A Question About Helicopters

Hi all. I have a question about the following photo, and thought someone here might have the answer, being as the knowledge contained within these pages is diverse and varied and the like.

So, those vaguely cylindrical/conical bits above the doors and below the propellers, what are they?‏

I'm passing this question on from my girlfriend, who is currently writing a story about a helicopter and wanted to know what they were. When passing back the above answers she said "No, they go on his arms!"

Needles to say, the story involves robots.

Cheers Minkyboy, we suspected it would be something like that. Would they be basicly the same as ones on planes?
