General / Re: New 2000ad Logo?
06 June, 2014, 04:20:11 PM
hello everyone,
just thought I had to join in on this, as I inadvertently kicked off the topic of conversation and would like to elaborate a little bit on my/our thinking about the logos.

Firstly, thank you for all the comments, both positive and negative - I agree with many of the points being raised here, especially the 'this font will date quickly' stuff about the sci-fi special. Keep em coming - I'll take on board (within reason!) any input you guys have, and once I have something worth showing I'll post it up.

In general though - we're gonna keep the '2 logo' thing, although as I said on the podcast I would like to make the red 2000ad badge more of a brand for 2000ad publishing and products as a whole, (like DC or Marvel use their logos) rather than specifically as the logo for the Prog, so I want add it to the cover of the Megazine too, and keep it running on all the Gns and merchandise - Then have separate, text-based logos for each of the magazines.

In the roughs I've been working on the badge then becomes a bit smaller on the cover (about 1/2 the size it is currently) but would NEVER get covered by the art, as I also want to add the issue/date info under it, for ease of flicking through big boxes of comics etc. If you look at the covers for the US one-shots we put out recently (dredd: underbelly and brass sun) you'll see kinda where I'm going.

Much as I love the old logos too (especially the very first one, and the square from c. Prog 700 - when i started reading) I wont be reinstating them any time soon - although I'd like to tip my hat to them a little bit if possible, and have tried a few things out in this vein... I'll see how that goes though. I think maybe an all or nothing approach might be best?

anyway - thanks again, I hope when I finally do have something that I'm happy with that you chaps dig it too!
cheers

Hi chaps, sorry for the shameless pimp, but Tharg's just made me aware of this thread - by a weird co-incidence I've just had some A3 prints done of that art to sell (I was grumbling myself that nothing had been done with it -  bar a banner in the Never Centre that no-one but us ever sees - so i took things into my own hands after being asked about prints by a few guys on Facebook). If you're interested PM me and i'll sort one out for you. I can't do huge numbers but I have a few going spare.
I'll take a pic in a sec so you can see what you'd be getting.

thanks pete! (and everyone else)
I posted that on my blog for a day or so, but then towed the party line and took it down when we thought the tees where still being made so it was a nice suprize. As time has drifted on though it seemed a waste for no one to ever see it, so I gave it to the shewolfreads blog when they asked me for an interview. Never thought to repost it somewhere where you chaps could check it out (idiot), so sorry about that.
I mockup quite a lot of things that never see the light of day. Might be cool to show them in a bit of a 'what if...' thing.
hmm...

Hello everyone! due to various reasons I'm stuck inside working instead of playing the xbox and drinking enjoying the sunshine...

Anyway, I have a fairly urgent request which I'm hoping one or more of you can help me with!
I desperately, desperately need half decent cover scans of Progs 766 and 862, plus the best picture available of judge dredd from a panel or 2 in the episode in Prog 1067 (spawney? I have no idea what the art looks like off the top of my head but i need a fairly square picture to fill some space).

It's for a book we're putting together, which is desperately overdue, and i'm stuck at home with no access to the work archive. This is a bit of a last ditch attempt, as otherwise i'll have to take the plunge and drive the 60+ miles to the nerve centre tomorrow morning.

If you can help please let me know. I'd need the scans at 300 dpi, and at 100% size, but please don't worry about doing the colour correction/sharpening etc or using any scanner settings that do the same - I can sort that out myself.

This will be a largely thankless task, but much appreciated by a stressed out design-bot well into his 10th hour of unpaid overtime!

cheers chaps

Another highlight is the subscription add. I love the disclaimer text. "Commissioned by the Infernal Molchiavellin PR Departmenet of Rebellio IV". Ho, ho, ho!

Thanks! Currently waiting for Molch-R to see that...

I've spammed various topics with this already, but I'm just trying to make sure as many of you check it out as possible - but as promised (and a bit later than intended) here's the link to that YouTube video I wrote about in the Damage Report:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pM_uFsAnp0w

To give this some history, Robo-K33f heard this on talk radio years ago when he was at uni, and played it to us in the old office. One of his mates (Paul Linn the guy who's posted this on youtoob) works at a media monitoring station and managed to find a recording for him which he treasures to this day.

For some reason we remembered it the other day, and hunted out Keef's cassette in his unruly labyrinthine desk drawers. We were about to upload it ourselves but did a search on google first and voila! It popped up!

Our aim is to get it as many views as possible by the end of July, as the galactic phenomenon of The Baby Alan Jones needs to be heard by all. When we started it had had less than 500 views in 2 years, and I want to see what we can get that up to, so spread the word!

...And listen to it to the end - it gets REALLY weird.

I should point out the text on the letters page is from an old Input a few weeks ago - it's not new, just a placeholder so I could make sure i left enough room in the design! Likewise on the Nerve Centre. Defoe for example, is not set in the old west...
