Prog / Prog 1929 Armed and Dangerous
02 May, 2015, 10:31:24 AM
What a beautiful cover from Ryan Brown. Crisp and clean with a real 3-D feel to it. I particularly like the strap 2000 AD being reflected in Dredd's helmet and the whisp of smoke that partly obscures the corner 'badge' 2000 AD. I've sat looking at the cover for far longer than is probably healthy. Lovely stuff.

Judge Dredd: Breaking Bud part 1. Good start. Already feel really sorry for Bud. No one should have to live in Duncan Smith block.

Orlok, Agent of East Meg One: The Rasputin Caper part six. Concludes this issue and I've enjoyed it. Felt quite old school to me.

Slaine The Brutania Chronicles Book two part six. Love the artwork on this story, probably my favourite of the whole issue. The final page is beautiful with all the greens and reds.

Grey Area: Locked In part three. My least favourite of the current run but I still get pleasure in reading it.

Strontium Dog: The Stix Fix part six. Again, great stuff. The prog has a terrific blend of the old and the new (more in favour of the old, if truth be told) and that's just the way I like it.

Nice poster encouraging us all to vote (I shall be) and finally an ad for issue 8 of the Judge Dredd Mega Collection.

I thought this issue might have been a bit of a let down after the FCBD issue but it holds it own well. Hopefully loads will pick this up with their freebie at the comic shop and they won't be disappointed.

Prog / FCBD 2015 prog
02 May, 2015, 10:18:23 AM
This is lovely. Love the thicker paper for the cover, which in itself is super from Henry Flint.

Judge Dredd: In Through The Door
3000 AD The Traveller
Death Rock
Nemesis: The Tomb of Torquemada
Doctor Sin: Don't Call it a Comeback
Dan Dare. This has made me feel warm and fuzzy and like an 8 year old again.
Slaine: The Brutania Chronicles part 1
2 Judge Dredd Daily Star strips
and
Tharg's Alien Invasions: The Choir Visible.
All wit loads of lovely, relevant adverts and the most poignant, beautiful back cover ever.

Worth every penny  ;)

Superb stuff.

Prog / 1926 - Old Wounds
09 April, 2015, 09:30:26 AM
Only received the previous issue on Tuesday due to the Bank Holidays and what should pop through my door this morning but Prog 1926.

I won't divulge anything due to it being quite so early except it's a lovely cover by Henry Flint. After the recent discussions regarding 'head shot' covers I think this one should please most people.

Very eye catching. And green.

Prog / Prog 1913 Knight Terrors
10 January, 2015, 09:05:27 AM
My first Prog of the New Year and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Splendid cover by Neil Roberts. Really quite lovely.

Nerve Centre. Tharg plugs the Mega Collection and Droid Life features Aqualung.

Judge Dredd: Beautiful, beautiful art from the Staples droid. The opening panel is a disgusting work of art.

Ulysses Sweet: I still like this, which surprises me because I don't normally. A nice break from the normal bleak peak into the future.

Orlok Agent of East Meg One Himself.: Very nice centre spread.  I'll have to give it a few more episodes before deciding if it's for me or not.

The Order: Love the art by John Burns. It really seems quite old skool but in a modern way.

Savage Book 9: Not my favourite but still enjoying it. "Those aren't pillows!" "They're not plastic hammers!"

Really enjoyed that! A fun Prog to start the year.

It's that time of year again for part works to start crawling out of the woodwork.

I'm a sucker for these things, but rarely complete any collection.

I'm already down for the Judge Dredd collection but couldn't resist the £2.99 for the first part of the Build a Millennium Falcon part work.

The finished model will be huge, as will the final price tag of a minimum of £900  :o

Although I would like to give this a go the price is far too steep for me and two years of slowly building would probably try my patience too.

Thankfully that's the only part work that piqued my interest.

Prog / Prog 1912 Scar Tactics

Most unexpected  :o

Nerve Centre: Tharg welcomes us back after a seven day three week hiatus.

Dredd: Dark Justice Part 2. Stunning opening page by the Staples droid. In fact all the artwork is very snazzy indeed.

Savage: Grinders Part 2. I liked this. I liked the artwork especially with some very recognisable droids.

The Order: Part 2 Not really my cup of beverage but again, the art is lovely.

Uylsses Sweet: I thoroughly enjoyed the end of year prog episode of this so more of the same was most welcome.

Orlok Agent of East Meg One: Part 1 Good, strong start. Looking forward to seeing how this pans out.

There is a snazzy advert for the Judge Dredd collection at the back.

Now, how long do I have to wait until prog 1913? Probably awhile I fear.

Megazine / Meg #354 Spit Roast
13 November, 2014, 09:37:26 AM
Aye, aye, what's all this then?

A Megazine, delivered on a Thursday?

Not sure I should even open the bag.

It's Thursday. It just doesn't seem right.

Nice surprise though.

Prog / Prog 1887 Private Hell!
21 June, 2014, 09:43:27 AM
After last week's no show (had to go to a newsagent...Oh the shame), this week's Prog has turned up nice and early.
I don't know if it's the combination of reading it in the garden, bathed in sunlight, with a steaming hot cup of synth-caf, but this weeks Prog is a cracker.

Cover: Nick Percival's cover is quite the delight. Very eyecatching.

Nerve Centre: Tharg encourages readers to spend their credits in the Future Shop on some GN bargains. In other news Robo-K33f is a QPR supporter and immediately goes down in my estimations.

Dredd: The finale of Traumatown. Wraps up nicely. The final two panels are beautiful.

Tharg's Time Twisters: Burping Hitler. Hitler's intellect is sent back in time to when he is a baby to prevent the Allies, who have perfected a time machine of their own, from assassinating him. I liked this. Fun script from Rob Williams.

Indigo Prime: Perfect Day. Double length finale. The artwork remains astounding and the script is not far behind. This has been my favourite thrill of recent progs which is saying something as I was never a huge fan before.

Grey Area:Nearer My God to Thee part 4. Suffers slightly from the goodness that proceeded it in this week's Prog but still a solid episode. Again, love the final panel for the script.

Input: Yay! A letters page where Tharg comfirms that, in late October, there will be a winter special. Hoorah!

Really enjoyed it this week (as I have done for the past few months at least), with nary a sag in any of the stories.

Well played, Tharg. Well played.

Prog / Prog 1885 Aliens! You Want Earth?
07 June, 2014, 02:29:03 PM
Nerve Centre Tharg lets slip of a new Wagner & Ezquerra Dredd epic coming in September with Prog 1900. Colour me excited. Droid Life is, well, Droid Life.

Dredd I'm liking this a lot for both he art and the script.

Grey Area Fun and games as this one kicks it up a gear. Looking for to next week's meeting with
God
?

Slaine Slaine gets some fun dialogue in this episode courtesy of Mills. Nice opening pages too.

Tharg's 3rillers Concludes. I really enjoyed the story. Several of these 3rillers in the past have seemed a tad flat and overlong but this one hit the spot.

Indigo Prime A crackling script with very nice art. Another doozy of a double page spread I spent a good few minutes looking at.

As with the past few weeks his line up is scorching in my opinion.

Prog / Prog 1883 Severe Head Trauma
24 May, 2014, 12:19:33 PM
Came on to find out what my fellow boarders think of this week's Prog to find...Well, nothing.

Any-hoo.

Nerve Centre. Confirmation of next Wednesday's Summer Special  :D and Thrills of the Future highlights the return of Bill Savage in Savage: Grinders

Dredd Traumatown part 1. Really enjoyed this intriguing story and lovely art.

Slaine A Simple Killing. Enjoying it although it seems to be moving forward with the pace of a glacier.

Indigo prime. Another winner as far as I'm concerned. The double page spread is some lovely art right there.

Tharg's 3rillers. I'm a sucker for a time travel story. Looking forward to next weeks installment.

Outlier. The conclusion. Wraps up an interesting story. I think I may need to go back and re-read it all again as I got lost along the way but still very solid.

Overall a cracking Prog. Lovely cover too. Looking forward to Wednesday and the summer special now.

Prog / Prog 1873 Seven Against One
15 March, 2014, 11:29:03 AM
I enjoyed this weeks Prog probably the most of the year so far.
First off, lovely cover. Eye catching and, hopefully, intriguing to the prospective new buyer.
Nerve Centre is the usual. I've never been invited to a Corey Feldman party either  :(
Dredd: Fit. Loved this. Whilst I like the multi part stories I do miss the one off stories sometimes. Great stuff. Great writing and great art.
ABC Warriors: Worth it just for the blast of nostalgia (you'll understand when you see it).
Tharg's 3rillers: I enjoyed this and this wrapped up the story nicely.
Future Shocks: Again, and enjoyable tale. Dare I suggest this Prog might actually be a good jumping on point for new readers? Certainly feels like one.
Input letters page. Hoorah! Birthday greetings, memories of thrills past and Lego.
Grey Area: This has grown on me over time. A good leaving point until later in the year.
Nice ad (very retro) at the back for Prog 1874.

Nicely played, Tharg. Nicely played.

Prog / Prog 1849: All good things...
07 September, 2013, 11:58:16 AM
Must come to an end...If you like that sort of thing...Which many clearly did not.
I have clearly managed to bag this thread because of the message which was posted up on fb not so long ago; "Hi everyone, just to give you a heads up - we've had notice from our distributors that, due to problems beyond their control, Prog 1849 was a day late arriving in the warehouse and so it is unlikely that subscribers will receive their copies today. Apologies for this."

Which is ironic because my weekly Saturday Prog has, for the last four weeks, been arriving on a Monday except last weeks which arrived on a Tuesday  >:( Perhaps I am being rewarded for my patience.

As everyone knows this is a 'story end' Prog where all current story lines end and Prog 1850 is a jumping on point.

Damage Report: Sounds like Zenith is getting closer and closer...

Dredd: Ends as you would expect. Solid writing and art throughout. Is it mean or is Dredd getting soft in his old age?

Age of The Wolf: Lost the plot of this one a while back. Now it's complete perhaps I ought to try again.

The Ten-Seconders: Loved the first three episodes of this then it appeared, to me at least, to disappear up it's own backside. Again, my need to re-evaluate now that it's complete.

Slaine: Nice art from the Langley droid (although Bisley's was, imo, still the best of the six parts). I enjoyed this and the final episode is perhaps the best written of the lot.

Next week splash on the back cover. Dredd, Flesh, Damnation Station and Brass Sun. Sounds like fun!

Oh, and it's another darn variation cover, of which I snagged 2 of 2. So a trip to my local thrill merchant is in order for Wednesday after all  >:(

General / Brian Bolland: He Draws The Law
04 April, 2013, 10:03:44 AM
Just got hold of this. Any idea where is comes from.
I can only assume it's a Forbidden Planet type product but I'm probably wrong.

It contains A4 sized reproductions of Bolland's work including covers to Amazing Heroes, Time Out (both featuring Dredd), Comic Showcase advert (Joker), Forbidden Planet ads, Green Lantern and Superman covers plus a rather nifty naked lady drawing in the centre spread.

Anyone else got one? Where's it from? And how much, if anything, is it worth?

Cheers

Prog / Prog 1812 Trifecta
01 December, 2012, 10:29:31 AM
Thank Grud this turned up on time.

No spoilers from me. Just to say that this is one of the best progs I have ever read and I've read em all.

Filled with superb quotes (choose your favourite and post em up! Mine is;
Dirty Frank "Justice"
.

For my money Dirty Frank just edges out Point as the character in all this.

Totally fantastic.

Damn comic gave me goosebumps. Twice.

Classifieds / Progs 77 & 78 for auction.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=181019026984

As the auction states, these are incomplete but the Judge Dredd stories are complete.

Also throwing in a coverless copy of issue 8 and a tatty, but complete copy of issue 73.

Just seems wrong to throw them in the bin (but I would like some cash as cash is nice  :D)
