down to read Stickleback and examine the artwork. Partly because the textured greys and white lines make it difficult at times to read. But also to seek out the hidden graphic references. Didn't spot very many this week. Hoping to see an Ice Warrior from Doctor Who after last Saturday's episode, but that was going to be a coincidence too far!

Zombo was a bit gruesome this week, wasn't he?!! His solution to removing acne was rather effective!

Cover - Didn't do anything for me, but I can see its appeal to a certain type of mind!
Dredd - Enjoying this story. I think it's good that Muslim references are being used to reflect the multi-cultural world we live in
Dandridge - This character, and the world he inhabits, is growing on me. I didn't like his previous run in 2000AD
3hrillers - My favourite story of the Prog this week (like the previous 3 weeks). I sometimes get the feeling that writers for regular strips drag out their stories (for example Wagner on the recent SD). In the 3hriller, the writer has to cram everything, thus increasing the thrill-power quota on each page IMHO.
Stickleback - D'Israeli's artwork is fantastically unique. Having said that, I find it a little hard to read, with all the mottled greys and white lines. But I'm willing to put up with it as it's refreshingly idiosyncratic.
Zombo - Makes me titter rather than laugh. Gags are fired out with the accuracy of Sir Les Patterson with a machine gun. Some hit the mark, while others whistle pass the studio lights to ricochet ineffectively in the high roof.

The two stories that I really enjoyed in this week's Prog were Survival Geeks (I desperately want to live in an alternative reality that never cancelled Firefly too) and Zombo.

Excellent Prog. My favourite story this week was the 3hrillers one, Survival Geeks. I especially enjoyed Neil Googe's artwork and all the geek references. And then there were all the references in Stickleback!

I'm not generally negative, but my biggest thought after finishing this Prog is "Thank the Tharg that this is the end of The Red Seas!"

On a more positive note, I liked how Savage ended. This book has really captured the futility of war - the waste of soldiers' lives on both sides, the politics, how it's about money rather than right or wrong, etc. I look forward to the next book.

It's always great to see a Bolland Dredd cover.

I agree with those who are saying that Hershey is acting out of character. It's too early to tell whether this is due to poor writing (Carroll misunderstanding the character) or clever writing (Hershey is a savvy political operator)...

Happy 36th Birthday 2000AD
