Ah, nice for us old timers! Not enough for me to buy a PSP, though! Bring on the Wii, with it's Megadrive, SNES, N64, NES and PC ENGINE museum!
Oh, yeah, baby!

The Enigmatic Dr X

This seems a good place to tell you all that I (well Mrs X, but what's hers is mine if she knows what's good for her) won PSP on Friday. At a free do, with free food and a stay over in the Edinburgh Sheraton.

Top night!

You can play all these games using emulators already - it seems a bit odd to spend thirty quid on something you can get for free off the internet, especially if you're only getting three or four games on the disc and you can get hundreds from the web (and no-one's ever been prosecuted for using emulators), and that before you even check out the arcade, snes, or GBA emulation software.
I'll be installing the GBA emulator any day now, and then I won't have to buy another PSP game for roughly... thirty years or so.

I'm really looking forward to being able to play PC engine games, never saw hide nor hair of them down here when they were doing the rounds with the importers(I was having too much fun with my swanky new Megadrive anyway).
With regards to no one ever being prosecuted for using emulators, I'd say that'll soon change because all the old stuff will be worth something to the publishers with the current trend for retro copmpilations and the Virtual consoles on both the Wii and 360 they wont want to see those $ going to waste.

Doubtful - I think the main attraction with retro-gaming for the console crowd will be ease of use, more than anything.  You can spend half an hour downloading emulators and roms off a website, then installing both on a chipped console (or a homebrew packet in the case of the PSP) - or you can spend 50p-1 pound buying the one game you're after RIGHT NOW using the internet store for your console.
Retro-gaming is always going to be niche because of the (relatively) primitive gameplay dynamics and graphics/sound capabilities of the original games.  You could argue that the GBA didn't do as well as everyone thought because the games were a little old-school (mostly 2d).

And no matter what some muppets believe, the PSP is pretty rubbish for anything but emulation anyway.  I've not been impressed by anything so far, be it GTA or Daxter (poor control layout on the machine, and everything seen thus far is just a stripped-down version of better PS2 games), and the emulation software is about the only thing making me turn it on.

'spose your right there, I myself hate all the hassle of trying to get Em's to run all the hacking and poke'ing just isn't my thing so definatly what I'm after is just straight plug and play(I dont even play Xbox games on my 360 because of the patching).
Yeah my mate plays LocoRoco(one of the greatest handheld games ever, should be on the DS) on his PSP and the variouse Retro compilations(Capcom Classics is just awsome) and thats it,  last thing you want on your handheld is cut down PS2 games.  And the controlls just shit, his L shoulder button jammed down and hung the whole system, had to send it to sony to get fixed which only took em about 5 weeks!
