Film & TV / Samurai Jack Season 5
12 March, 2017, 06:54:07 PM
Jack's back! Huzzah! Ep1 out now.

https://youtu.be/VSrv_n4tw7w

https://youtu.be/nMIZD-JSf5k

Now riding the closest vehicle to a Lawmaster you'll see on the small screen.

My prediction:
This leads in a Samurai "Jane" style spin off/follow on.
Stan Sakai and Sergio Aragones top the International Comic Guest list this year

No strong 2000ad showing again this year, but Brendan McCarthy and Pete Milligan should give good talks.

Also the tickets are now Day Passes rather than to individual events so the weekend overall cost has gone down from £80+ the last time I went to £40 odd.

Other info here: https://www.comicartfestival.com/

Dubious about actually going this year (have already booked a hotel either way 'cos the good ones are like gold dust) but this piques my interest.

http://downthetubes.net/?p=29859

Especially as the great man will probably have to do a talk about his career at some point.

Maybe the Dredd rabble from 2013 can come and spoil the beautiful scenery again?

Help! / Cover to prog 312
31 July, 2014, 09:48:47 AM
Many moons ago (MANY MOONS) I'm pretty sure someone on here mentioned they'd got hold of the original cover art of Prog 312 - Slaying of Slade tombstone.

Does that person still frequent this forum or does anyone else know of whom I type and can point me in their direction?

I'm gonna be asking about its availability so fair play if you know that person wouldn't want someone hassling them about it, but at least PM so I know the score.

Cheers, Dunk!

Classifieds / Judge Minty charity haul for sale
04 April, 2014, 10:58:27 AM
Fellow boarders,
after consideration I've decided to sell off, for charity again, the Judge Minty haul I won at the Dredd screening raffle.

I'm not an ungrateful bastard, and this isn't a judgement (yeah, I went there) on Minty which is great, The Electric did it proud, more an opportunity to generate extra cash for Acorns whilst giving these items a better home – they'll just gather dust boxed up in my current rabbit hutch flat and I don't have the skill or time to do the Judge Minty figure justice (All the Judge puns)

So here's the whole package and believe me I was tempted to offer only certain items:

Box Framed Judge Minty picture

Ltd Edition Cast & Crew Twin BluRay/DVD Boxset & commemorative Programme.

Ltd Edition Metal judge Minty mini figurine set (contains Minty, Aguila, Minty Sign & Guila Munja)

Copy of the 2000ad Prog 147 (Jan 1980) Signed by Judge Minty creators John Wagner & Mike McMahon!!

So how do you get these items? Well it's not another raffle, just PM me an offer over £30, best amount gets the goods, with all monies going to Acorns (plus P&P 'cos I'm actually not a charity)

I'm at Lawgiver and Bristol Comic Con if folks are going and want the stuff presented in person to save on P&P.

Give a great prize a new home and help a great cause.

Great.

Help! / Comic art print and poster site?
14 November, 2013, 11:37:30 AM
Beloved Nephew wants some kinda comic based art print or poster for Xmas to prettify his flat.

Do folks know of a good reliable site for such things? Doesn't have to be 2000ad related.

Cheers in advance,

Help! / Forests in Comics or Comic Forests?
11 November, 2013, 04:05:33 PM
*assumes the position*

O Great and Noble Hivemind.

I'm looking for examples of woods or forests in comics that you think have been rendered particularly well.

Images, links or recommendations welcome.

Trying to get a middle ground between the chaos of a real wood and the reality of black ink on white paper without it being just a mess.

Cheers,

Dunk! of the Green.

Classifieds / Dead Man page for sale
05 November, 2013, 03:02:33 PM
A good friend (and now sadly ex-colleague) is selling this Dead Man page.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=331059786828&ssPageName=ADME:L:LCA:GB:1123

I think it's a cracking page, almost a splash, but don't have the monies at the moment (see ex-colleague as a hint at the reason)

Hope it gets some interest from you guys.

Off Topic / 2000ad most stolen.
15 May, 2013, 02:37:00 PM
2 weeks ago my local WHSmiths suddenly appeared to stop stocking 2000ad, leaving me bereft of my Wednesday prog - there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth let me tell you.

Mystery solved this week - turns out that 2000ad is one of the top stolen magazines for WHSmiths Leamington Spa (just behind Radio Times) and therefore must now reside behind the counter to be asked for by name.

Apparently there is still an avid fan base for the prog in Leamington Spa (seen as an affluent area) they're just too cheap to pay for it.

This happening anywhere else?

Books & Comics / Comic Heroes Issue 18

A teeny free Halo Jones badge!

Yeah, you read that right: A teeny free Halo Jones badge!

And a Rogue Trooper one too.

I know, right?

Oh and an interview with Mr Wagner about a certain Judge.

But mostly a teeny free Halo Jones badge!

It's not Hi-Ex, and for that fact we must weep, but if folks are looking for some comic action this weekend and live in the West Midlands (you can come from further away if you like) then be aware that this weekend is Memorabilia at the NEC.

http://www.memorabilia.co.uk/birmingham/

And there's more, they have added a comic con to the proceedings it appears. No idea what this entails but as the tickets the same price anyway no skin off the old nose to check it out.

Anyway to summarize: Not going to Hi-Ex? Boo-Hoo. Memorabilia (31st March- 1st April at the NEC) an option (more for those in the West Midlands)

Help! / Original 2000ad Art estimates
02 August, 2011, 08:53:25 AM
Prompted by a number of enquires into buying my Halo Jones pages, and a false, but dramatic, fire alert in my block, I've been wondering about the worth of my original art and whether it should be mentioned on my flat insurance.

Does anyone else do this?

If so: how do you go about getting an accurate estimation of a pages current value?

Any help gladly received.

Film & TV / POTC: On Stranger Tides
20 May, 2011, 10:05:34 AM
Went last night with high hopes having avoided any reviews.

What can i say? Watchable, but dull. Similar to the other sequels in being long, drawn-out with no real oomph! pushing the story on.

A visual feast as expected, but imagine being served up a huge, juicy, over-staked New York deli style sandwich, only to bite into it and discover it tastes of slightly stale white bread throughout, though you're now commited to slaving your way through it.

That said, if you were already planning on seeing it this weekend, do. It will pass the time.

Help! / Boxing 2000ad
11 May, 2011, 09:46:49 AM
Quick question:

How many copies of the original papery 2000ad can one get into those purpose built 2000ad/magazine boxes?

A friend of mine wants to re-box a huge trunk of old 2000ads this weekend and needs to estimate how many boxes that would take.

Cheers in advance.

Creative Common / Expand my skills base - Flash
12 March, 2011, 11:51:15 AM
I have to do the above to survive and want to move into using Flash for animations and hopefully eventually games.

There must to be folks on here who use Flash and I was wondering if they had any books about the subject they'd recommend?

Any help/guidance welcome.

After Effects next up.
