OK. You're saying I misread your tone? Then I apologise for that — you weren't demanding anything. Tone is difficult to judge in text-based media, and I clearly got this wrong. I'm sorry.

OK, maybe "demand" is the wrong word. Your quoted text above speaks, at least, of impatience and irritation with the situation, which in turn suggests some sense of... entitlement to an update. If that's not how you meant it, I'm happy to apologise for mis-reading your intended tone.

You seem to think the lack of updates is "silly" but people with better knowledge of how these things work than I have spent a page or so explaining how these things work, so perhaps you'd be better off engaging with those explanations than nit-picking semantics with me.

Blazer is, read on its own, problematic today.  But I think its important to consider it in its proper context.  These scripts were created as part of Steve's parody novel, The Sheerglam Conspiracy, they were not initially intended to be turned into a comic but were elaborate jokes, pointing out the foibles and problems with the comics many of us read in the seventies. The fact that dreadful sexist names were used for characters (Totti) and that casual racism was endemic, was, I felt, part of the point of the book.   Read in that context, Blazer is a different animal. I'm not sure its useful to sanitize parody and ignore the things that were wrong with seventies comics, but I would suggest that it is best read as an honest parody.

I have a suspicion that there was a Night of the Long Knives at IMGlobal (there was certainly a major management reshuffle) and whoever was on the inside and enthusiastic for the MC-1 series was suddenly on the outside, replaced by someone with literally no motivation to make their predeccesor's projects a success.

If that's what happened (and, as always, I have no inside info) and Rebellion took on good faith the enthusiasm of a senior exec to make the series happen, only for that exec to be unceremoniously ousted, then surely you can understand the added caution over announcing any developments after that?

Ignoring the artwork entirely and focusing on the script, the first things that spring to mind are:

Titling a strip 'Domenica's Ring' is bad enough but the lead character of this strip is a seventeen year old girl with the surname 'Totti'.
Next in 'Boot Room Boy' we have a Mr Pablo Zapata, from Carambia who doesn't speak English very well. In fact his first words are 'I shoot many goalies.'

So the foreign footballer and one use in a WW2 strip of the word Jap.

No. One of the worst most mind numbing annoying films I have ever seen, completely artistically without merit.

Well, that was an experience.

I've mulled it over since I finished it but I think the best thing I can say about Blazer is that if they wanted to make a comic from the '70's they succeeded.

Personally I thought the only strip that landed was 'Godwin's Law' with art by Dan Cornwell. I'd be happy to read more of that, despite the similarity with Darkie's Mob.

I'm torn as I know some of the creators involved, and in all honesty I think that they are better than this. I found it to be borderline racist in places and sexist.

I wish Cosmic Ray were still around to show them how to do this sort of thing.

Agree. Recreating a 70s comic can be done well without recreating some of the prejudiced attitudes.

Never been a big fan of Cornwell but his stuff is the best of a bad bunch.
