For those interested in meeting up for a festive pint, and a good chin wag about 2000AD, the next meeting will be Saturday 20th December at 12pm.
The venue is the Lobby Bar at the Europa Hotel, Belfast.
It's the perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon, plus you can finally get round to doing your Christmas shopping afterwards. Everyone is welcome, even if you only want to pop in to say hello.
Check out our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Belfast2000addiscussiongroup
I am thinking of bringing down the first 4 Strontium Dog books and having a free draw to increase the fun a wee bit. Z
Show-off bastard with your non-RSI'd hands and arms - how is that fun?
I can't make the evening outings as I frown on drunk-driving, but I'm looking into making it to this one.
Excellent AA I keenly look forward to your contribution and devil may care sense of wit. So the rest of you lads and lassies get motivated. Proteus, Prodigal, King Pops et Al that is. Z
Remember to let people know about this.
This is a new group, and needs all your support.
I hope you have all 'liked' The Belfast 2000AD Discussion Group on your Facebook.
I also hope you're all enjoying the rubbish pictures I have been posting there.
iPads aren't the best for playing about with pictures.
See you all tomorrow. Who all can make it?

Whoa there! ;)
The Lobby Bar doesn't serve alcohol until 12.30, so the meeting has been moved to the upstairs bar in the Europa Hotel.
See you there!
Meeting underway in upstairs bar. Z
Where is everyone?
The mince pies are horrible!
We have moved back down to the Lobby Bar. The pints are a few pennies cheaper there!!
Pished, extolling the several virtues of Gordon Rennie.....burp!! Z
There's a Belfast discussion group now? I might join youse uns for a pint someday.
M.
Hic...!!
Well, today's wee meeting had low attendance numbers. Just me and Zen Arcade.
Are there no other 2000AD fans in Northern Ireland?
To be fair, that's still two more than the average Cal-Hab meet-up. And that's usually after about six weeks of 'planning'.
Right, I'll endeavor to make it to a meet soon as I can. I've usually got other shite to do, but I'm sure I could swing it now and again.
M
I think with it being the saturday before Christmas it was understandably low attendance. The Craic and discussion however was good. Z
Time to start planning the next meet up.
Anyone suggest a day for this month?
Say the word kiddo, some Saturday nearer the end of the month, so we can get a couple of progs under our belts? We need to fqctor.in the eldster continent in the Europa this time. Z
Dredd breaks down barriers in Belfast!
Whilst behind him sinister, agendaised vermin build them right back up....but then on the horizon Judge Russell; Judge Zen; Judge Proteus; Judge Prodigal; Judge Allah Akbark; Judge King Pops; Judge PJ Holden; Judge Will Simpson; SJS Judge Richmond and others line up the bike cannons and blast the walls right back down again. Hurrah!!!. Z :D
How does Saturday, 31st January sound for the next meet up?
Everyone will have been paid, and there should be no excuses.
Europa Lobby Bar, 12.30pm?
Yep. Suits me. Z
It's not set in stone. The Saturday before May be more suitable.
I really want to get a decent number of people.
I let Jack know earlier - pimping this along with the Southers Event in March & the one I'm putting together in Leeds. Post on mi blog but you all already know about these events so not linking to it.
3 Events 1 per month. Someone should do them all!!!
JANUARY DISCUSSION GROUP MEETING
The next meeting of the Belfast 2000AD Discussion Group will be on Saturday, 31st January.
The location will be The Europa Lobby Bar.
The group will be there from 12.30, so please come along.
Come along and say hi.
The new improved logo.
I'm thinking of getting some patches made up, so if anyone can direct me to a good company that does that sort of thing, that'd be great.
Excellent stuff, that looks like a fine pint of stout. Z
Time for judgement!
Potential? Z
It looks like we will have record numbers at the next meeting.
Can't wait!
That is wonderful news, I'm really looking forward to meeting and talking with other prog fans. Z
Looking forward to seeing all the people tomorrow.
Record numbers are going!
Are Bear and Dickhead the dog going?? Z
Too young to drink. And so is the dog, etc.

Awww isn't she just a heartbreaker. Z :D
Fear not, fellow Squaxxs, although the Lobby bar is currently a building site, we are meeting upstairs in the Piano Bar.
See you there!
Having a great time!
Well that was fun. The devil of it was having to leave early. Good discussion on a series of issues. Couple of nice pints of stout. What more could a squax ask for. Z ;)
NIt's time to start planning the next meeting.
The last Saturday of the month is the 28th February.
Does this suit most people?
Any requests for this month's meeting?
Don't forget to check out the Facebook page, and share with friends!
Sounds good to me. Z
Requests: The Al Ewing thread is quite popular. Lets all discuss our favourite Ewing Dredds. Z
Borag Thung, and what about ye?!
The next meeting of T2DG (The 2000AD Discussion Group) will be on Saturday, 28 February.
We will be in the newly revamped Lobby Bar, at the Europa Hotel, Belfast. (Hopefully they've finished the building work. If not, we'll be upstairs in the Piano Bar)
People will start arriving from about 12.30, so please come along.
Oh, and don't forget to tell your friends. The more, the merrier!
Splundig Vur Thrigg
See you all tomorrow.
I'll be bringing some nice items for people to look at.
What items, you say?
You'll have to wait and see.
We'll also have a brief moment to remember the recent passing of our two seminal artists. Z
Right Drokkers, get your skates on for 12.30 front bar in Europa, we'll discuss recent Progs and Megs and reminisce on friends departed. Z
Piano bar on first floor.
A good time was had by all!
Well that was fun (even if I could only stay for but a while). Lots of people attended the B2KADDG including Judge Dredd (which was nice). We had our usual convivial chat, discussing recent progs and various Thargy miscellany. Jack's Thrill Power Overload with a huge amount of artist and writers signatures was a highlight.
Progs 33: Brett Ewins first cover and Prog 298: John Coopers only cover were produced and we talked of their works and vast contributions. We took a moment to have a couple of photos of the group with the progs as a small rememberance. JudgeRussell will fill in on more details of the lads and lassies and the craic had after I left. Gurrr.
It just remains for us to invite anyone interested along next month for a fun and relaxed meeting and discussion. Z :D
Well NI squax, I am honoured to act pro tem for our group convenor Judge Russell who alas cannot attend this months B2KADDG. It will be held this Saturday in the front bar of the Europa Hotel on Great Victoria Street at 12:00. I will proffer up recent Progs and this months Meg for erudite discussion over a few pipes of tobacco and a glass or two of Port wine. Be there and be square. Z
For this Saturday read next Saturday 29/03/15. I'm running ahead of myself and it gives people more time to make arrangements to attend. I'll post up on our Facebook page tomorrow (even though I haven't a clue about Facebook. Z :-\
Saturday 28th March 2015
Double oops there. Cheers Bat. Z
You're in my 'Meet up' blog article thingmy.
Your lobby bar doesn't open until 12.30, and Saturday is the 28th. Lol
Your thrill levels must be running low Zen.
That's what too much Savage does to you. ;) The lobby bar is still closed so it'll be upstairs again. Z
So nust a reminder to NI Squax, the discussion will commence at 13:00 in the up stairs bar in the Europa. Look forward to the craic. Z
I might be able to make it for a bit.
I hope the lobby Bar is open.
Good lad Jack, I'm doing some work this am, but will be in upstairs bar at 13:00. I'll bring the progs etc. Z
Good wee meeting lots discussed.
We talked about recent Progs/Megs and agree that the Meg is producing some fantastic stuff at the moment:Cop, Angelic and Mean Machine; the Prog less so, but the prospect of 1924 has Belfast Squax salivating.
We moved on to ret conning and the attempts over the past 38 years to form chronologically contigious shared worlds (particular emphasis on Dredd/Strontium Dog/Robusters/ABC Warriors/Nemisis/Ace Trucking Co). We talked of early mentions in Robusters of the building of the Mega City in the USA, through the Judgement Day crossover to recent Savage (no pun) efforts. The view here is that they generally are more of the nature of ad hoc patchwork rather than seemless dovetails, and would be better not attempted as they come across as cumbersome and lessen enjoyment of good standalone strips.
On a far more positive note, we loved the 1923 Dredd as it was a real hearkback to the off the wall zanyness of the early strip. I hasten to add however that Block Judge with it's taut plotting and fine artwork is also a very firm recent favourite.
We ended up the meeting by visiting a new comic shop in the Spires Centre. It stocks pretty much all Marvel/DC comics (good back selection), alas no 2000AD, but hopefuly that'll change. The owners have put a lot of effort into the venture and we wish them all success.
So untill next month. Z ;)

I have been doing a bit of a Robusters, ABC Warriors and Nemesis re-read, and with the recent run of Savage in the Prog as well, have been giving its shared world a bit of thought. To me its the only one in 2000AD that I pay much attention to.
Obviously ABC Warriors was planned as a Robusters spin off from the start, but if you re-read Hammerstein's war memories in Robusters from only about a year earlier, it seems to me that Pat hadn't thought of ABC Warriors yet, given for example there is no ABC Warriors logon on Hammerstein's shoulder at that point. Indeed I would guess it was that story that inspired ABC Warriors in the first place.
I actually missed the start of ABC Warriors and so bought the Titan reprint from 1983. In the intro to that it said it was unlikely the ABC Warriors would be back, which was a huge disappointment at the time. It was then a big surprise when they appeared in Nemesis. Not sure at what point it was decided to tie Savage into it, but given that Invasion was about the Volgan invasion of Britain, Hammerstein's war memories were about the war against the Volgans and the first few episodes of ABC Warriors were also about war with the Volgans (albeit these were set later than Invasion), I guess the link was always there between Robusters, ABC Warriors and Invasion / Savage. Despite that, the continuity is a just a tad convoluted in my opinion. The whole thing with Hammerstein's head has never made sense to me either. (Of course the truth is probably that the original head was just deemed too naff for a hard as nails war-bot ).
I kinda like to ignore any links between Dredd and Stront. And even more so any links between Dredd and Stront and Robusters/ ABC Warriors/Invasion / Savage.
I must have missed the link to ACE Trucking. What was that?
Other series that are linked are:
- The Red Seas and Stickleback (although I haven't re-read enough to make the links other than Orlando Doyle)
- Dead Eyes and Indigo Prime. An easier link here, with the link only revealed on the last page of Dead Eyes (as a cliff hanger).
I would be interested to hear what you discussed / what you make of it all.
Will have a bit of a recap later. Ace Trucking includes an episode where a shipment of frozen Kleggs thaw out with the usual hilarious results....oh tucker trucker how I miss you. Z
I have a cunning plan!!
What do people think of the next meet up being on Saturday 2nd May, at Belfast Comic Con?
There will be a bar in the event, and it's a great way to promote the group!
Plus, we can all chat about how we are going to publicly flog the Eastenders cast for daring to show their faces at a Comic Con!
Yep, sounds cool. Z
Who all is going to comic con in Belfast?
Lads, I'm always working when this is on, but I will say this:
I moved house at the start of the month, unfortunately, a great many progs and comic miscellany did not make the move.
Just check the charity shops on the Lisburn road is all I'm saying
You should pop down and have a yarn with us. Z
Would that I could, but Saturdays tend to be busy in my line of work.
Yeah, funny you should say, we talked about that at the last B2KADDG meet and we'd be interested in what days suit most squax. Z
You could all go to where Pops works! One of these days Ill drive up....
Everything is discussable. Z

Ah, here now,
me using Rebellion's publi

hugely crass and probably unet
hical.
So I won't do that.
Ok, calling all Squaxx. The next B2KADDG will be held in MHUGGS. That's near McHugh's. Z
I think I am keeping up...
I know a few guys who would snap them up in an instant!
Hmmm I go for a walk up the Lisburn Rd and over Belmont and down the Malone. Must do some windows shopping. Z
Nb don't worry Bat, if you wish I'll translate.
Pimpage done on yer May meet-up.
I'll figure out June when it comes. Though you'll likely throw in a late May one just fer the heck of it.
Good man yerself, Bat King.
You're one a the good uns, so you is!
Oh dear lord! I'd forgotten you'd shared those photos from February on here (only just joined), it's still crushing to my soul that my head just doesn't fit that helmet!
Looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday at Belfast Comic Con!
Looking forward to it, somebody'd need to jump quick and secure us some table space at the bar. Z
I'll just beat them out of the way, using the severed arm of Kat Slater.
I meant to ask, out of those of you who I've met, who all is on here and under which names...?
Well there's......
I'm Zen the grey haired 45 year old; Judge Russell is the young buck the rest will become evident at the sat meeting. Z
I'm never there but I hang around waiting to see what you crazy kids get up to next. And I try to help publicise the group on my blog.
Thanks Zen, good to know that's you! Have to say this forum is so much different than any others - it's actually full of decent people(!), so I'm hoping to stick around.

Bat King! It's keeping me sufficiently entertained at work today.
Cheers OiNK!
Attention Citizens!!!
The next meet up for the B2DG will be on Saturday, 30th May, at 1pm in The Lobby Bar (Europa Hotel, Belfast).
This month we will be discussing the recent Progs and Megs, plus, the world's only Judge Dredd Convention, Lawgiver Mk 2.
Lawgiver is being held in Bristol's Hilton Double Tree hotel on 25th May. A few of our members will be attending, and we can't wait to hear how the event went.
Everyone is welcome. The craic will be great!
Normal services will now resume.....
Normal?
I'll be there, having missed out on the last two. Looking forward to it. But what happened to the change of venue? ;)
Lobby Bar was the original venue, back in the days. Z
A change of venue was mentioned, but as nobody suggested anywhere else, the Lobby Bar will have to do (for now).
The B2DG meet up is this Saturday, in the Lobby Bat, at 1pm.
I can't wait to see you all there.
If there are any other Northern Ireland Squax who want to attend, please do so. It'll be a blast!
While I'll be on the non-alcoholic beverages, I say we still raise our glasses to propose a toast... to no more American Reaper.
And a fine toast it was too. Judge Russell will post the photo directly. Z
For three of us the 'day' ended a bit later, after dinner... later still for Judge Russell and myself. A good day all round, even if I still say we should've stayed put at Wetherspoons to enjoy the... company... Jack!
Yay. No more American Reaper!!
That's right! I forgot about 'The Company".
They were very good looking, but I'd just put my coat on when they sat down. I didn't want to seem like a desperate man. (Which I very much am)
I think they'd caught on as we both kind of... paused.... before leaving. Maybe they would've thought it cute if we had, or more likely maybe would've moved tables instead!
Borag Thung, and What About Ye!?
Last month's meeting was good fun. We raised a toast to the end of American Reaper (Thank Grud that's over!) and discussed the possible endings for Dredd.
Will he die in a blaze of glory, or trip over a step and bump his head? Who knows! (Well, John Wagner probably does).
We moved on to Wetherspoons for the football, and were secretly hoping for a few jet-packs to be brought out, and a game of Aeroball to begin.
Then it was on to Filthy McNasty's for a quick pint under a patio heater, while being drizzled on.
We wrapped it up and discussed the plans for next month. We have noticed there are a few Bangor Squaxx who have liked the Facebook page, so we are thinking on a change in location, to try and draw them in. Possibly Bangor, maybe Newtownards. More details will follow.
Until next month,
Slundig Vur Thrig!
Next meeting decisions.........
I'm thinking a trip to Newtownards?
Who's up for it?
This month's meeting will be in Newtownards, at the Wetherspoons.
Roll call will be taken at 2pm sharp.
See you all there!!
Piss! I keep forgetting about this! Did you make it to Ards?
M.
I made it to ards, but nobody else did, lol.
The next meeting is on the evening of Friday 31 July, at the QFT.
They will be showing Future Shock, the 2000AD documentary.
Book your tickets now!!
Me and a few of the lads are deff gonna be there. We could have a few scoops in Laverys before and after. Z
That sounds like a plan, although, I will be driving.
I will be bring some old progs for people to carefully look at, from a distance, with gloves on, behind bullet proof glass.
Glad you made it out of Ards ok...I'm kinda stuck there there!
Was just about to post about the Futureshock screening - with any luck, I'll be there.
M
Hope some of the guys wear their Judge uniforms??? Z
Ticket booked. Can't wait. Z
The next meeting of the Belfast 2000AD Discussion Group will be on Friday, 31st July.
It is set to coincide with the screening of Future Shock, the 2000AD documentary, being shown at the Queen's Film Theatre.
We will be meeting at The Parlour Bar at 7pm for a few pre-show beverages, so please come along to say hi.
Attendance is mandatory. No excuses allowed. Thrill suckers will be set upon any who cannot make it, (especially you James McBride. Sitting there. Sunning yourself on holiday. Drinking beer and having fun!)
There may also be a special guest...... Who knows??!!!!
Check out the Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/events/898520656850070/
The tad's are converging on citizen McBrides location as we speak Judge Russell. Targeting operative Z
I hope you're all looking forward to this Friday's meet up.
We start off at the Parlour Bar, on Elmwood Avenue, at 7pm. Then it will be on to University Square, to watch Future Shock at the QFT, at 8.40pm.
Special guests will be in attendance.
Ryan Brown will be joining us, and has kindly offered 2 of his beautiful prints as part of a wonderfully unique competition.
Judge Dredd will also be there, dishing out justice, and cracking skulls.
Over 70 tickets have sold for the screening, so it should be a totally Zarjaz evening!
I'll be there. I'll also likely be driving so no drinking :|
M.
Good man Mikey. Looking forward to meeting you!
Might not make it to the Parlour beforehand...
F**k that was some Craic! Z
All down in the Parlour with Glenn Fairy and Ryan Brown getting some great insights and non stop laughs. Z
That was Glenn Fabry. Drink and predictive text.
Too late for excuses. Revealed, your true feelings are.
I brought his third art-book through a Kick-Starter. Not sure wether he was officially involved.
I have it beside me now, and it has this newer version of one of his most famous
Slaine covers.

The Friday evening format seems to suit people better. Glen is a top lad, pity he drinks Tennants. Z
A great night out with great people!
The next meet up for the B2DG is Friday 25th September, at 7pm.
We'll be meeting up at The Parlour Bar, and will hopefully have a couple of special guests.
Everyone is welcome!
Another great time was had last night.
Best bunch of people!
On average, the thatch seems to be in much better condition at nordy get-togethers when compared to the patchy coverage across the water. And I'd swear two of you are pretty enough to be girls.
That'd be Jack and Simons cherubic features. Z
Borag Thung, and what about ye Earthlets?!
This month's B2DG meet up will coincide with The Belfast Film and Comic Con, being held at The SSE Arena in Belfast, on Halloween!
Spoooooky!!!
After the con we will be going for a bite to eat at Pizza Hutt, followed by a few jars at Rockies Sports Bar.
This month we will be joined by our Enniskillen buddies, and hopefully a few special guests.
If you want to join us, you are more than welcome!
Keep an eye on the Facebook page for an exciting special promotion, happening very soon!
Splundig Vur Thrigg, like, so it is
Maybe there will be less bums on show this month...............maybe
Group meeting at 8 pm in Parlour Bar beside QUB Student Union. Glenn Fabry and Ryan Brown and others will be there. All welcome. Z
Craic good, Fabry is putting on a good accent: Windy (window). Z
A great turn out last night in the Parlour Bar for our monthly meeting. Squax from as far afield as Enniskillen were in attendance. We had a great discussion, full of amicable disagreements and micky taking.
Glenn Fabry and Ryan Brown held court over all matters artwise and even boughtl a round of drinks :o, so these stories of poor artists plying their thankless profession in damp, cold garricks ain't true. Lol
Well done to our newest Judge, Judge Archer who is pounding the pedways of Chichester Street today on her 'hot dog' run with Senior Judge McBride. Watch out perps, she'll be handing out mandatory encubements by the bagful.
Judge Russell will hopefuly post a few photos later on.
The next meeting will be last Friday in Feb, at the Parlour bar, beside QUB Student Union, and everyone is most welcome to attend. Z :D
Sounds like a great night!
I've seen the pictures. You lot oughta to be ashamed of yourselves
We all know how to have a good time!

Ok eldsters, juves and indeterminate/intermediaries: drop your synthi-chocs and grab your socks, it's time for the next meet of the good sked B2KADDG. March meeting is on the first of April (go figure) at North Meg One's top holstery the Parlour Bar from 8 till late. All welcome, just amble in and we'll be in the Library Area on the ground floor. Z :D
In the library, my god, you're nearly as bad as the Scottish lot... Hang on a second, they've still to meet up for a drink ;)
Sauchie's on it like a Scots man's bonnet!! Z
The library area is the fancy VIP bit of the bar, where the rest of the rabble in the bar look at you with awe!
S'right...Z
Glenns was on top form tonight. Here is a picture of him doing a portrait of Johnny Fisher.
Good to see Johnny leading you all astray!
Oooooh my drokking head is killing me. Z
Glenn was on top of his game artwise last night.....from what I can remember. Z
IT was a great night, I'll try and get photos up soon.
Glenn's plan of sketches for beer was a huge success. Here is one of me as a Murphyville Judge.
Now that's worth a pint.
Bloody hell I'd say. I'd get him a double for that!
Double!! Have you seen the price of drink these days.Z
Next meeting 29/04/16, Parlour Bar, 8pm. Just look for the oldest, ugliest dude in the Bar, that'll be me. Z
Keep the last Friday of the month free.
We have exciting news, for all you Belfastards, and Norn Iron Squaxx!
I might try and get to this one.
You are always welcome Paul.
Hopefully Messrs Brown and Fabry will also be free.
Didn't want to have to post on here again for various reasons. Suffice it to say that my participation in this meeting group along most (if not all) attenders is now at an end
We are in the process of setting up a new group and any forum members seeking info need only pm me for details.
I would urge that this thread which was my brainchild be ignored and in all honesty locked. Z
Understandable.
