Week 4 has the full range of ties. From probably one of the most one sided match-ups we will see this round... and when I say probably, I mean definitely. To a couple of absolute stinkers. There is as you might imagine plenty in between as well.

A John Smith classic was included in a very tough draw yesterday and the opener today is no different. Revere might not be quite so universally revered as Indigo Prime, but then Fiends is no Nemesis, so on paper this is just as tricky a tie as that one. The form book doesn't help much either, with Fiends having faced Bob Byrne's Twisted Tales and Revere spitting glass in the face of Sam(antha) Slade in Round 2.

Just reply in this thread naming your favourite thrill of these two series at the beginning of your post (or use Bold tags so I can spot it easily) and say what you like about these wonderful stories after that.

Match ends early on the morning of Sunday 5th June and the winner gets a place in Round 4 (of 9!!!).

What on Earth is ALL of this?

For those that need 'um and can be bothered to follow 'um there's some simple rules

Any questions, just ask as ever - and have FUN

When I die, I want to die like my grandfather who died peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming like all the passengers in his car.

Old age is the Lord's way of telling us to step aside for something new. Death's in case we didn't take the hint.

Revere. In the event of an apocalypse, along with my shelf of Slaines, a few selected Dredds, Nemesis, Brink and all the collected Sinister Dexters (trades, floppies, etc) Revere would be among the comics I'd shove in q backpack before making my way down to the shelter.

Ezquerra-created vampires vs. the witch-boy of London....this is so difficult. However a decision must be made and I'm going to stick to my love of the Smithiverse with Revere.

I like Revere a lot. It's imaginative and beautiful. It tries something new. But Fiends went from a quirky little one-off that barrelled along to a far more wide-ranging series that has more than a bit of the Mignola about it. Although it's currently descended a bit too much into "immortal beings kick the shit out of each other", it's still great.

On balance, I think I'd rather re-read Fiends more often, and so it takes it by that slender margin.

Revere for me. That first book of Fiends is glorious horror fun, but Revere is like, ART, man.

'Aha! You thought I, Baba Yaga, was behind it all, but it was in fact I, Rasputin! Aha! You thought I, Rasputin, was behind it all, but it was in fact I, Cain! Aha! You thought Cain was a mere man? I am in fact a crocodile-monster! Aha...etc etc'

A year ago I'd have voted Fiends, but it's really started to annoy me recently. Vampires and warfare - why isn't that enough?

So it comes down to Edginton's dilution of GFD's concept versus the clarity of Smith and Harrison's. Revere wins it - it came, it told its tale, it departed.

Fiends of the Eastern Front. The classic Ezquerra and MacNeil series are the best and get my vote (which are greatly enhanced by the Bishop novels).
