In the first of hopefully a few interviews with comics professional, Chris Weston has started to get involed with the interviewing lark.  His first target is Atavar artist Richard Elson.  For a very revealing and entertainig interview, click the link.  And while you're there, check out his own interview too.

And I'd also like to welcome Leigh Shepherd as the regular 2nd Megazine reviewer (and synopsis writer for this issue).  WR Logan's been snowed under a bit lately, but will hopefully be back as the regular 2nd opnion on the weekly soon.

Enjoy!  And please tell me what you think!

Help! / Help needed for 2000AD review
26 March, 2003, 06:23:24 PM
For any of those who have checked out my site - I'm in a bit of a quandry.  I need to put together the review for megazine 204 - but I've lost my copy!

Could anyone help me out massively by doing the synopsis for Meg 204?  And maybe a review if possible (I can still remember enough of it to do a second opinion).

Let me know if anyone's interested - and follow the link for examples of previous reviews.

Ta!

Just bumping this up for anyone who hasn't seen it - as I think it's really worth reading.

Should have a John Higgins interview coming up in a few weeks time too - with many more planned for later in the year.

General / New Chris Weston Interview
04 March, 2003, 05:49:56 AM
Hi - just to let everyone know - I've just updated the 2000AD Review site with the latest artist interview - Chris Weston.

He makes for a great interviewee - and it's well worth taking a look.

I agree - if you're going to reprint - make it something hard to find.

Suggestions / Re: LETS PROMOTE THE SITE,...........

How about putting the URL in the logo on the comic?  Or heavily advertise it on page 2?  Every week?

Let's face it - how many people look at the barcode, expecting to find the URL there?

Well, my main reason for setting up the 2000AD Review website was because I was unemployed for a long time and decided that - as a web editor - I needed to get my skills up to speed again.  So I went searching for a good topic, as opposed to starting from the position of "I must do a 2000AD website now!!"  I looked around and thought that 2000AD was poorly supported online on a regular basis (excluding the official site) and that there was great scope for some interesting content there.

The summaries in the beginning of the comic were also starting to irritate me, in that they really didn't help a new reader to catch up with important aspects of an ongoing story.  So I felt a weekly review & summary would ensure that I could create a site where people would come back week after week and get new material.

The interviews basically support that - and offer another reason for people to visit the site.  I also like to feel that the interviewees shouldn't be inclined to follow the Rebellion party line.  As for spoilers - the reviews are full of them (I really should put up a warning...) and can occasionally be scathing too (see me on Bec & Kawl or WR Logan on Sin/Dex).

As time goes past, I'm becoming more and more addicted to updating the site - and while there are times I wish I didn't have to do the summaries, it's almost become something of a duty - as well as helping to hone my writing and web skills.

Does that rambling answer make sense? I think I just feel that the magazine should be doing more to help the site.  Mind you, my sister runs the Empire Online site, and she's had her share of battles (as have I in previous jobs), so magazines not supporting the online side shouldn't surprise me.

I have to admit - the reason I started up my own site was because of the lack of truly unique features on the official site.  I felt there was a big gap in the market, waiting to be filled.  I've been running the site casually for 4 months now, and managed to get 4 exclusive interviews, as well as two more due in the next month.  And don't forget the Q&As over at Ximoc.co.uk too.  Between both of us, that's more content led features than the site's managed since I've been looking at it.

And as for the message board - this is possibly the best part of the official site - so why is it hidden within the depths?  No wonder it isn't used as often as it should be - no-one can find it!

Don't get me wrong - the site is quite an incredible piece of work when you start to delve into it - especially with the vast amount of information contained within - but is this going to attract new or casual fans?  And A great deal could be done to improve certain usability aspects of the site (that pop up "thumbs up" thing when you post a message is incredibly confusing at first, as is the fact that news headings don't link to stories) But why isn't the publication supporting it more??? -I mean it's also the easiest bloody way to get a subscription!!  More money for the mag!! And Wake has to scan in the mag every week?  That's madness!!

The recent "coming soon" article was a step in the right direction - but we need much, much more. And I don't mean more job adverts either...

Any idea who would know for sure?

(PS. I've been to the board quite a few times, but my site takes up far too much time now...(blatant plug))
