Title: Resident Evil 4
Post by: WoD on 20 July, 2007, 02:32:56 PM
I'm loving this a fair bit on the Wii, but would like some general advice regarding treasures.  Bascially, what is the best thing to do with these; do I hold on to them or sell them to the gun-dealer to get better weapons?  I worked out that some need to be combined to increase their value, so I'm holding on to these, but what about the rest and what about these when they are combined.

Thanks,
WoD.

I basically just sold all of mine and kept the ones that could be combined.

A further piece of advice is that once you get onto the island later you NEED some sort of rifle so just keep this in mind.

would this Island be the bit just after the thing in the lake?  If it is I need to back track a bit!!

Hold on to the ones that can obviously be combined and sell the rest â?? spinels etc. Some treasures require multiple gems to be added to complete them and get maximum value, but if you find yourself in a tight spot youâ??re better off flogging an incomplete treasure to get the cash than holding out for a few thousand extra. To be honest though, it may not be until your second or third playthrough that you get all of the pieces for some of the major treasures.

So the spinels have no other purpose?

Not played Resident Evil 4 myself but from the treasures FAQ on GameFAQ the spinels are only for selling.

The link is for the treasures FAQ which shouldn't give too much away about the rest of the game, though is based on the Gamecube and PS2 versions and may be diferent for the Wii.

Oddly enough, I just finished my first playthrough on this last night. Have to say it's pretty much the best third-person action game I've ever played.

If you want my advice, you'll beef up your best 9mm as often as you can - I relied on it all the way through.

Nope - the spinels are just there to be sold as you find them. Loving the new controls on this version, BTW - just wish we were getting a proper next RE on the Wii rather than the lightgun-esque RE: Umbrella Chronicles.

It's really impressed me this game.  And the controls are great.

Are there any other games on the Wii to be recommended especially for their controls?

Sonic's mot too bad, some of the level design can be a bit if and the back step mechanic is a bit squiffy but its fun over all and easy to control with simple tilts and thrusts(ohh errr).
I'm looking forward to that Japanese Golf game thats coming out(cant remember the title but its got the cute anime style to it) anybody played it yet, Wii was made for Golf games if they get it right.

Zelda's pretty nice all over, too.

Radbacker --

Yeah, Sonic has some interesting "quirks" - most notably the awful backstep controls & the bizarre decision to gimp Sonic at the outset and force the player to play for several hours to get to a stage where he is relatively controllable. Aside from that, though, it's not too bad & can be a blast on the higher levels.

The golf game is Pangya - Golf with Style! and certainly seems to be worth a look. Trauma Centre: Second Opinion is out soon as well & that looks to be a fantastic remake of the DS title.

Through getting the Wii i've started seekin gout some old GC stuff (never owned one), there are some real gems out there.

I'll keep playing this until i get some.  I'm taking my time, not even half way yet.

I didn't know you could combine some of the treasures!

Yeah, handy way to make some money.

Fishy - Metroid Prime 1 and 2, Pikmin 1 and 2, Battallion Wars, Zelda: the Wind Waker (with free remakes of the N64 games).
Essential GC games.
I also thought the last Starfox outing was okay, if a bit brief - better than that platformy one that came out ages ago, at any rate.

Amstor - Thats the one
Fishy - another Cube game worth seeking would be Fzero, absolutly blisteringly fast, and pretty hard core on the later levels.  I still pull it out to play today when I want a bit of a rush(fun multiplayer too)

theres a beer mug that you fit red, green and yellow stones into it.

a mask where you fit three coloured stones in as well.

a cat statue which you fit three stones into the cats eyes.

a butterfly lap that you put three cat eyes into from those nosferatu creatures.

i think thats it for combos.  the rest of the stuff is just stand alone.

there will be a lot of small stones, like spinals.  if you take down a tough bad guy, like dr salavadore (aka cray chainsaw guy) where you get rubys.  you will also occassionally come over super expensive treasures, eg, golden chess set.

if you go into the treasure section and select to view the item, you get a wee description.  it usually gives you a hint if it needs to be combined.

i might have played this game to much.  but it ROCKS!!!!!

Thanks for the Cube hints peeps.  I picked up Pikmin and Metroid Prime already (both seem fantastic thus on first impressions).

I'll look for some of the others.

Is the Rogue Leader series any good?

Is the Rogue Leader series any good?

Gorgeous graphics for the Cube (and arguably still on the Wii) and some great Star Wars moments, but very standard gameplay. Buy cheap if you're a Star Wars/arcade flight fan, but don't expect groundbreaking gameplay.

Killer 7 really does deserve a Wiimake. Its almost designed for the controls.

Sorry for using the made up Wiimake.

I have just tried this game out for the first time .It looks beautiful ,is very atmospheric, and i love the sound effects are also very good.

However the actual gameplay as in the way this character moves is just terrible.I dont like it at all.The worst i have ever experienced in fact.I dont like the controls and the worst bit of all is the feeling of the controls when looking around and turning around.Terrible.

*Why does the character have to stay rooted to the spot when using the knife? Absolutly hopeless really. Not enough ammunition either. Some might find this challenging but i just find it tiresome.

If i dont make reasonable progress in the first stages of the game ,its usually a bad sign that i wont enjoy it and i have played enough games to know what i like and dont like.

Back to the shop it goes otherwise its just going to wind me up too much otherwise.

Keep going, get in to the mind set of the game and it will be worthwhile.  honest.

Post by: Peter Wolf on 24 November, 2007, 01:14:27 AM

Its not the mind set that i am having a problem with .Its the way you control the character and the button configuration and the way the character moves that i dont like as it felt wrong right from the beginning.when i stopped playing it i felt weirdly disorientated and was moving the same way as the character in the game .Made my eyesight feel a bit weird too.Peculiar .

I will take into consideration what you say and maybe have another go.Maybe.

To better explain what i am trying to say and explain my criticism of this game :

Witness the gameplay and fluid game player interaction while playing Manhunt or scarface.Manhunt had the most fluid game controlling configuration that i have ever used.Predator concrete Jungle was also good from this point of view.

I had no complaints there and felt at home with the controls right from the word go.

Persevering with this game now and it does get better and i am becoming fluid with the controls.

And i remembered the rules regarding fighting zombies. That is to keep your distance from them.

Perseverence is always the magic word regarding gameplay and not losing patience with it.

Dont understand yet why they are talking in Latin accents.

...OK.

Really astounded that anyone could find the control scheme in Manhunt or Scarface that great, but hey, that's the great thing about games.
