General / Sideshow Vote II: From beyond the stars
01 June, 2022, 04:47:30 AM
In the 60s we were introduced to a sci-fi show that will spawn multiple movies and shows. The original show was more than a sci-fi show it also had a huge cultural impact on how we saw other people. The 70s we had another change to see how a movie made an impact on our lives, which became a multi-billion franchise. If you have not lift under a rock and if you cannot guess, we are talking about Star Trek and Star Wars. Quite a simple question here which of these franchises is your favorite:
-   I am a Force man, Star Wars all the way
-   I am a Trekkie, Star Trek all the way
-   Starbuck baby, Battlestar Galactica all the way
-   Sorry guys, I am more an Agatha Christie guy

Another British talent lost to the comic empires over the Atlantic Ocean. He is the man whom re-invented the green monstrosity the "Hulk". We are talking about Al Ewing. Before he left for greener pastures, he started having an influence on the prog with his unique story-telling ability. So simple question which was his best story for the prog/meg:
-   his Dredd stories
-   his short stories (Terror Tales, Future Shocks)
-   Damnation Station
-   Zombo
-   Zaucer of Zilk
-   Tempest
-   Dead Signal

Today we square off two off two most influential writers in the history of British comics. It is the battle of the supreme masters Mills vs Wagner. So, you have a double vote, one for who is the most influential in the history for British comics and who is the most influential in the history of the prog.

So, are you ready to rumble?
-   Pat Mills vs Jogn Wagner the ultimately showdown

Welcome to the second knockout round where we will choose our favorite story arc.

We already have three story arcs that has qualified.

So, let's get the next showdown up and running: The best Button Man story ever told was the first ever Button Man story told and that is The Killing Game
-   Yay, you are spot on
-   Nay, surely you are mistaken it must be .................................

We all know that the great Carlos Ezquerra created the look of Dredd. Unfortunately, he only draw his first Dredd for prog 5 and mostly took a back seat in the beginning to his own creation. Now the question which artist do you believe was the most influenceable in forming and molding Dredd into the character we know today:
-   Ron Smith
-   Mike McMahon
-   Brain Bolland

General / Sideshow Vote II: BFG no man it is GFD
25 May, 2022, 04:01:18 AM
He is one off the most underrated writers in the history of the prog and created some of the most memorable characters. We are talking about Gerry Finley-Day (GFD). This is an easy question, what is GFD's bets creation for the prog:
-   The VCs
-   Rogue Trooper
-   Fiends of the Eastern Front
-   Harry 20
-   Black Hawk (Tornado)
-   Ant Wars

Welcome to the first knockout round where we will choose our favorite story arc.

It will work quite simple: I will make a statement and you can than either acknowledge that my choice is the right choice, or you can rebuke it. But with a rebuke you will have to state the alternative.

The statement will be something like the best story arc for the XYZ series is ABC. You can then rebuke it by stating no it is QWERTY

At the end we will have about 16 story arcs from different series whom we engage in Mortal Kombat to determine the top 3 story arc.

We already have two story arcs that has qualified:
Strontium Dog – The Killing
Judge Dredd – Apocalypse War (including Block Mania)

So, let's get this show on the road: The finest and greatest Slaine story ever told is The Horned God
-   Yay, you are spot on
-   Nay, surely you are mistaken it must be .................................

Choosing one out of 2283 (@ print) possibilities is always a daunting task. This one of those votes that might be more of an opinion than a vote. Let's ask the question what is your best/favorite prog?
Maybe something like prog 335:
-   Dredd The Graveyard Shift Part 1
-   Nemesis Book 3 Part 1
-   Rogue From Hell to Eternity Part 1
-   Slaine Warriors Dawn Part 1
-   Strontium Dog The Moses Incident Part 1

So yes, this is a very open-ended vote here. You have 2283 plus choices here.

Megazine / Meg 444 - Pressure Point!
18 May, 2022, 02:26:15 PM
A good enough meg not the greatest but enjoyable.

Dredd – The Red Queen saga continues with interesting new story basically continuing from last year's The Hard Way running in the prog. This is a semi-standalone which will then continue into the next arc of the saga. Lynch is the normal artists but for this episode we have Ian Richardson on art duties (who reminds me of Staz's art) and it is great.  Good start.

Death Cap – A very weird episode in the sense that nothing really happened except that we have 8 pages where Goya has been carried to a fungus. The page layout was quite interesting. Plot wise except for the last page nothing changed.

Diamond Dogs – We are moving to the endgame as Armitage and Nia gets their respective "issues" sorted out. We need to wait and see how the finale will now play out.

Lawless – Meta is not taking her lost very well. The new mayor well what can we say is being used by everyone. Meta at last "decided" to do something about the lost. A good episode from Abnett spinning and weaving his intrigue. As always the art is fantastic.

Surfer – Zane is on the run and
try to make a deal with but ending up being arrested
. What is more interesting is that this is only the end of Book 1 so there is more to come.

General / Sideshow Vote: The end of the road
08 May, 2022, 07:17:14 PM
The sideshow vote is no more (for the time being). I am currently just void of ideas so I will resume the sideshow when my "writers" block is resolved. I will close the last few votes this week and hopefully (if any care – and that is fine as well) the sideshow will live on someday.

So long and thank you for all the votes............

It is that time again when the regular prog gets replaced by a regen prog. Love it or hate it, I believe it is here to stay. I have seen many arguments for or against it. So here we are here is the question: Should regen prog exist or in which capacity? So how do you feel:
-   Yes, keep it as it is 4 regen progs and 46 regular progs a year
-   Yes, keep it but do it like the Meg make it a floppy each quarter
-   Yes, keep the regen prog but depending on economics make it is own publication
-   Let's go guns blazing here and replace the prog with the regen prog
-   No stop this we know what happened to doctor Frankenstein's monster
-   Regen is its some funky new energy drink?

Prog / Prog 2280 - High-Octane Sci-Fi Action!
04 May, 2022, 04:37:50 AM
Here we are with another regen issue. So, what do we get this round: overall it was all readable but nothing spectacular? What I do like about the regen prog is that here mini-Tharg can experiment with different ideas and concepts and see what works and what not.

Cadet Dredd – Not a bad story with more violence than the normal Cadet stories. The more interesting thing here is how Rico is systematically becoming more and more whom we all know whom he will be.

Lowborn High – This is one of the new stories and which I find quite enjoyable. It is almost a rip-off of Hogwarts, but the focus is more on the low-income school than the prestige one. The story has some future presence (it will return next regen) with some interesting setups and possibilities. My favorite from the regen and would like to see the story explored more.

Shock – Another good Shock from newcomer Honor. This one could also work in the regular prog, and I find this one so far, the be the best of the regen Shocks.

The Unteachables – This is technical not a new thrill since it continues from the Shock, we had in regen 2130. It was readable but nothing spectacular.

Chopper – Again readable but nothing that stands out here.

Let's go back in time remember the Summer Offensive of 93.  Here is the list of strips that launch that day:
•   Judge Dredd - Inferno (part 1) (Grant Morrison - Carlos Ezquerra)
•   Big Dave - Target: Baghdad (part 1) (Grant Morrison and Mark Millar - Steve Parkhouse)
•   Slaughter Bowl (part 1) (John Smith - Paul Peart)
•   Really & Truly (part 1) (Grant Morrison - Rian Hughes)
•   Maniac 5 (part 1) (Mark Millar - Steve Yeowell)

Yes, hate it, loathe it, or love it this is what it is all about. So here is your question:
-   I loathe it
-   I loved it
-   Not everything was bad (John Smith saved the day)
-   I stopped reading the prog by that time
-   I stopped reading the prog after reading this

Wagner delivered a 10-part Dredd story called Citadel. It was hyped as event that will change the world of Dredd forever. You can also follow Tjm86's dedicated thread discussing in detail the epic. Now here we are, and this is what we want to know: was it as game changing as we were led to believe?
-   Yes, it will have a huge impact on the world
-   Yes, but I did not like the story
-   No, I cannot see that it will have a big impact
-   No and I did not like the story
-   Maybe, depends how it is handled afterwards
-   What, I did know Wagner did another Dredd strip!!!!!

Books & Comics / Placebo Judge Dredd Strip
01 May, 2022, 09:20:16 AM
I have bought the latest Judge Dredd Case Files #39. It contains a Judge Dredd strip called Placebo which never ran in the prog or the meg. In which publication did this strip come from?

General / Sideshow Vote: I love supplements

If you are one of those people that gets the Judge Dredd Megazine then you will know what the floppy is. So, what is it what the floppy should contain:
-   I like it as it is: new material, reprint material and miscellaneous material (like the encyclopedia)
-   Only new material and reprint please
-   Only new material please
-   Only reprint material
-   Only miscellaneous material
-   Drop the idea I am cheap, and I want to pay less
-   I can remember the days when it was either 5¼-inch or 3½-inch
-   Goodness gracious me I must have lived under a rock did not even know there is a Judge Dredd

General / Sideshow Vote: I am all grown-up

So, we had a few 3rillers that migrated into its own full fletch series. We also had a few from the regen progs which also became a full fletch series. Quite simple which of these 3rillers/regen stories is your favourite series:
-   Survival Geeks
-   Mechastopheles
-   Saphir
-   Intestinauts – technically it was a Future Shock as well
-   Full Tilt Boogie
-   Department K
-   Pandora Perfect

This is all about the forums most infamous son, the series that most posters just cannot get into. No not that one the other one: Skip Tracer.
The first series saw the light of day in prog 2081 and since that time we had a regular dose (6 series in total with one last one coming up soon). It just looks like there is no ending for this series it gets a run every year.
See this as your therapeutic session where you can vent and cry (no need to go to the offices toilet you can do it behind your keyboard). Let's talk about it and delve into the reality, the who, the why and the what. So here are your choices:
-   Too generic
-   The main protagonist is just too angry to like
-   The premise is boring and the characters not interesting
-   The premise is fine but the characters not interesting
-   The premise is boring, but the characters are fine
-   One of those thrills which I do not mind reading but if it never gets another series, I will not miss it
-   As the series progressed, I got more into it
-   Sorry guys I just love it I want more I want more
-   Mmmm I have a different opinion
