I'd have to give a recommend to Midnight Nation.  Nice little read and very underrated for my money.  Nice artwork and an interesting story.

Your answer is correct... Gnomes in their original fairytale conception were indeed spirits.  Blame C. S. Lewis and that saucy Wil Huygen for your modern confusion!

That was the bit that threw me for a while as well.  BTW thanks for correcting my misquote.

D'oh!  ::)

I even tried saying it out loud, but didn't twig that.  :-[

Me too, DDD!  :-[

Sorry, working from memory in early hours of morning with hangover.  Always a good combination, yes?  ::)

It's like Twoflower's comments about his work in either Colour of Magic or the Light Fantastic.  Inn Sewer Ants was easy but for a long time I didn't get  'Repeating Sound of Underground Spirits'.

Especially as it's "Reflected-sound-of-underground-spirits"...  ;)

<rant> Went for a burton while running this morning (see sports is bad for your health!).  Wife is convinced that it is broken but still able to walk (although somewhat painful) so not really sold.

After extensive research I have surmised that when you went for a run either a) there was a fatality or b) you went for a beer en route.  Either way, hope your situation improves...

c - tripped and fell.  Improving.  Swollen as hell but not painful any more.

[my apologies to anyone who is actually a member of a school leadership team, I'm sure there are some decent ones out there somewhere and one day I will actually meet one]

Books & Comics / Re: No more Comic Heroes

Giving this a miss.  I was within a hairs breadth of cancelling it before they folded last time round.  It tended to be more of a current Marvel Superhero film promo most of the time.  Their article about the Apocalypse War was particularly poor I thought.  About as much depth as one of the poorer Titan graphic novel introductions.

I would love to see more authors return to his sharp style of prose. All these mega books and series are getting tiresome.

Amen.  Why the hell does everyone have to try and out-Tolstoy War and Peace?  The beauty of the likes of Clarke, Asimov, Heinlein, Harrison, Bradbury etc was the pace (okay, Heinlein could write a good couple of breeze blocks as well).  They may have been trite, cliched at times, poorly characterised .. but dammit, they were fun!  I've started a Clarke binge recently and been reminded of how enjoyable his work can be.  I gave up on Game of Thrones because they were so bloody boring!

I have to be honest, I read the title and thought this was a discussion about toilet problems at Twickenham. :-[

Hope the eventual City of the Damned collection has the colour spreads. Instant purchase if so!

wouldn't bank on it based on their current track record.  :|

Yes I guess so, would like to see the Angel gang and certainly the two you mention. Seem to recall a story where humans were being used as food, little like Soylent Green?

Wasn't that a Siku drawn strip?  Something to do with the creature from the Post Apocalypse War Thing tale where Dredd ended up impregnated.  Dredd managed to avoid being hypnotised because of his bionic eyes and paired up with a bite fighter.  Part of the plot was to do with a new teleport system that was being tried out and being hijacked.

Ordered Season 1 on blu-ray.

When the announcement that they had finally decided to release season 2 came out I went looking at the season 1 price again.  Down to £25 so decided to take a punt.  They really have cleaned it up nicely with the added bonus that you can play all where the DVD had you watching an episode at a time.  The sound mix is quality too.  And as has been mentioned previously, the theme tune really does rock, especially with the remastering.

There have been attempts to remake / redo this for a good few years now and I believe there is a website dedicated to it.  Last I looked it didn't look like it had been updated in along while so I guess that one is not going to happen.  Shame!

Is it just me or is the head angle on every one of Buttonman's pics exactly the same?
