The weekly progs and the collected editions are two very distinct objects of desire that tweak very different pleasure centres of my brain. It's those weirdos who collect the original art as well, those are the freakozoids you *really* have to watch.

I must admit, when I started collecting 2000AD nearly half a century ago, I wasn't really prepared for it to last this long. I remember tv programmes that showed Bob Monkhouse and his complete Beano collection (which would have been, what, 2000 or so issues at the time) and thinking "at least I won't ever have *that many*". Um.

That might be so- I have books 1-4 as Ultimate Collection hardbacks, so this is the first paperback I've bought. If an editorial decision, it's an odd one!

General / BRINK BOOK 5 Query

Everyone got their copies of the newly-released Brink volume, I hope?

Mine arrived the other day, and since I've been working every single second since, I haven't had time to check- but...

Something wad bugging me, and it's just hit me what it is. The series was called MERCURY RETROGRADE wasn't it? Is it ever referred to by that title in the new collected edition? My initial flick leads me to think it's not. Just 'Book Five' throughout.

Could someone closer to a copy check that for me? I won't be home for DAYS!

Enjoyed that. Hoping for more. The Ch4 logo at the end suggests more. I hope they get some made before the government shuts the channel down!

The upcoming price rise slightly concerns me. £7.99?

I think the price it is just for xmas meg since it is going to be 144 pages

That sound you just heard was my arthritic fingers cracking as I crossed them.

I've only seen three- Graveyard Rats, which I very much enjoyed as an adaptation of Kuttner's story, and which I thought benefited from crowbarring in the Lovecraftian Mythos stuff, seeing as Kuttner was originally part of that circle. Also, Pickman's Model was, I thought, a half-decent adaptation stretched beyond its limits, which ended up just about breaking even. Dreams in the Witch House, however, was beyond awful. Lovecraft's story turned into a limp Harry Potter fan-film. It's not often I watch an HPL adaptation and fail to find anything within that arguably added extra (if completely different) elements of enjoyment, but Witch House managed it. Pitiful. Shits in the Shit House, more like.

The upcoming price rise slightly concerns me. £7.99? That's a 33% increase. The inclusion of strips I've already got may push me ever-so-slightly towards perhaps, possibly, maybe, giving it up. Can't buy these things forever, and sixteen quid a month (I buy my eldest a copy) may prove too much.

Mine has turned up, and it is a thing of delicious beauty. Will set aside a few hours to read it (again, as The Out is one of only three 'recent' strips I've reread at least twice after their initial printing. The others being Brink and Lawless).

One thing though- while I love having it in hardback, the cover art doesn't scream 'cover art' to me. If anything, it's kind of like the secret art you'd find after you'd peeled off the dust jacket on a book you got for Xmas back in the day. A dj would have been most excellent in this case.

Wolfie, that's appalling to hear and you have my deepest, deepest, condolences. Obviously you're not okay at present- who would be?- but I'm glad that in some small way this forum makes things a percentage point easier.

Yep, snap. I've been buying the comic entirely for Leopard as well. And I've lost count of the times I've asked different members of my local whs team why it's stocked where it is. Originally, they shelved it on the top row- beyond even my grasping fingers- *behind* Viz. I got it moved, but only down to eye height and next to the prog. My mission to get it placed at the other end of the shop with the Beano etc continues.

I confess to buying it for Leopard alone, and giving the rest only a cursory read- but from what I see, it looks like good value for money.

Agreed. Much to my surprise, I bought the second arc after thinking the novelty would have worn off following that first book. And then because i enjoyed the second even more than the first, after the renumbering, I continued with this one. It's pish.

Predator is a lot of fun though.

Thanks for that reminder- I've just ordered mine. The first webshop exclusive hardcover I've bought, actually.
