Are we going to lose one of the tentpole characters of 2000ad? A character that appears in cover montage after cover montage? Maybe there's a lot of great chat here and so a scan of votes is no real count but it looks like, pending last day votes Rogue Trooper might about to fall? I'll tell you for sure tomorrow morning.

I'm a little surprised how clear cut this one was with Skizz having a strong spell in the middle, but it was pretty short and either side of that ABC Warriors really dominated. Both are uneven thrills and for me neither topped their opening storylines. I personally really like the latter Skizz stories, I know others don't. ABC Warriors has been terribly hit and miss, but classics like Black Hole set the thrill aside for many. And with ease

Well a quick bit of digging and there seems to be some internal images to view online and Marvel Fandom has some creator details With quite a cool line-up of talent from our own Dabnett, Dermot Power, Liam Sharp, Colin MacNeil and John Higgins to other Marvel UK alumni. hmmm this is getting even more interesting...

Oh wow more I've never heard of and these look great. I wish I knew more about the content as I might then be able to justify the £30 for the one set I can se on ebay. Damn! Even then it'd be hard to justify. Still nice one to keep an eye out for and thanks again for the heads up.

Round 5 was always going to be a quickie and in two weeks we are done. I’m thinking maybe next round we’ll go to one a day to give us more time to luxuriate (or for me to prep whatever’s next if I’m honest, not had to think about that for some time!) Anyway not much else to say except a week of more bastard hard choices!

If the other tie today feels to me as tough as this Round has got this one is arguably the biggest mis-match. Can the energetic charm of Survival Geeks really match up to the singular epic that is Dante? Well we’ll find out here.

Round 5 was always going to be a quickie and in two weeks we are done. In a Round of stella ties this one for me is probably the zen… nah I can’t … the peak … or low actually as one of these will have to go. Neither of these was on my list of probable finalists, but they were on my long list for my finalists - if that makes sense. Two absolutely top draw thrills, the sad passing of Alan Grant having pulled Anderson’s early - well first 20 years! - into sharp focus and helped folks appreciate quite what an astonishing body of wotk iy was. Will that be enough though to topple the astonishing Zenith? Such a shame one of these must fall in this Round, but fall one must…

Nemesis stormed this. of course it did. But Insurrection didn't go down without a valiant last stand. It took votes were it could and while it never really stood a chance it can hold its head high. If I'm honest I'm not quite sure which way I'd have gone here as I love Nemesis, those early stories hold up to anything else in the Prog, ever. Ot did lose it way a litte in its second half. Insurrection knew from beginning to end what it was and the tale it wanted to tell and did that to absolute ... well near perfection. Whichever way this panned out it was a good result for modern thrills. As it is though this is a good result for Meg representation in later rounds. I'm thinking that Lawless will be the only 'true' Meg story we'll have left, though Fiends has of course appeared there, but is more a Prog story in my head. Thistlebone deserves all the plaudits it gets and I'm really pleased it did well here as its such a great, different new thrill. Hiowever in the end

Kingdom's .... The end is very much an admission that it could just go on and on.

Tharg has said its coming back. I guess its just a schedule issue as to when with both very busy. That said if that was the end it'd do as it worked fine, just would love to see more Kingdom.

Continuing my holiday catch up by finishing my regular comic haul while sat in the beautiful Lake District - arh does life get any better?

I hate this place 3 is a step in the right direction that buys this comic a little longer. Its not however up to Kyle Starks normal standard. Maybe I need to do a recap as to why any fu*ker is staying at that house?

Punisher 4 still not the comic I wanted it to be. However again interesting turn of events, or at least apparently so, leave this in an interesting place.

Batman: One Dark Knight 3 it has significant issues writing wise but as a showcase of Jock' are it does a lovely job.

Venom 9 I've enjoyed the Al Ewing Garden of Time stuff a lot less than the RamV work on this title but this issue crashes the two storylines together very successfully and I really enjoyed it... I'm 9 issues into a Venom series something special must be happening!

Speaking of Al Ewing Antman 1 is an absolute blast.

Alice Ever After 4 the story is heading to conclusion and is really good now. It creeps under you and I'm really looking forward to reading this in one go when its done.

Public Domain 2 is a great comic, fantastic and would be top of the pile if not for my beef of writer well immersed in the system trying to smack the system he's thriving off. Still superb way to go about it!

Superman - Space Age 1 almost 4 time the Mark Russell with 4 times the Mike Allred in this bumper sized package. Man what a delight. Its a 60s set retelling of the origin of Superman and the formation of The Justice League via Lex Luther inspired nuclear showdown. Its so, so well thought out, the format is lovely, a bigger, if slightly cheaper prestige format for those that remember . So why on earth is this beauty not top of the pile. Well my niggle with it is Mark Russell comes so much ground that even with 80 pages the quick scene cuts mean only a two of scenes get the space they deserve to breathe. It means they whole thing is an absolutely blast to read but there were bits where I'd wished the pace had stopped a little and characters had a little more room to develop. Still fantastic package and wonderful read, highly recommended.

So that leaves us two for the top of pile Time before time 15 starts the second half of this arc and this series feels far more focused with some of the bright and shiney timey whimey stuff taking a back seat to allow the characters and their more personal dilemma's to shine. Our own Rory McConville deserves you dime here. BUT its not quite book of the haul that goes again to the best comic you don't seem to be reading That Texas Blood 16 and Joe Bob and the good folks of Ambrose County really provide a wonderful example of comics at their best. Even as a serial killer, an incredibly well realised and creepy serial killer, stalks the pages of the comic, that feels fantastically secondary to the much more grounded characters. Its a brilliant series.
