Crawling from the dawn of time. When legend was reality and their reality became legend... or some other such twoddle. Look, these creatures of darkness come from dark hallowed places we don't quite understand. Doesn't mean you can't like them.

Pop the names of the two characters you'd like to progress into Round 2 in a reply to this thread and I'll count up early Monday 3rd August.

Elfric (Slaine) - https://britishcomics.fandom.com/wiki/Elfric
Weird Lord Slough Feg (Slaine) -  https://britishcomics.fandom.com/wiki/Lord_Weird_Slough_Feg
Ethan Kostabi (Caballistics Inc) -  http://www.2000ad.org/caballistics/employees.php#EthanKostabi
Masterman (Lloigor) (Zenith) -  https://britishcomics.fandom.com/wiki/Masterman

What is all this nonsense? Well the 'rules' (ahem) for Round 1 are here:

And there's more about the structure of the tournament here:

When I die, I want to die like my grandfather who died peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming like all the passengers in his car.

Old age is the Lord's way of telling us to step aside for something new. Death's in case we didn't take the hint.

Slough Feg and Masterman.

How do you pronounce Slough?

Elfric may be a demon, but Iok Sotot (because that's who we're really voting for here, not just his host body) is a Many-Angled One. So it's a case of "Shh! Darkness is coming..." for the fruity (and slightly over-used) el-being as Masterman extinguishes him.

And obviously the Lord Weird Slough Feg gets through too, because there's no heavy metal band called Ethan Kostabi.

Slough Feg, if only for that wonderful syntax. But he also has pathos - he's a sad, shambling shell of a thing, while no less a great villain for that.

And while I didn't particularly want to go for two Slaine characters, he has to be joined by Elfric - I've not read Zenith so Masterman's out, and while I love Caballistics, Kostabi was too successful a behind-the-scenes master manipulator to be very memorable.

I've not read Zenith

If you want to picture me reading this thread, then at this point you have to imagine Frasier Crane exclaiming "Oh dear god!" to get the full effect.

See I was going to go with "Sacrilege!" but yours works too.

I'm just utterly speechless....one of the core people on the Forum...hasn't read the Stainless Steel Rat...ok fair enough....but not read Zenith as well?

All I can say is, get them...they are top thrills.

Elfric. If only for the way he can separate his body to dodge swipes of your sword.

Masterman for sheer arrogance.
