There's an interesting sounding documentary on DH Lawrence tonight on Radio 3. Specifially it's about his aborted stay in Cornwall during which his shocking city ways led to the natives forcing him out.

I've got the house to myself tonight so I can indulge without fear of scorn or worse a nagging chorus of 'This is boooooring. Give me the remote'. Could be worth an hour of your time. Equally as much it might not.

Watched early last morning and was fortunate enought to catch the first episode.

About a wealthy fellow who runs a casino, games parlor in what I would think to be BlackPool. With hsi family. Some place close to the beach. Bit of a prick he is also.

There's nothing really grittily depressing about this show like lot of other show these days. As the first episode is about homicide investigation and the people connected to this.

To spice it up abit. The main characters perform the accompaning music.

David Tenant made a appearence as a Police Detective. Though you'd be forgiven if you couldn't tell him from his Dr Who character. Except for the slight change in his wardrobe which still suits his Dr Who persona. His clothing, something fashioable with a dark trench coat. He manner still very much the same, perhaps not as flippant. Not that I should find this unwelcome. He adds to the shows interest as he sings as well.

I quite enjoyed the forehead duel, while singing up against the main character.

It was on another thread that I suggested they put abit of singing into 'Life on Mars' as it's been named after a David Bowie song and all.http://bestuff.com/images/images_of_stuff/210x600/blackpool-tv-series-3974.jpg">

Those Cornish DXB.. they're monsters the lot of them.

have you seen Straw Dogs?

They're all like that !!

Something Fishy

Actually sounds very interesting DXB and i'm fascinated to hear more of the ignorance and parochiality of my forebears (something the local hisory is quite honest about when it comes to him).

Well it seems it wasn't all the Cornish, just the local vicar. But during war time, with a German wife, and a penchant for mocking Christianity...well it was bound to happen.

I've always liked Lawrence, really thought his attitude to sexuality in his novels is fascinating. That's depsite the accusations of mysoginy, or maybe I'm a mysoginist.

I'm a misogynist and so's my wife!

uh..

I got The Rainbow a bit back and if I'd read it would probably want to listen to the Radio 3 broadcast.

Alas I lost it again.

All you need to know abou The Rainbow in terms of this stage in his life is that it caused controversya nd lef to him running away. I recommend Women in Love by the way. Got a spare copy somewhere.
