That's brilliant. A big thank you to everyone who has contributed.

The lead character is supposed to be a bit of an artist himself - a bit like Tim from SPACED. And in the same way that Spaced used Simon Bisley's art, I'd really like it if I could get a couple of pieces commissioned for the show.

But that would only happen if my script gets selected, if I get a say in who the artist would be, if the artist has the availability/interest to do it and if the budget can afford them.

A lot of ifs in there, but hey, that's part of the fun.

Thanks again - I'm off to write the second act.

Wow, impressed with the speedy replies. Looks like Mr. Holden gets listed first  :D

I hadn't even realised Rufus was from Northern Ireland.  :-[

Thanks for the input.

Best wishes

Hi Everyone,

I'm writing a 1 hour drama for a BBC NI competition and the main character is a huge fan of 2000ad (aren't we all ;)).

He's listing off his favourite 2000ad Artists who come from Northern Ireland, and I was just wondering if anyone here has a particular favourite.

Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

Best wishes

Darren

Quote7 3 S K ??????

I was going for 73 = Best Wishes, and SK = End of transmission - though in the last one at least, I believe I shouldn't have put a pause between the S and K. I obviously still have a lot of practicing to do before this nuclear holocaust!

To set all the non-morsecoder's mind at rest - Commando Forces wasn't confirming that Elmer Fudd was going to pay Dredd - though you probably guessed that already  ;)

not necessarily as there is no character for seven dots. In a Morse code transmission if you make an error and wish to end transmission then it's
........   .- .-.
EEEEEEEE AR

The fallacy being that this still makes your original 7 Es comment just as wrong (or as I prefer, just as right) as mine - as the error code is 8 dots :P

That said, it's pulling this thread a tad off topic, so whatever you say, I was merely wanting to build on your original funny comment - not get into a debate.

If it was 5I or HS there would be prominent gaps between the dots.

..... ..  5I
.... ...  HS

..-. ..- -.-. -.-      --- ..-. ..-.

Now there's no need for that sort of language!

Beside the same argument would hold up for the 7 Es! :P

I've just done a lovely Ezquerra themed blog entry. It's impossible to do the man justice!

Excellent work.

.......

Sorry that reads EEEEEEE in morse code.

Pheww! For a second I thought it was "5I" "HS", or even worse "SH". ;-)

Glad the movie's still on track.

QuoteI thought there was a Forbidden Planet in Belfast. Has it closed?

Hi OpusAndBill,  I believe that Forbidden Planet is still open in Ann Street (it was one of the ones I was thinking of - the other one was in the Smithfield Market) - though neither were around in my youth.

Regarding Dark Horizons, I found this which might be of interest:

QuoteSadly, we've only got two left. Hyperspace (nicknamed Hyperinflation due to the way it hiked the price of stuff up like 400%) went under. Dark Horizons went under because someone lit a fire and it set of sprinklers which caused steam to ruin the comics, Talisman is still there but it's now forbidden planet so it's like a toy store but with comics. Impulse comics is in smithfield, it's great.
