Help! / A half-remembered film
07 September, 2009, 02:13:30 PM
Juat got to thinking last night about a film i watched as a kid (when the folks were out, it was all sexy and that).
It was possibly a foreign language one, about an attractive female teacher marooned on an island teaching two kids.  The kids hated her and she was very strict, but (in hindsight I realise) it was an expression of her sexual frustration: There was some young guy on the island who she kept coming on to, including rubbing his balls, but our man failed to pitch a trouser tent every time. I think he turned out to be gay or something. There was a surreal underwater scene as well.
Anyway it was very sexy and weird, wouldn't mind watching it again. Er, for curiousity and nostalgia's sake, you understand. Anyone know this one?

Wasn't Johnny Depp pencilled in to play the Riddler? Or is that just a silly rumour?

Liked the Wickerman scene a lot too but I also liked the Beltain Giant festival scene. I didn't even realise at the time that the giant in question was real, and had a big horn and balls, hidden by smoke in the Slaine scene.
I was recently saddened to discover that the giant may only be a few hundred years old.  Then again, it might not.

Megazine / Re: How crap is Armitage?

QuoteFrom a factual perspective there's no denying the worlds co-exist in the same timeline but I don't think that was Wagner's original intention. I think he wrote Stront to be separate. I think you can take it or leave it. It was fun to see Dredd and Alpha pulling punches and then coming together in Judgement Day but you don't have to take it too seriously.

I'll go along with that.  As far as I'm concerned, Al Ewing sorted it out:  Now that they know SD world is a possible future, they can stop it happening.  Comics continuity is just a massive pain in the hole

Ahh, it's alright. I've seen a lot worse in the Megazine. Personally I love Dave Stone's Brit-Cit, even if the latest story isn't exactly bursting with energy.  I kind of miss the crime Overlords and the Star Chamber though, they were what made Armitage's city really different from Dredd's one.  I want to see The Dragon and The Behemoth again

Quote1st Place: "My Uncle Is A Man Named Steve (Not A Monkey)"
Cassidy Turnbull (grade 5) presented her uncle, Steve. She also showed photographs of monkeys and invited fairgoers to note the differences between her uncle and the monkeys. She tried to feed her uncle bananas, but he declined to eat them. Cassidy has conclusively shown that her uncle is no monkey.

Surely having a laugh?  Mind you, I'm in the middle of Christopher Hitchens' God is Not Great, and by now I'd believe anything fundamentalist is possible (except the supernatural parts).  Though Hitchens does come across as a bit of a  belligerent misanthropist, it's got to be said it's a fascinating read.

Help! / Re: Thumb through screen. Argh!

Cheers Buddy, though I think that's considerably cheaper than what my local place charges, and my laptop is an unusual brand too.  So I have a feeling i may have to pay a little bit more than you. We'll see how it goes, though.

Wow, that's mental - I did exactly the same thing to my own laptop last night! What a headfuck.  No idea of the cost yet, I'm scared to take it to the repair shop.

Oh yeah, and I did it like this - my screen was dodgy anyway and often stopped working. The only way to fix it was to flex the screen a bit with your hand. I just did it too much

Very, very difficult.

But number 1, without a doubt, is Cravenoir. I just can't stop looking at it.  Great idea, perfectly executed.

2:  Supersurfer.

3:  Mike Carroll 02.

Help! / Re: A name for a boy
26 July, 2009, 02:51:41 PM
A couple I know had a boy this year, and left him nameless for days as they argued over the sensible Benjamin (his idea) and, er, Rudy (her idea). Eventually they settled on the very respectable Jonah.
