And long may it mark a return. I for one have missed ya stuff quite a bit Mr Askham (which probably just means I'm  not looking in the right places I guess)

The series (both of them) have been discussed a little by those of us who lurk in New Comic Book Day Megathread Corner.

For me it was so like the telly show (of that time) that the love saves the day thing (in issue 1) was both fitting and infuriating in equal measures. Issue two sits besides me now so more soon...

(bet ya can't wait)

Ending are such tricky things but I thought that this lot did it pretty well overall, in different ways.

Dredd felt a little rushed and its a shame this story seemed to... well not so much drift as stampede from what I thought it would be in its stella first couple of parts. Still in and of itself a pretty exciting satisfying conclusions.

In contrast Brass Sun seemed a little leisurely at the end, almost as if self consious of the fact its not a 32 page comics elsewhere BUT it was still very enjoyable. It wrapped things up really well while leaving the ideas, threats and intrigue that this story has really opened up dangling and I'm really looking forward to the stories return and the final page was GREAT!

Aquila even in its conclusion couldn't resist the urge to introduce a big terrible beastie that was going to be the undoing of us all... oh its been cut down... still I enjoyed this part more than most of this much lauded story which hasn't worked so well for me.

Black Shuck concluded really fittingly, it was a solid well presented ending to a solid well presented thrill. Kinda a journeyman thrill, not going to blow you way, or open your mind but at the same time I'd be perfectly happy to see it back.

So amongst all these ending the standout for me was the Future Shock. I loved it and it caught out. From the off I had its 'shock' nailed, I knew where it was going and it didn't (my ending was of course much better ahem) but I really enjoyed a Future Shock that shocked ... well surprised me that so many of late haven't. Bloody love Nick Dyer too.

Great Prog and always nice when an end of the line Prog often seen as simply clearing the decks for the new launch Prog is so damned strong...

... mind next Prog should be a stonker.

Ah Billy Bragg live is a delight. Some friends who for whatever reason used to be my Billy Bragg gig partners used to throw their pants at him as at one gig many moons ago he complained he wasn't the sort of artist people throw their knickers at.

As you might image he found that an amusing distraction.

Heavens to murgatroyd you're not wrong there. 'The Year Punk Broke' was indeed a thing of wonder and like Cosh alas my video of said is long gone.

Its that video that taught me the Kiwi is indeed the King of all the Fruit ... though its so long since I've seen it I might even be miss remembering that!

It doesn't matter not a jot that I know exactly what you're talking about my mind still wonders why your discussing whether Steve Martin, Chevy Chase and Martin Short slapping their shoulders and hips before shouting 'Huh!' should be considered cannon... and to be honest I think its as much chance as the strip itself... if it matters.

As ever the comics market is baffling Snyder's Detective with Jock (and don't forget Francavilla) is brilliant, much better than his Batman run which sells for a lot more (I did very well off mine thank you very much) but sells for a lot less. Now of course the quality is subject BUT what can't be denied is his Batman run is far from rare print runs being well over 100, 000 per issue. His 'Tec run can't have been shifting more than 40,000... supply and demand and all that but it does confuse.

Well I'll wait to see as I've enjoyed much that Mike Carroll has done, but as others have said the announcement (of sorts) itself leaves me cold.

Was his Tour of Duty stuff in the Megazine then as I don't recall it?

More Men in Tights... than a a good serious Hood (Is the old Michael Praed stuff any good? I remember loving it back in the day) and the perfect example of why we shouldn't take the whole thing so seriously. I found it a bit hit and miss. A nonsense fluff romp which passed the time harmlessly enough but wasn't really for me, 'cos its not meant to be. Very good for what it was. Or to but it better...

QuoteOut a walk this afternoon I heard two young boys playing in the park. One shouted "I'm the Doctor and this is my spoon!"
This renders all arguments invalid.

No frank miller no Nolan trilogy.Dark knight returns is the reason I still buy comics 2000ad doesnt count 2000ad is not a comic it's an essential.

Though both of those play on what he's become from what he was. So it should reassure you that they'd not be there if his early work had not been so important.

I say gold (though Born Again is by far the best thing he did!)

Jack THE KING Kirby's Fourth World Omnibus vol. 1-4
I damn hope 4th world becomes a couple of movies one day. The perfect mix of 2001 and Star wars.
Some Lord of the Rings style big budget trilogy, done absolutely right would make Star Wars look like a Lego movie.  Opressed Earthlings, Thor-like heroes, a Darth Vader without the hope, a flawed protagonist, three completely different planets, the mystery of the Source, the chance of amazing special effects from Lightray's hair to the furnaces of Apokolips, amazing fight scenes with the weirdest array of villians.  Hell, you could even throw in Superman for a touch of marketing.

Boy, would it make a great film.

Yeah but would any of that make it as good as Kirby could make it look?

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Jack Kirby, as a writer forget his art (which of course ain't half bad) is one of comics geniuses. In fact he's my favourite writer the medium has ever known. Quite brilliant. And The Fourth World Saga is possibly his best work.

The very best comics.
