Books & Comics / Re: Breakneck Issue 1
21 March, 2011, 11:09:15 AM
I've been away from the boards for a while, so I thought I should do a little housekeeping in this thread.

Issue 1 of Breakneck has been printed and is heading to comic stores around the US as we speak. My copies are currently winging their way across the Atlantic. I can't wait to see them.

Issue 2 is now accepting pre-orders. If you live in the US, or a Diamond supplied store, use order code MAR111276. We received an amazing number of preorders for issue 1, so please help us build on that with your support.

Issue 3 has been released digitally and will receive a physical release in due course (pre-orders in May), issue 4 is finished and just waiting to be listed and we have scripts ready to go up to issue 7. I can't release any details, but the story is full of twists and turns and is entertaining from start to finish.

If you want to get hold of a digital copy of Breakneck issue 1-3, just follow this link: http://www.wowio.com/215ink?txtSearch=&cbBookGroup=693A&cbBrowse=

Aside from all of that, Hollywood interest in this is still on the table. We have interest from a producer who is putting certain wheels in motion. It's far, far too early to say whether or not it will come to anything, but at this stage it's looking promising.

Anyway, why not at least have a look at the preview pages on Wowio. You like it? You buy it...

Received Complete Case Files Vol 7 & 8 today. Well chuffed.

Oh, and nipped into the hospital briefly for a scan:

Off Topic / Re: Adobe: WTF?

Yeessss! Give in to your hate!!!

Every time I use it I find some new and wonderful bug. That's Adobe though; happy to be the kind of DTP but unwilling to implement some of the most basic stuff that other programs offer. Take for example Manga Studio's rotate function. Why can't Photoshop or AI offer that?

Tardy to the party? Issues 1 & 2 are still available too! Get in on the action now before the inevitable movie* hits cinemas and you're left looking like a fool! A fool!

*No, really. The movie is a very real possibility. You will look like a fool. A fool!

Excellent idea! Out of interest, how much are we looking at for some of these commissions (average and anonymous obviously, as I wouldn't want to put the artists under any pressure to deliver for the same amount)? I've got some ideas but would like some ball park figures before looking for an artist.

Just received my copy this morning. First physical comic I have had a hand in creating. Feels good.

I need to sit down and read the whole thing later.

Haud the bus (as they say here in the frozen North)! After installing updates, lo and behold, all the lines have gone. Thank Grudd for that!

After going back and checking, it has been happening with other files since I started using my new laptop. I'm going to check out the update situation with my version of Illustrator and see if that solves anything.

Jim - I went back and made sure the original TIFF was flattened, created a new file which I then imported into AI. I'm still getting the same issue. Weirdly, the lines seem to be appearing in the same places, and when I experimented by moving the balloons slightly, the lines remain stationary. I just don't understand it. Other files I have worked on don't seem to have the same issues...

The first batch I exported were done without converting the text to outlines or flattening. It also had no anti-aliasing turned on.

This batch have the text converted to outlines and the text anti-aliasing option selected.

Oh, and they do show up when viewed in PS. The first batch were much more visible though.

Gah! Can anyone tell me how to stop these bloody lines from appearing when I export pages as tiffs? Since moving over to my new laptop, it's started doing it and for the life of me, I can't make it stop.

The lines are not in the original art files. They seem to be cropping up in the export process. For clarity, here are the export settings. Files are being exported in CMYK and are destined for print.

Help!

Voted again. Joseph's still in second place! Going to be a photo finish I think.

The theory in the article seems sound to me apart from the example of Comic Sans. CS is a very legible (if ugly) font so surely something like a cursive font would be less legible and thus more useful in this regard?
